Something ive been wondering... Can u be a player on the ship and control a cannon/walk around the ship while another player controls it? If they have that I would def give it a shot. Anyone know?
Currently no. One player per ship, though there is hope of being able to 'invite' others into your captains cabin. A seperate instance that you can decorate, sorta like player housing.
Dev's have ( on the official site ) said they don't want dissconection issues to play havoc with a players ship during a battle, and players who log off as passengers, where would they later spawn. Also what if you want to goto 'isle of death, but your helmsman steers for the Island of too much rum, etc . So you control all aspects of your own ship.
Yar!

It's true; if only we'd just change our minds about this feature, our game would go from 'teh sux' to 'teh cool'. It's really the only feature that matters, as it turns out. All that tactical ship combat, swordfighting, player-run economy... it all pales in comparison to being able to stand around on the deck of your friend's ship while he shouts 'swab the poop deck'.

HAHAHAHA,
bad isildur bad dev lol.
Had no idea you guys came and read these forums to :P
Planetside might be good too for you, because it has some vechs that multiple people can be in. PotBS isnt a first person shooter though, so I dunno what you would do if you were a gunner on a ship in a role playing game? Choose a target and press 'fire' maybe. I just dont see that happening...

Yeah, if that's the real isildur then he's my new hero.
It is, and out of all the mmorpgs you'll find on this site, PotBS is the only one that has devs browsing non-official forums
Potbs definitely has very public devs! A fine example for the other devs of megacorps! Not to say other companies arent like that too! Simutronics is social too Although recently not nearly so much so.
not just being able to do those things but more along the lines of the ship being like a clan hall etc. and players could board other players ships to take them over. im a big fan of pvp and open pvp, would just like to see more than ships just shooting at eachother til one falls. more interaction between players while pvping. If someone that is on the ship has to go to another destination then they can with use of a smaller boat, or maybe a clan has more than 1 ship, maybe they have 3 or 4! just saying there are more ways to be creative. also, in the videos I kept seeing loading screen after loading screen, maybe the vids lie but too many = poop. other than that the game looks amazing. I'm just tired of seeing games fall short of being great. This is a game afterall, lets not limit the players fun.

They are just LAZY!(sorry), But They could add it, So when you are playing alone, You get to control the cannons(just like it is now), But also could have a crew too! I think this game would be WOW killer If done right, But not be able to have friends of in my ship? Blah!

So, let's get this straight, it won't be a WoW killer because you can't stand on your friends deck? Personally I'd rather have my friends helping to guard my cargo in their own ships, rather than sitting on my deck telling me how nice/cool/ugly/l33t my main sail is. It seems like such a novelty feature, I'd rather see time spent on something important.

Like tactics and skill?
Ofcourse have other player ships help defend etc, not saying take any of that away. Give the option to be in control of a cannon to other players that may be on the ship also.
it would've been sweet if you could invite player's to your ship than assign them job's ,Such as: Cannon blaster,That person that goes on top of the mast and looks for other ships or islands..etc...

Yeah.......that would be awesome. I wanna stand around on someone's ship too waiting for the order to hit the space bar. What were they thinking not including this? There must be millions of people just itching to throw their money away so they can virtually stand around following orders. Oh wait, no theres not.
That is weak sauce man. I cant believe the Free to play pirates of the carribean online is going to allow multiple players per ship and this game that has been in development since THE DAWN OF TIME cant figure out how to do it doesnt instill me with much hope for this game. Im thinking just put sid meiers pirates as an onlime multiplayer and you basically have POTBS.
Pretty sad. I was really looking forward to this title. Guess i will play the free disney one instead.

Yeah it is sooo weak yeah.. umm.. looking at the quality of both games you can see that this 1 feature makes potbs a steaming pile of crap. Forget everything else they are doing and how much more detailed and realistic this game is potco will be better with thier horrible graphics and buggy non tested gameplay.
I never cease to be amazed at some peoples idiotic opinions. How about you go read potb´s dev logs and see what the game is instead of just guessing crap and posting garbage.. However that would be contrary to most peoples posting habits.
Hope you do play the free disney one. Good luck with it!
... this game that has been in development since THE DAWN OF TIME cant figure out how to do it...
Oh, we've figured out how to do it. We just think it's a terrible idea, is all.
Terrible idea? Man I never would have guessed that being able to have my friends on my own ship would be a bad idea. It's just so exciting to have NPCS on your ship rather than real people. I also heard that the only place you can really go on land are towns, Is this true?
Considering the majority of MMOG players like to solo, at least part of the time, it would be stupid to design a game where soloers are at a disadvantage because the mechanics require multiple players to operate a single ship, which would tax a soloers abilities while easing those of a group controlled ship's. Soloers are always at a disadvantage anyways compared to group/guild cooperating players.

I can see that it would become a problem in the line of getting gear or doing quests and stuff because you would need other players. So why not have the PvP part of the game be with players? Everyone knows it would be amazing to have you and your friends or guild members fight along side with you as you try and take out other players. It really makes me confused when I hear a dev of this game say "That's a terrible idea". It seems a lot of people want this kind of feature to be in the game.

Do they though? A handful of mmorpg.com posters?
As has been pointed out countless times in similar threads, if you weren't the captain it would get very dull, very quick. Standing there tapping space/mouse1 every now and then to fire a cannon, or standing there not even being able to tap space/mouse1 every now and then becuase the enemy is on the other side of your ship or you drew the 'lookout straw'...well, it just doesn't sound like fun to me.
