If it's like Final Fantasy, it will not do good. Need MORE originality.

Its just gonna be a polished up version of the current FF11, with new features, and possibly updated graphics.

Cool!  I loved FFXI, it's just too dated now.

I played FFXI for 2 years and if this is what the new MMO is going to be they better nip the gillsellers in bud so to speak.

Gillsellers is the only reason I quit FFXI, If it is a revamped FFXI I would buy it in a heartbeat if they kill off the money farmers.

i liked FF11 but the way you log into the game really ticked me off. Lets hope they don't do that stupid fecking viewer again or else i will have nothing to do with it. That is my biggest complaint about ff11 that it didn't start up after clicking the exe, you had to go though signing in to some stupid viewer then click the game and then click play and then sign in again then you were ACTUALLY in the game. 1-2 mins to get into the game is fecking nuts and stupid

Uh.. FFXI is one of the most successful MMOs to date.

It's the fact that it didn't sell like the offline FFs sell that are the root of the common misconception that it was a failure. Before WoW, 500,000 subscibers was like the target amount for an MMO to be considered very successful. Due to FFXI's unusually faithful player-base, they have maintained the 500,000 subscribers for nearly 5 years now.

Not only was it a success, it's actually a great MMO imo.

It's probably the most challenging MMO there is, and the job-change system goes with the MMO genre like bees to honey (or something).

PLEASE GOD PLEASE let them keep job changes for the new MMO, PLEASE!

I do not understand why all MMOs don't have this. It almost guarantees that your casual players will play longer to try out different jobs, and the hardcores will try to cap as many jobs as they can.

There is nothing that compares to the feeling of satisfaction of having a single character with such a wide variety of abilties and well... jobs.

Square Enix signs up with the Unreal Engine 3.  Might be related to their new MMORPG.

I wouldn't mind playing another FF MMO, but two things have to happen for me to buy. 1) get rid of RMT period! These botters ruined the economy so badly, it made your hard earned gil look like nothing. 2) get rid of the damn grind and make it more casual friendly! for god's sake! some of us have enjoyed and played FF games for a long time and I loved the idea of finally being involved in an FF world, but if I have to a) do a long grind with LITTLE to NO rewards for my efforts and b) need a party to do almost 80% of the cool story line content I will be shrugging off this game. Square Enix has to start realizing that a lot of their fans are growing up, have jobs and other real life activities to attend to. Believe me I wanted to continue playing FFXI, but because of these flaws I mentioned I had to stop. I can hardly call it "playing" when 3+ hours are spent sitting waiting for a group. Don't say "form a group" because that's an equally challenging task considering I could never find enough people to form a party.

Final Fantasy Xi in mid July dropped to 200k user , another drop following that puts them at 120k. The IGE christmas sell , killed off around 300k , within 6 months , and another 80k by Christmas. It wasnt until nearly 8 months after the sale that Square begin to even react to the flood of over 300 billion in gil and items in the market.

It was reported in Japan, that most accounts (I think they said 75%) come into contact with tainted gil or items. Shortly there after a unnamed linkshell , and bots begin to exploit  the AH. On the servers Rahum (spelling) and Levathian , prices rose in 3 months to 2000% , figures has high as 4000% reported on the auction house website that tracked the prices.

In 2006, Japanese papers put FFXI on the dead list , (roughly 3% of users are new , the only reason that people are able to party at all is because of rerolls or another job class.) On Christmas or there about Levathian reported the cost of the new armor, to cost around 1 billion to produce.

Square Enix party on May 13th plans to announce a new FF no one's heard of before.  My guess?  This new mmo they've managed to keep under wraps for 2 years, of course.

If you're referring to Squeenix, I've heard people refer to it as that.

As for this game though, you just made my day.  I've been waiting for Square to make a new MMO.  There were things that I liked about FFXI (mainly story aspects) but they can definitely improve upon it.  I've loved every Square game I've played haha.  Then again, I haven't played but like 5 haha.   But yeah...definitely stoked about this.

Well Square Enix or Square-Enix are both used interchangably since the merger.

They certaintly have at least 4-6 new IPs being generated ,with 3 FF games being  produced side by sideon the console and 1 on the portable console platform

I'm stoked to see a new FF MMO.  If its anything like FFXI, it will surely be a hit.  I think a lot of the people that said bad things about FFXI never really played it, simply because it wasn't PC exclusive, and there are some jackasses who really care about that for some reason.  Even though the 360 and ps3 support a keyboard, mouse, and voice chat, there will still be some asses that think the experience will be jeopordized.  Can't wait to see it!

On the ps3 too?  Hell yeah!  Why wouldn't you want it on a console that is even more graphically enabled than today's best PCs?

I don't think SONY will let them go to the 360 so easily.  Not to mention, they probably won't allow it to not be a part of the ps3 library, and Square has always been loyal to the Playstation brand.  Money makes the world go round, and SONY has buckets of it.

I'm just going to throw my two cents in and proclaim that the new mmo will NOT be based on FF, but on Secret of Mana. I will not say why, but we shall see if I am correct. For right now, I'm waiting for FFXIII and FFXIIIvs for PS3. A nice ploy, making two different versions of the same game, requiring both to get the whole story. I'll pass on the third version for mobile phones, though, as it won't affect the main story and I refuse to stare at a phone to play games. One of the things that upset me about the FFVII spin-off regarding the story leading up to FFVII was putting it on a damn phone instead of a console/PC where it belonged.
