What makes you want to quit mmo's?

PhroznPhrozn Member UncommonPosts: 33

For me the reason why I want to quit mmo's would be the fact that most mmo's don't become enjoyable until the last lvl, or the last few lvls. It'd also be because theres a lack of thinking, its so twitch based now that you dont even think of what your doing.

You strap your sword on you swing it while hitting keys in a pattern. Or if your a mage so forth so forth.

I miss when games made you think, or atleast think a little more then '1 2 3 4 5 0 9 repeat' . I find it frustrating and annoying to hear the words 'freedom of creation' and 'gear requirements' im not talking level requirements I'm talking STR 35 bleh bleh bleh. But thats another thing all togeather

MMO's need to be made for vet's not just new people to the genre.

Well lets hear your opinions folks im sure im not the only one.

I normally get bored around level 30 after doing the same thing over and over again and thinking "hmm this is getting slower why would i carry on doing this?"

So mainly boredom of how repetitive they are.

If alot of my friends leave, or if an higly anticipated game comes out.

When the game tries to make me play or do aspects I don't want to (raiding for example).

Could you give an example of games that made you think?  Have you tried A Tale in the Desert?

The main reason I get leave a MMO is growing bored the repeativeness; the grind wears me down.

That's a good question, one that's hard for me to peg down precisely.  I would say probably two things.  One - when it stops being fun and becomes more like a chore.  And two - when I no longer feel like I'm immersed in an online world and become aware that I'm simply playing a game.

Ano, thats a good reason atleast i think so I mean I dont know how many times its bugged me to have to adventure just to craft, and so forth. that for some reason doesn't appeal to me, i mean its not a bad thing its there its not like they 'make' us do these things. Its just we seem to be very underhanded if we dont.

I have played that pretty good game, just in my opinion slow paced

And games that make ya think, try chess ;) Or try risk but of course those arent mmo's if you want a mmo example im sure i could give you one.

Usually if there is no pvp, and I have all the skills for my class (or the ones I want), I sorta get that "so what now?.." feeling and only play it for a couple more days.

Other reasons might be unbearable community (what's the point in playing an online game where you don't want to hang out with any of the players?), or if all my friends quit.

It's quite simple really .. we have seen the same thing Over and OVER and over time after time after again and again and again

same fing thing different place thats all. a sword is a sword no matter what color or how big it is.

i do not think it matters what Devs make anymore for us Old farts ... we have been there and done it.

take a look at the list on the Far left. yep <<<<<<<< that way from top (A) to bottom (Z) how many have you tried and left because they are the same in some way or another. (sigh) bored.

today is Sunday and i am off to the Shop/office to do something cause i am about done with games. they be nothing left to play that keeps me thinking long enough. other than laughing at the kiddies telling people to STFU. Later places to go and Real things to do.

probably about 80% of them... thats a sad thing aint it? lol

I left the last few MMO's because

    a) Gameplay shallow and repetitive

    and/or

    b) Too many social barriers: level/gear discrepancies segmenting player base

I quit mmos for a few months coz i just didnt get the same feeling i that i used to , so i tried some different mmos but never found that feeling again. I'm gonna try Vanguard to see if i get it there, if not there im just gonna wait and try all the new mmos coming out this year. I hope i get properly into one because there is nothing more fun than mmos imo, well maybe drugs but drugs are bad :(

I quit a game when I run out of new things to do.  In some games, it's that point where I start failing quests because I'm not high enough level (or have high enough skills, better equipment, etc.), but the only/best way to get that extra level/skills/equipment is to grind on mobs for hours on end.  I ended up quitting City of Heroes and Dark Age of Camelot long before hitting max-level for this reason.

Other games, it's because I get tired of the end game.  I did manage to hit 60 with my druid in WoW, but I soon grew tired of raiding and the battlegrounds.  And grinding faction held no interest at all for me.

On still other games, it's because the playstyle of the game isn't for me.  I played Lineage II and EQ2 trials, and ended up quitting and uninstalling after only a few hours of play.

Finally, others are just buggy and not very well implemented (for my tastes).  I put both D&D Online and Horizons in this category.

