My feedback on SWG

Ok after trying again with different characters and all. Here is my conclusion as to the changes and how the game is now. This is in regards to the professions.

What I think is that it's fine that they fixed the professions so they work better such as entertainer. That was all most players wanted. It is NOT fine that they took away peoples choice so that we can not longer customize our professions. It is also NOT fine that they deleted Creature Handler, Tk and a few other professions all together. Then there is the way they have made it so anyone can just start out on the Jedi path now. No more prereqs. No more long runs to the village. Heck I doubt there is even an old man to pop up to pay them a visit. No more killing Sith. You know that is just to far away from the story line now and how it should be. For those reasons many of the vets are upset.

I thought the same thing after trying to hang with the game in the NGE for around  6-8 months.  I really would have liked a few things to be fixed in the game before the NGE (like the fact that armoured pants wore out waaay faster than any other armour pieces due to a problem with the decay formula).  I didn't want my professions removed from the game though, and I didn't want all of those quests I did to unlock force enhanced combat bonuses and eventually a jedi to be removed from the game either.  Some people don't realize it, but they deleted months worth of game-play content when they got rid of those quests.  I'm not talking about player progress here, which was also deleted; I'm talking about actual quests that players could go on and enjoy.  There was some really good stuff that got tossed out.

Oh hey btw Lai'ahna I have an update for you regarding the kind of "fluff" you enjoy in games, and how that relates to City of Heroes.  While you can now shop for tailored goods and power enhancements from NPC's, shopping for things crafted by other players is scheduled to be introduced in "Issue 9," which is due out sometime this spring.  If this is what you really like in MMO's you may want to check this one out after Issue 9 goes live.  Just a thought ^_^.

Also as a side-note, Cryptic (the company behind CoH) tends to test their new free expansions very well before they go live.  They're fairly polished.  In the last expansion, there was a problem with teleporting into a particular zone.  Cryptic corrected this within a couple weeks.  I say this because coming from SWG I learned to fear expansions and the like.  I've found that my experience with Cryptic is waaaay better than it was with SOE.  I've never lost anything through 2 free expansions.  I've just got new content and more polishing so far, and it's nice.  I still hear positive things from friends about other games too, so words like "expansion" or "upgrade" no longer strike terror in my heart lol.  I still want my mom when I hear the word "enhancements" though 0_o.

No more village... That is so sad! We had so much fun doing those quests. Made lots of friends there. I miss TK! I miss doc buffs! I miss getting new fun pets from CH friends! Mostly I miss the fun at the village.

Yes it have changed a lot. They have taken away most of it, that people liked.

I still don't understand why they took away for example TKM a CH? All over the server I saw people playing TKM (myself also) or CH. Just poff gone... it's not "Star Warsy"... wtf was that about? Still don't understand how someone can be so stupid... oh well.

And so far they have not done "much", well they have made some things better but most of it is combat stuff so you don't see it the same way. For example there is still nothing to do then pvp all day at same boring place with same boring people.

They have been looking at pvp for too long!

If they just forget about Jedi's crying and pvp people, then maybe they can fix this game. Bring some PvE and fun.

I also hope Lucas keep his fingers away from this game. He sucks!

Ya I really loved the village stuff.  I met a lot of really cool people there.  I enjoyed helping them out with their quests against the sith.  Phase 4 where the village came under attack was my favourite part.  I loved standing together with a huge group of players in various teams trying to repel the sith invaders.  I also liked how different jedi teachers had different quests for people with different professions.  The force ehancement of skills that we earned was also really cool.  I even liked the lead the sith commander mission when it wasn't bugged.  For a while there, the dude wouldn't follow you down hills, and that was a royal pain.  Get buddy to follow correctly though, and the quest was a real adventure.  Our guild took fledgling force users through that thing a bunch of times.  It was just great fun.  From looting the key thingy to lower the shield, to taking out the turrets, to getting through all the sith guards, then picking your way through dangerous terrain back to the village, while getting ambushed by sith--it was pretty involved :).

It's stuff like that I wish they had debugged and adjusted slightly.  Having some of the sith bases closer to the village would have made them playable and cut down on wait times for teams waiting to take their turn.  No need to delete everything, just fix it, and adjust it in light of constructive feedback.  Ah well, good memories still :)
