I was thinking about comeing back and playing UO i havent played it in years and want somthing to kick around with. is there like a free vet trail to see whats going on with it and see how i like it.
I'm definitely coming back. There will probably be a free trial with the new expansion...
Kinda scared I won't have any freakin' clue as to what to do now though... I haven't played since like 6 months after Rennesance (sp? too lazy to Google it).
There is a free 15 day trial. I think you can get it at fileplanet.com.
Yeah, I'm in the same boat as a lot of people. I played UO when it was just that...no expansions. I think I quit around the "dexmonkey patch""(see wtfman.com, good stuff) It's wierd to think I played this game when I was 15 years old. And now I'm pushing 23 and still want the addiction.
I'm thinking about coming back after KR comes out. So much as changed. I'm thinking it will take awhile to get in the "groove" again.
Weapons, armor, magic, PVP....... ALOT has changed.
I will be coming back as well. UO was my first online game and I think of it now and again. It will be nice to revisit some of the places I remember. I also quit before the shard split and after nearly 8 years it will be nice to kick around in the place of my RPG birth.

ArmySurplus makes no apologies if someone other than him has already posted his reply in part or otherwise. He cant be expected to read every single post on a thread and makes no promise to do so. If you posted a similar reply before him you undoubtedly stole his thoughts and used them without his written authorization. Please return to your post and edit it so that his post is the first to state whatever the hell he was thinking at the time. Thank you!
But If you got an extra $20 to spare I would highly suggest getting the 9th ann addition , It has all expansions up to the end of 2006 , less patching and downloading..
I will be buying a new box. Xanatos was born and died in a vast and rewarding world. He seen good and bad times and that can never truely be re-experienced. Those were some of the best times I have ever had in a game. I feel and it may just be me, but to truely give the "New version" of UO a decent shot I would have start from scratch.

so what are you guys going to do. start a new char or use your old ones??
I wish I knew how to get ahold of my old char's. That would be awesome. I cancelled my account long ago....
I was thinking about paying for the Advanced Char Template that UO offers. Just to give me a decent start. I really don't know which direction to go. I like playing mages mainly. But now you have necro and spellweaving and corresponding skills like SS; too many skills, not enough available points.
I miss having a house. It came in very handy for "training" purposes.
If I come back (big IF), it'l be a download of the client and new freebie acct.
I won't install from CD because I think I trashed them, may have one laying around though...
I won't be expecting anything, just the bombardment of trivial play UO is now and was when I lat left it. But developing characters is still fun under a skills system.
If all we get is 2 weeks, that'l be all I need to look around one last time...
No more Trivial MMO's, let's get serious "again". Make a world, not a game What I listen to
I too am a vet from back in the day looking to get back into it and with Kingdom Reborn coming up here soon now is the perfect time to get back into it. I say if we are all going to start it up again I say we all start new characters on the same shard...I suggest Chesapeake shard because it is still pretty full.....also does anyone know why no one chills at brit bank anymore??
I don't know why any of you would want to go back. I didn't quit nearly as long ago as some of you I did quit before Mondain's Legacy came out. Say 6 months before Mondain's Legacy came out.
But its just a travesty to give anymore money to Electronic Arts on this game. With all aplogies to the current producer in charge of UO whom I met a couple times at the UO Developers meetup in Redwood City and Los Angeles.
Right now anyone subscribed to UO is not getting any new content and is merely paying to get that free expansion to them. Its been over a year since Punkbuster was announced to come out and it never happened. The state of UO was broken due to the illegal programs allowed to run to create bots, the CSRs never did anything fast enough to remove the unattended botting that went on every day for months on end.
There was no sembalance of a economy in Ultima Online under many different Producers of Ultima Online. There was no remake of PvP under many Different Producers of Ultima Online.
Way to many flavor of the month templates without respect to old school templates. Example Thieves, or mace wielders were never given any benefit or use in any manner. The idea to make it less of an impact on your items is/was foolish.
I admit fully I dearly would love a new client. With updated graphics but I cannot respect the game for the way they are developing these new graphics.
I used to play this game several years ago. By far the best game I have ever played in my life. I know it has changed in more ways than i can imagine. EA took over and wanted to make money...plain and simple. If they(EA) were smart the would of updated the game in a good way. They could of continued to add without screwing everyone over. I mean think about it.....they could of continued to add land, monsters, houses(no cartoon $hit), SPELLS ect. Chaniging templates all the time isn't fun for anyone. It pisses people off and they leave the game. They could of updated the graphics without takeing away the feel of the game. I don't want to hear about KR being Diablo II graphics. Use the same idea, but make them BETTER than diablo II graphics. (and I'm not one of those people that play games because of the graphics...its all about the gameplay!)
I hear the economy of Uo is crap now. And it didn't have to be that way. When I used to play, I had a Fletcher/Lumberjack that I made plenty of money for my GM mage to survive on. It needs to be like that again.
I'll stop talking $hit because I don't even play the game anymore. But I am going to give it a try after KR comes out.
But, if you have played UO in the past, I would not recommend going back to it now. UO has gotten worse with every craptacular expansion after The Second Age in 1999.
Candyland in 2000, Half-ass 3d in 2001, Robots & Giant bugs in 2002, Uber Gear in 2003, Ninjas in 2004, and Sunglasses & Elves in 2005.
UO is an overflowing wastebasket of garbage expansions.
The whole current UO situation can be summed up in two images:
lol I better ask my dad what credit card he put it on 7-8 years ago. With all that has changed it'd probably be fun to start fresh anyway.
I had a lot of fun in PVP. But i had just as much fun PVM...probably more. I remember a place called Wind. Dragons and such. I could have fun in there all day long.

