Subscription fee? price?

If it is on a console, ti probably wouldn't have a fee, because that would kill it, but i heard somewhere it would be $10 a month? What is up?

Ofcause there will be an fee for the xbox if theres one for the PC version, or ells it woulde just be directly underming the pc users, we would be paying for your fun, and why would it kill the game more on a xbox than a pc???

Even if it were free for console, you need to realize 360 users has to pay to play online aswell.

but the cost goes for all online games. but im sure it will have its own subscription fee for 360 users. i believe phantasy star was like that on the 360.

So PC users pays cable + game fee + pc upgrades (ram, vid whtever)

xbox users pay cable + xbox live gold + game fee

Only difference is that PC is so versatile that the pc version may have requirements. so some pc users may have to invest a bit more to get the medium graphics where 360 users can play it on high right out of the box.

Well PC users also have to have aither xp or vista installed, and they have to have vista to injoy the games max graphics, and vista aint cheep (niteher is xp but its cheeper than vista).

Besides i seriously doubt that microsoft will share the money they make on xboxlive with the other gaming companies. lets face it microsoft isent the biggest socialist.. Remember Microsoft dosent proffit per console, (they sell them at an loss, to be competitive) they profit for the right to make games to it, and by xbox live fees...

Because console games with seperate subscriptions quickly die, because no one wants to pay extra after already paying for live.

Actually this isn't true at all.  FFXI you have to Pay to play, Phantasy Star Universe was pay to play as well.  Both of them did very well.  If you buy AoC on the console it'll be pay to play as well.

So you would think it would be fair that pc users pay a 15$ sub per month to Funcom, and Xbox users dont? what you pay ells (xbox live) dont matter! if pc users also are paying for a website and some Shared network, that shouldent exclude them from paying funcom. that would be like saying to the government, sorry i cant pay my taxes because i just bought one hell of a big BMW..

what would MMO devs do with players who have time to play only every saturday wich is 4 days per month?

We would play the game but monthly fee for 4 days is simply ripoff from my-case-perspective...

foocoure of company perspective u need servers and no lag and stuff... but sorry that is not good enough for me that is (older player with full time job)

make some kind of More expensive game and free 5-10 days play per month or sth... or just count me and my kin out.

No McGregor, I think you're missing the point and may be in the minority.  The subscription fee is a flat fee for access.  I undertand where you're coming from, suggesting that pc players and console players may have different demographics but some things remain the same.

    1. a 15 dollar subscription is still equivalent to a movie and popcorn (if you pay just for yourself.)  It's not about the max time you can play but the BREAKEVEN point for the subscription fee.  2 hours versus 30 days...think about it...
    2. there's still a minimum cost to supporting the game and creating new content that doesn't come out via official expansion.
    3. Disparity in subscription fees for the same game product will spread far more ill will than a few people who opt out of not playing the game due to a subscription fee or who are upset that they don't play it enough to justify it (which again is only two hours/month.)
    4. In this particular case, the game is rated M so it's being marketd to adults, i.e. people who likely will be pre-occupied 40 hours/week regardless of console or pc use.  Saying console gamers will only have 4 days to play but pc players will have more time doesn't make sense.
    5. Although admittedly this is a sweeping statement, consider price sensitivity :  Sure, PC players invest in their machines but games are generally cheaper and there are less of them.  Console gamers may pay a bit less for their systems but games are typically a bit pricier and there are a lot more in the library.  Although consoles don't usually have the benefit of backwards compatibility, we're talking about new game purchases.  My point is, rather than buy a new console game every month for 60 dollars, you buy it once and then SAVE 45 per month for a few months because of the subscription, assuming you enjoy the game.
    6. It's a hobby! The reality is you have to pay a bit to enjoy it.

I don't know about you guys.. But $15 for even a day of subscription seems valid to me...

Think about it.. Every time you leave the house to do something it's going to cost you about $15 dollars...

Going out to eat: $10-$18 (+ decent tip of $5-$10 dollars.)
    Fast food: $5-$10
    Movie: $7-$20 (depending on concessions)
Shopping: $0-$500 (depending on what you buy)
Bowling: $8-$20 (More if you have a bite to eat while you're there)
Ice/Roller Skating: $5-$20 (Depending on if you have your own Skates.
    Put put Golf: $5-$15
    Amusement park: $12-$40

So simply take a look at the alternatives.. Hell, my roomates and I actually play MMORPGs as an excuse to save money... And you're complaining that it costs too much?

Unless you live in a very warm outdoorsy area, there's not much that you can do for free in this world. And even driving to Tennis/Basketball courts or Baseball/football fields costs money in gas.

I easily spend $15 dollars a day on entertainment on average... Unless I'm just sitting at home doing absolutely nothing. So $15 dollars a month isn't all too bad. Working full time is only 35-45 hours. Unless you are working overtime. And 8 Hours of work + 8 hours of sleep= 8 hours of entertainment time per day. Though for me it's more like 6 hours of sleep and 6 hours of work, with 13 hours of entertainment per day, lol.

    Ok fair enough.

But, games are sort of entertainment and are fun. Specially multiplayer games. If u compare MMORPGS (with mothly fee) with all other games... they all represent same sort of fun... i can have the same sort of fun in any other game (MP) i.e. GW, RPGs with MP, FPSs... and have the same passing time, same fun or can u say i.e. WoW is more fun than other games? i say no. I played beta for 1 month and its the same feeling for any other game i choose to play... and still if u buy the game you can play it only for month than pay to play (other games if u buy them u can choose when to play and how long)

i know mmorpgs are addictive to many players (wich is bad from social-life-perspective btw. ) so i understand what u are defending.

This is not a car that you buy and if u want to drive u need monthly gas (tho kapitalists wants to make us think that : )

I am from EU and money is not a problem...

Ok and its my oppinion only, i cant say for all....and i think  Age of connan, lotr or warhammer would do much better if there were no monthly fee

nevermind i know there are other games

Thats b/c those are games you are wanting to pay, and are to cheap to pay to play. You made a comment about regular non mmorpg games, where you can play anytime anyday and not have to worry about paying to play, what you seem to forget is that onces you reach the end of the game... game over you win. MMorpgs is an ever going, nonstop world. So you cant compare apples to oranges, and you cant compare mmorpgs to nonMMorpgs.

Njd is correct.. MMORPGs are never intended to ever be beaten or finished. You can play them forever and always have something to do. A good MMORPG will always have you coming back for more... The difference between a MMORPG and a Non MMO is that you can play with hundreds/thousands of other players in one consistantly evlovling gameworld. All of your achievements are remembered, and they are a bit addictive.

I'm not a guy that likes to sink all too much time into them, but I will never argue that they are too expensive.

$15(US) a month is approximately 50cents a day, and there are other payment options which in fact work out to be cheaper by the month also.

So look at it this way, the most you are going to pay for playing a single MMO is 50cents a day. That's hardly bank-breaking.

do you guys know whether there are life member-ship fees? I heard some games have this option where if  you pay like 199$ you can play free for life. It'll be good if AoC has that kind of option. Given of course the game is good enough to last 2-3 years.

So far, only LOTRO has that option.

As of right now, payment options other than the standard monthly fee have not yet been discussed.
