I have been comming here for years to read up on MMOs released and upcomming. I could get past the fact that WoW was never even on the list of top 10 MMOs, after all I played it forawhile and didnt realy like so I figured well maybe other ppl feel the same way. But recent reviews and false hype of games is getting out of control.
This site is to me a place to come and read what shape games are in to see if they are worth thier salt. May I say this site DID do a great job of exposing DandL. However recent stuff like the vangaurd release being touted as the best MMO to ever be released and EvE being so high on the list for so long have frankly opened my eyes to what this sites motivations realy are. It seems complacent to sit by and watch as SOE and sigil employes come here and give false hype and false reviews. Waaaaaaay to many perfect 10s. I mean come on a perfect 10 for a game like vangaurd? Same thing happens at Gamstop.com , and Gamespot.com. Just numerous fanboys and employies of game companys walking in and giving perfect 10s along with reviews that do not even mention bugs or unfinished aspects of the game. They obviously do this to offset the people giving it 1s but common, the game isnt finished period. People are sick of being sold unfinished games and then expected to pay monthly for them, especialy when the game was "pre-viewed" by this site and others saying it was the next "big" MMO. We want the TRUTH! Not a half baked anology and false hyping of games. Vangaurd does not even have its own forums lol! You know they knew they would get lambasted on official forums for the state of the game at release, thier answer ah wth lets just not have forums, Laughable.
The same thing could be said about other games. EvE, Guildwars, Roma Victor (the fan boys for this game make me giggle) and so on.
Oh and I know the vangaurd fanboys are gonna jump this thread like a $2 hooker but before they let me say Im suuuure thier right eh? Best community ever, no bugs and if I saw any its because of my POS comp and all the systems are in game and working PERFECT.
Well sorry to say but I hope that people wise up soon to the falsity of this site and the others mentioned.
I as an MMO player for MANY years now am fedup with being led to buy games that are the same garbage that has been released in the past, unfinished and expected to pay for beta. Not anymore, this site gets a 1 for realism from me.

So, because MMORPG.com attracts people that don't think like you do, its has no credibility whatsoever?
Those ratings are comepletely fair, one user, one vote. If it were not for the fact that a significant portion of the people on here do not like WOW, it would get a higher rating.
No, it is not an accurate representation of the average gamers viewpoint, no it is not a good scale to judge a game by, at least on its own. However, the exact same thing can be said of every single poll taken on any subject anywhere.

if you want to be told that WoW is the best game ever and totally original, then go to the WoW forums.
the reason i like this site is because people disagree with me, i like X they like Y and they tell me about it and perhaps i might like to try Y? if i wanted to listen only to people who like X then i would go to that games forums... providing that they arent full of flamers at least....

Truth is I haven't read a review or game interview forever. They will always be skewwed, after all who wants to piss a future advertiser off? I know when I was in the imagine media era thats exactly what they did.
I come and have been comming to mmorpg.com for the forums.
I take what I read from the users as true to how they feel. I then take it all with a grain of salt and end up fueling my addiction err hobbey with downloading/buying the game if the pro's out weigh the negatives.
The good part is there's lots of free demos too. They're handing out buddy keys and free trials like candy so you can make up your own mind on these games.

I agree this community for the most part sucks ass. Theres maybe 10 smart people on here. Guess what.. you're not one of them. You are part of the reason it sucks and WoW has 8 million subscribers. You're part of the problem not the solution.

The staff does a great job reporting MMO's
You have to realise, we all live life from different persectives, our experiences and our biology dictates our feelings, our likes and dislikes. As a result there are those who love Vanguard and those who dislike it. Same goes for EVE.
IMO your right in saying Vanguard needs more work, and that MMORPG.com has failed to ask the questions on everyones minds at critical moments (NGE). But on the whole this site provides a free service, allowing mmo gamers to convene and communicate in a non-biased enviroment. For that you cant really complain.

I visit it because I enjoy the forums..... and the reviews, and other info about MMO's..... and I take everything with a grain of salt....

