Vanguard: Saga of Heroes recently posted a news update covering various concerns with the game just after launch.
Naming Policy Enforcement
In the near future Sigil will be evaluating all player names to make sure they are in accordance with the naming policy. Names that are not will need to be changed - we will post more information on this soon but in the mean time, please take a moment to go over the naming policy if you have not already.
Active Vanguard Subscription Now Required
As of 12:00pm PST on 2/2/2007 all players are required to have a valid retail game key to continue playing Vanguard. So if you have not yet picked up your copy, make sure to swing by your nearest store this weekend!
In the Works
Some of the top issues are aware of and working on currently:
European players are currently unable to properly claim their Collector's Edition benefits. We are aware of this and are working on it.
Players who abandon diplomacy quests, lose quests due to server crashes, or fail to accept a quest the first time it is offered may never be able to do the quest again. This is being worked on.
Sometimes, when going through certain areas, group members will "disappear". Their character is still there, but other players are unable to see them. This is being worked on.
There are still some bugs here and there with the social server, we are aware of these and working to fix them.
Improving client side performance is still a priority, and our efforts in this area will be ongoing.

Can you say, "Chuck Norris"?
These are issues that should have been worked out in beta BEFORE they went live.
For me personally, it's completely unacceptable.
I got in beta 5 like 30 days before release. I looked around for a few days and thought, there is no way this thing is ready for retail and it still isn't obviously but all the fanbois were saying oh just wait its beta, its only beta, Sigil will fix it all before release they haven't even come close to fixing all the issues.
Sigil deserves to flop for pushing this out when its so far from complete.

Its because they are just SOE but under the name Sigil as a cover, their buisness practices prove this.
I still don't get why this is even remotely acceptable in the MMORPG community, if Vanguard was a console game I don't they would have released early. /shrug
I will be impressed to see the name policy enforced. Seems like most games have them but don't enforce unless they gets alot of petitions about a name. I did say most and not all games. I have seen some games where I was always hearing someone logging in and /shout or /ooc "What happened to my name? It has been changed" which always gave me a good laugh.

It's not SOE's fault, they gave Sigil a 2nd chance. If they stuck with Microsoft they'd be forced for vista only and make a 360 version :P If they stuck on their own then they wouldn't be able to publish it to boxed and would have to release like over a year ago.
SOE gave them a chance and made the game better and gave them another year or so as a result.
THe game has to be released sometime and it's Sigils fault for developing a crap game.

The game is holding up amazingly and it's Sigils fault for developing the best MMORPG currently available. It's totally addicting in a way that I haven't seen since UO or EQ. They say you can't go home again but in this case they're lying. Vanguard is what MMORPG's should be. They can fix up the bugs as they see fit, I'm already hooked. See you on the Varking team pvp server.

Dude please
"Vanguard is what MMORPG's should be"
So you want all MMORPG's to be half finished and full of bugs?
Come on man.
I get the fact that you like it but do you really think they should be charging people to beta test it for them?
/shake head

