Oblivion character creating suggestions

I didn't know where to put this topic in since it's not an MMO so I guessed it would go into an off topic forum.

I just got Oblivion and I would like some suggestions on what Race, attributes, skills, and class I should choose. 75% of my combat should be melee. Give me a sword and a shield and some armor and I'll be set. I also would like some magic support. 15% of my combat should be magic, maybe some destruction spells when things get tight, or mysticism cause i'll be using soul trap a lot. Once in a blue moon I'd like to do some sneaking, and stealing, and you know like crimes and stuff but I won't be doing enough of that to put it as a major skill. I like to take my time and have fun and steer clear of the main quest early on.... You know maybe explore and do some alchemy. I was thinking dark elf would be up my alley but I wanted some suggestions from Oblivion veterans first. Thanks in advance guys.

When it comes to Elder Scrolls, it's more of what you want. They have premade classes that you can choose if it fits you. Here is my suggestion. A Kajiett (spelled it wrong, I know) battlemage. You got the sneak with the race and the class you will be able to go up in heavy armor (or light armor) and use magic and summons. You will also go up in spells to use feather spells so you can increase the maximum amount of items you can carry. You can also perfect your sneaking ability easily with the race just by sneaking everywhere you go or just in caves. Think of it as a stealth game and you will have no problem creeping all though a cave and out (or just running out)

The sign your born under is up to you. Also before you reach the outside of the sewers (when you see the long tunnel), save your game and then make another game save for the rest. You can save there and have that as a backup just in case you want to make a new character, experiment and vice versa.