i can't remember who in this thread said it....
but MMORPG.com REPORTS, yes reports and in doing so gives us more information on any and all MMORPG's in ONE place then any other site... hence, why it kicks ass.
a GREAT source for information, news, screenshots, etc.
their reviews have been biased and half complete in the past... i don't know if it's due to not wanting to "bite the hand that feeds" as someone put it, or like EVERYONE that posts on MMORPG.com's forums, they have their opinions on every game and every topic and like we do, enjoy to make their viewpoint known
EvE and Vanguard benefits from vocal minorities which are active. See, if 0,05% of WoW players are active forum-wise, I would be surprised. EvE and Vanguard players are active forum-wise at a rating that is prolly around 20%, these persons aren't representative of anything but themselves; and these who are active forum-wise are usually the worst of the lot.
EVEngelists are long-term players which crave for extremely long gameplays that resolves around harsh PvP. Vanbois are long-term players which crave for extremely tedious gameplays that ends in a massive amount of socialisation to earn the final loot.
Both are tiny minorities. I like the EVEngelists because I know they are happy and overall, they are nice players. Yeah, they will pwns me once or twice, but when they will understand me, they will usually ignore me or even helps me a lot; fight each other around me or find silly rules among themselves. Vanbois are not even trash, cause trash was once useful. These are NUBs who have a LOT of time and think that socialisation is skills that should shaft all non-socialisers...they are, social gankers. See, EVEngelists may be gankers, but they are happy, when they pwns me, I know they are having a epeen orgasm and when they realised I doesn't get fun at all, they will try to accomodate me in a way or another, most of them. Vanbois are social gankers, I never see them really happy, they just try to crush everyone else, non-stop.
See, vocal minorities are not representatives...and they are not good for the "community", sure the Vanbois invest themselves a lot, but they ruin the game for everyone else when they are let's loose...even for other Vanbois. The devs remove the unlimited levels I was craving for, and they have a good reason to remove it I guess, and I come to accept this...however, for some reason, they replace it with something worser. Raiding isn't related to grouping in anyway.
Most casuals don't bother to talk, when they have free time, they go play and enjoy right away. Most hardcores don't bother to talk either, they rather master something. Most of the peoples who bother to talk are socialisers. Listening to socialisers is silly, since socialisers will adapt and socialised no matter what, you have to focus and make real players happy; not the peoples who are ready to adapt to anything anyway. The few hardcores who bother to talk, they must sound silly and harm their cause more than help it...just like I am doing most of the time about raid-free servers been a must, best groupers deserve to be groupers...hardcores aren't social talkers after all...so hard to get a point been understand, especially when the socialisers are been jerks about this issue.

I'm pretty vocal about games that I consider inferior, and if you doubt that, you obviously haven't been to the Vanguard forums, but I have to remain objective. I can't damn everyone for buying a game that I KNOW is incomplete, but I can express my disapproval of the game. The Vanguard preview generated plenty of feedback, but it was a preview of the early levels of the game, NOT the entire game. I wrote a more in-depth one, and even posted it on that thread.
Keep in mind, however, if we just go in and shoot straight for the jugular, who's going to give us the time of day? While I would have loved to sit down with Smedley and asked him "How does it feel to know you and your team destroyed one of the most infamous franchises in history?" with SWG and the NGE, you just can't do that. Why? They're being gracious enough to give us a moment of their time, and if push too hard, they'll walk right out on you.
That's the trick with this business. You have to be able to read and write between the lines. I can't say a game flat-out sucks, but I can suggest some serious flaws and problems with it, which might suggest it's not a quality product. I can't bash a developer/company, but I can make subtle mentions of their business tactics and previous endeavors. It all comes down to a matter of perception and careful wording. I am one of the most critical reviewers out there, but I've learned to be a bit more positive. Anyone can sit there and bash a game to death; not everyone can find a light in a dark place.

You just have to take things with a grain of salt.
I mean it's obvious that company employees are going to come to sites like this to hype their games. That's a given.
And then there are the irrational fans who treat their pet game like a religion. Singing it's praises, never mentioning it's faults, and rising up in rightous wrath to attack anyone who blasphemes against it. Cough,...Copeland...cough.
Then you have cynical, skeptical bastards like me who are so jaded with mmorpgs that we mostly just bitch about the things we don't like while we wait for some group of developers to break out of the rut these games have fallen into.
And you might as well learn to ignore the user ratings completely. They are meaningless except as an exercise in manipulating a rating system. Aside from individuals, groups, and company employees giving artificially high or low ratings to games....I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this site takes money to "adjust" the ratings if money is offered. I couldn't prove it and I wouldn't try because I really don't care. I just assume that it is done and ignore the ratings.
So, you know, just don't take anything too seriously here and it's good place to kill some time.

Me: Please leave me alone while I am PvE-farming; oh Uber one.
EVEngelist: I am the roxor...pwns u! ROFL

EVENGELIST: ...feint an attack and see me panic but then turn and ignore me, attacking whoever else is around.

I'm just happy I don't have to wait in 2-3 hour queues to login, like I did at one particular MMO's release, then only to have the server go down.
This is basicly the same with me. I come here mainly for the forums and like to hear others veiws on a game. I rarly look at the top ten list. When I do though i personaly think its pretty acurate. Anyways, I like debates(not flaming) about certain subject. It helps me figure out what makes a good game. so far ive learned things like-people hate grind and game devs generaly dont listen to gamers and make a grind fest.

i think that this and other MMO related sites are going to shit cuz of the MMOs that are bringing EVERYBODY to them now,from 5-60 year olds. So ALL the immature punks that thinks its the coolest thing ever to act like your brain hasn't developed yet are drawn here. I would much rather go back in time and stop ALL these Casual MMOS from ever being thought of. I have always thought that Casual MMOs was the biggest mistake to happen to the MMO genre.