For me, the main reason I quit MMO's is either getting somewhere near the top, and feeling the game has nothing mroe to offer me, or I get the feeling, for example in WoW, that you have to spend an insane amouint of your time, and sacrafice "outside"  to even compete with the better players. I think that maybe games like that should be more skill based.
  • TorakTorak Member Posts: 4,905

Well I don't currently subscribe to any MMO's although I was a fanatical player for a pretty long time. I quit them and am having some trouble convincing myself to play one again. I think MMO's have awsome potental but for whatever reasons (we have all argued about that in circles) companies just can't seem to pull it all together IMHO.

I stop mainly because they are dull and unchallenging in a gameplay sence. None of them present any real challenge. Killing 10 rats, bats or elephants isn't a challenge, its busy work. Characters have no real choice or opportunity to be challenged on a RP / moral / ethics level. Choice is generally reserved for picking what generic quest reward to take.

Worlds are static and dead, players rarely have any impact on anything aside from getting to say "ding" every now and again...Far to many are clones of one another. Can we please get one more Fantasy based game with Elves and Dwarves? I don't think we have that covered yet. One side of me is saying to the new games..Vanguard, LotRs, Conan, Aion, Gods and Heroes, Chronicles of Spellwhatever, Dark Age of Heroes Ever Dragon Age...WTF cares, its all the same shit (I hope I'm wrong, but come on whats up with that? Isn't there anyone able to come up with anything new?)

    Levels....raids........kill task.....poor crafting mechanics.......time sinks...........content a retarded houseplant could do........no risk.......no real reward......no challenge. Such a shame.

The ONLY thing that makes MMO's worth playing at this point is the communities. Thats it. Love them or hate them, its just not the same without them all. So many other games are superior in gameplay then MMO's, some of them are starting to close that community gap. Its definately an interesting time for MMO's.

I'm optimistic that a few of these games are starting to "think outside the box" but its a slow process. For whatever reasons MMO's are unable to evolve as fast as other genres. The rest of the video game industry is thriving right now while MMO's have thrown themselves flat on their faces. In the meantime, nah, MMO's really aren't worth the time or money for the tedious dull gameplay they offer. Only if I have a few RL friends in it, would I ever bother with them again.

Well for me its the community, like if the game is full of mature players that dominate the immature population or vice versa. I need to have a good community when i play or else it will just be crap, like when i was playing Maplestory i just couldnt stand the 12 year olds running around yelling "n00bs" or "l33t".

I want to quit MMo's because of DDO, DandL, Everquest, Everquest 2, mXo, SWG, WoW, VG:SoH, new-UO....they all are similar in a way, they all are almost just like Everquest.  lets get something fresh here.  3rd gen ftw, i hope!

Yes, please give an example of an mmo that you enjoyed and that made you think.  In the end what made you leave?
  • joereed1joereed1 Member Posts: 140

With any game based around increasing your characters level, getting to the max level.

Some are just plain grindy and repetitive.

Developers really need to break out of the level grind mold for MMO's and think of another way to keep players playing. Players need a goal, but getting to the next level is an unimaginative and in the long run pointless goal.

  • ravenkravenk Member Posts: 3
The reason I quit a MMO is sometimes due to the content if I am doing the same thing over and over again and there is nothing new to keep me interested in it I drift away and will finally just close my account. Sometimes I will also quit if many of my friends start to leave and the enjoyment of the game has died for me. Largely it has to do with content how the developers make grinding fun and not a job to reach a certain goal.

Repetiveness makes me quit MMO's often. That was why I quit runescape at lv 79. I just didn't have the patience to gain that last attack level after gaining like 81 of them. And don't suggest leveling up in something else. It was the same story. And I beat most of the quests already. Runescape was just a boring game overall for veterans. It also had a crappy community.

Repetitiveness & Meaningless PVP (usually both).

I hate doing the same dungeons over and over.

I hate pvping the same people over and over without meaning.

More player freedom -> more dynamic gameplay = longer i play.

Unfortunately most MMORPG's these days are very linear and restrictive, therefore I find myself getting bored quicker and moving on.