Can you give me a list of the bugs you speak about? The only bug I've ran into is the disappearing one.
I had the choice to either wait another month for the bugs to be fixed or to buy the game now and get a head start. Yes i was in the closed beta and open beta, and i had severe problems playing the game at that time, due to a shit load of bugs. But even so, i decided to spend the money on the game and get a head start. And wow im glad i did! The servers have been stabalised and several bugs which had a major impact on the overall performance have been fixed for release, the game tbh is a lot smoother then in beta.
I was also disappointed with the way the beta went, i didnt really enjoy the game as much as i probaly should have, but after buying it and playing the updates man.. im totally addict to this game! Its actually the first game where ive decided to take it slow and do quests.
What i especially love about vanguard is your choice to do what you want. Tired of fighting? why not do some diplomat missions which are like mini card games. or what about crafting? i must say their crafting system is the most complex ive seen thus far and took abit of trial and error to understand it, but im finally getting the hang of it.
Atm im only seeing one bug and thats the disappearing one, but comeon, the game just came out, give it time and im sure all these bugs will be fixed.
So as a final note to all you flamers, i respect your opinion but keep in mind it is a game, and you arent forced to pay anything if you dont want to. Atm your flaming the game for not being free, i mean comon. Sure its had a rough start but damning the game to hell just cause theres a few bugs here and there is no reason to completly avoid this game. Also last time i was on half the servers were at "heavy" and "medium", so they must be doing something right.
-A very big VG fan
Every game has issues when they first launch. Some have more then others, but they all have problems. It is unrealistic to expect a game to be perfect when they "flip the switch" to live. I have noticed that in general the ones that have the most problems are the ones that are trying to accomplish alot of new things.
UO had alot of problems, but then again it was the first large scale mmorpg. Everquest had alot of problems at first too but it was the first popular 3d mmorpg and they had alot more people playing at launch then expected. On the flip side DaoC was smooth but then again they were able to learn from EQ's mistakes and it was mainly a similar game aside from he RvR.
Sometimes a game will have an almost perfect launch but some major problems crop up a little after launch. I will use WoW as an example of this. Their launch went off great, but then they had major problems with their latency. The latency would start out low, but it would constantly rise up until it was unexceptably high. It took Blizzard months to figure out what the problem was and it was a source of outrage on the message boards.
I personally lump Vanguard into the category of a game that is trying to achieve alot of new things. For one it has the biggest game world that I know of in any game and is totally seamless. You take that and add the fact that it has 1- real sailing ships 2-every point in the world that you can see is reachable(those mountains in the background are not just a pretty backdrop any more like other games ) 3- It has a diplomacy system 4-new npc behaviors like monsters that will actually crawl on the wall and cellings to get to you and you wind up with one very tricky game to program and troubleshoot.
Yes I know that some other games have a few of the things that I have just listed. But I have never seen a game until Vanguard that has tried to add them all to a game this big and graphically powerful.
I too wish that every game would launch perfectly, but I know that will not be the case. When I am highly interested in a game, I am willing to experience the little bumps in the road until they are worked out. As long as the developers use good communication with their player base and continue to address bugs quickly as they encounter them, I am happy. And so far the Vanguard dev team has been doing just that.
As far as my own personal bugs, I have not experienced any yet. My only gripe would be the engine performance so far. But then again I am running on the low end of specs, so I am not surprised at all. I will say this, I have noticed my fps has gotten better since launch. And the game was always playable on day 1 for me, so I am happy.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
It's unbelievable people are acutally saying 'There aren't that many bugs' when Sigil themselves have admitted:
European players are currently unable to properly claim their Collector's Edition benefits. We are aware of this and are working on it.
Players who abandon diplomacy quests, lose quests due to server crashes, or fail to accept a quest the first time it is offered may never be able to do the quest again. This is being worked on.
Sometimes, when going through certain areas, group members will "disappear". Their character is still there, but other players are unable to see them. This is being worked on.
And these are just some of the 'top issues they are working on'.
As bad as WoW's release was, as nightmarish the queues, I never once lost a quest. I never once 'disappeared'. For all of its flaws Blizzard had a solid product on release - it was the raid-or-die endgame, lack of PvP emphasis and balancing issues that are the game's main problem. But the game itself worked on release.
Stop making excuses for shoddy business practices and accepting them. You can make a difference. Cancel and tell Sigil and Sony you will return when the game is working. Or you can keep on paying and let Sony continue to reap the profits of producing bug-filled games.
IF you constantly give a dog a treat for biting you, it's going to keep on biting you. It seem there are plenty of gamers out there who are willing to let it happen /boggle.
I always like when people talk about the WoW launch. I played WoW and out of ALL the MMO's I've played it had the most bugs of any game I've played that have effected me personally and this includes vanguard.
In Vanguard I've seen 2 bugs since I've been playing since release.
In WoW..Dozens. including..
Falling through the world on several occations.
Glitched animations.
Mobs I couldn't attack yet where beating the crap out of me.
Mobs that just stood there and let me beat on them.
Getting stuck in objects in the world. (rocks, trees, etc.)
Broken quests.
My combat abilites not resetting.
NPCs being invisible.
These are just a few of the bugs I've personally seen and reported during my time in WoW.
The point is nothing is perfect. Anything made by humans will always have its issues but, in the end having fun is what matters. For me I am having alot of fun in Vanguard.
I was experiencing almost all of those bugs when open beta ended.
Every time I recalled to the queen i fell through the floor and was stuck under the building.
Mobs attacking from about 60 feet away and disappearing.
A lot of the quests were still broken both crafting and adventuring.
I have no delusions about any MMO having a perfect launch but Sigil knew the game was not ready and the launched it anyway.
I would never defend WOW so please don't misunderstand my reasoning for quoting you it was just that I was still experiencing those things when Vanguard beta ended and when I read your post I had to laugh and reply