Good God!
Yeah I agree... no sence going back to that. Really sad what they've done to that game.

LOL..i laugh everytime I see that Comparison of UO in 1997 compared to 2006. lol! Sure you don't have to dress like that, but you won't get anywhere in the game if you don't.

So I have to look like a complete idiot to do anything in this game? I find that hard to believe.
Yes, many are Elves or Ninjas with uber gear in order to compete. For example, there are some items that are limited to Elves only.
UO has become a game of buying the latest expansions and junk along with changing your character skills every expansion in order to compete.
A full set of GrandMaster crafted plate armor and a GrandMaster crafted Katana are the type of things players throw on the ground as junk and nobody picks up, heck, nobody even crafts them anymore.
You need all the benefits, bribes and items given out to buy expansions and remain a subscriber in order to look like a fool and be effective in Ultima Online.
Ultima Online is all about buying the boxes - the EA business model disasterously applied to an MMOG.
Wrong Semp ! I returned after 5 yrs and have done quiet well. Been playing the past month and i'm loving it. Glad I returned. Sure things have changed but most MMORPGS nowadays have uber loot etc. Just part of the business.
PVP is tough but the UBER loot doesnt unbalance it too much. Your skills and tactics can still make a difference.

Nope, I'm right. In fact, in your own reply you go on to mention that uber gear is a part of UO now and then you give the excuse that so what everyone else is doing it in other MMOGs.
The uber loot completely imbalances the gameplay and destroys the integrity of the game. Just keep playing a few more months and you'll see. Or even better, develop your character until you have a great template with great gear and then try to play through the next expansion - all your time building your gear and character will go down the drain in favor of EA's business model of encouraging players to buy their next crappy expansion by dangling more uber gear carrots and skills in front of their playerbase.

Funny post, GungaDin.
Do you still have an active account in UO??
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
So your admitting to giving EA upwards of $12-13 a month. IT IS crazy.
If this is such a horrible game. Such an imbalanced game. Why do you still hand over the money each month?
You are constantly on here saying the same thing over, and over, and over, and over.........
Every post you make your crying about the temp changes. We get it. You had a good char, and EA changed $hit and proper fuc#ed you. This has happened to 100's of people. What EA did/does to this game is wrong.
If your going to be a "hard-core bitcher" then you need to quit paying them money. Plain and simple.
Again Sempiternal, we get it, they changed the templates, it screwed you over. WE GET IT.

I was extremely interested when the UO Reborn announcement was made. I was willing to overlook that EA, and now Mythic to boot, are pulling the strings. Fortunately Semp posted all the gory details. The gameplay that all the vets remember is dead (RIP). Shed a tear, get over it, and move on to something more worthy of your $.
