Ship building

I know that you can make ships in this game and as i am about to start my crafting profession i was curious, do you have to level a certian craft in order to build ships ( or houses for that matter ) or are they quests with in the game that allow you to do this?

You probably want to pick Artificing. This is the crafting profession that later branches out into Carpentry and Minerology.

Carpentry will be the main profession for building boats (among other wood things).

Minerology will be the main profession for building houses (and other stone stuff).

For both boats and houses you will likely need a pretty high level of crafting within your profession though. Of course, smaller boats and houses will be lower level though.

Nope, flying mounts can't fly over the water for long distances, and they can't carry as much stuff; you will still need your boat

Horses dont become useless after you get a flying mount, do they?  Hopefully they run faster or something like that, because I love horses

There all symbols of your prosperity and advancement in the game. They also will probably help with any roleplaying. Plus who doesn't want to go sailing along the coast or out in the ocean?

Well, actually the griffons run faster than the horses... so yes, there is no point in riding a horse anymore.

Crafters can begin getting quests for various housing and boat parts after level 20. Both will require items made by all three branches of crafting (blacksmithing, outfitting and artificers), although artificers will do the final combines I believe. Just an example, tailors will craft sails, leatherworkers the rigging, blacksmiths the metal fasteners for the wood, etc.

If memory serves, a development said in beta there are something like 119 variants of ships and to learn all of them, it will take near 150 different quests. I'm not certain how exactly that divides up between crafting professions.

Both ships and houses will require a ton of resources. I recall one minerologist remarking that it required 150 bricks for a house and 4 slabs of stone were needed per brick. Twenty chunks of stone make a slab, so you can do the math for the resources. Houses and ships will take a lot of effort in time, money and resources. Likely guild cooperation will aid in getting these done.

Even with the above, I'm looking forward to both. ;)

Owch... Very sad.    Can flying mounts land anywhere though?  Can they run through forests, ect?
