Though your specs are low for this game, I would tell everyone not to be so up in arms about what your system is like. A lot of the performance issues are server/Sigil side. For instance my rig: Core 2 Duo e6600 @ 2.4ghz / 2gig PC 6400 (800mhz) DDR2 ram / nForce 680i mobo / 3.0g/s SATA hdd / BFG nVidia GeForce 7950gt 512 DDR3 Doesn't get magnificent performance for what it has on it. I average just under 30fps overall... Now, I haven't tweaked or overclocked anything yet, but I should still run this game VERY well. But I still get a ton of stutter even on balanced. I really wonder about people who say they get constant 70fps. Anyway, all that to say a lot of the issues are server side. Even Sigil/SOE said they are trying to improve performance.
Your problem is that your duo core. Hardly any game is setup to work w/duo core, hence, your performance issues. Those w/them, generally have the lowest fps while those w/single core have the least amount of issues.
Im willing to work with this. I know there is a way to use one core. I will try that and see what happens.
That isn't the problem. Most games don't support two cores, but you don't have to have duo core support to use both cores. It would help if the game was built with dual core support, but it wouldn't hinder the 2 cores if it wasn't. It's not the same as SLI graphics cards which are more reliant on drivers that support SLI for the game.
Besides, I have the same 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo overclocked, and even with it overclocked it's not much of a performance increase because the processor isn't the problem. With 2 GB of ram and a good processor, the limit and hindrance is always the video card.
"Dude, why are you spamming the Vanguard forums w/BS spam about poor graphics and low fps? You contradict yourself in every post, "game runs fine for me, but horrible performance." You even posted that the game runs fine for you at 35fps so how is it that you get more fps than Gamespy? What's your seceret?!? "
I hardly contradict myself. There's a big difference between poor performance and someone owning a high-end system. Could it have also occured to you that I have multiple computers? One that is high-end that can play Vanguard with 35 FPS (but it's high-end, so it SHOULD do 60 FPS) and another computer that is med-end that can barely even play Vanguard? Just because I can play the game at 35 FPS doesn't mean I contradict myself in saying it has poor performance. Any game that can't be run at 60 FPS on a system that cost thousands of dollars is poor performance. Also the fact that I can run Oblivion, BF2142, LOTR, all SMOOTHLY (I get 60-100 FPS in BF2142 on max settings, and very high on Oblivion with max settings as well) It's hardly a contradiction.
Poor comparisons. Those games that you've listed are built around single player aspect and minimal player aspect. You can not compare a game designed to fill the role of one person or 64 persons to that of one designed for thousands.

I have tried limiting mine to one core but really havent seen much difference. It is still not the same as running w/just one core. There just isn't enough support for duo core systems which is why I'm considering going back to single core until programs catch up w/technology. My single core computer runs fine off an old ATi 9800 while the duo-core Nvidia 7800GT still gets choppy response in different MMOs.
What are you talking about? BF2142 and LOTR are both online games. LOTR is a MMO and BF2142 has up to 64 players.
The only graphical drain on having more players is the character models, which aren't that draining. The only thing harmful with a multitude of players in the same area is latency issues, but that has nothing to do with graphical drain on your system. That's their system, not yours.
One player reported getting high FPS (40-50) on SLI 7800. There's no way they got 40-50 FPS on one 7800. Do you guys even read the tech support forums? I played through the beta and after release and I read tons of posts on people's system specs and their resulted low FPS. Unless Vanguard is filled with bugs that prevent some people from getting higher FPS, then a lot of people are lying or exagerating.
Your a fake account to spread negative views about the game. You say that you played throught beta so why did you post this?
In the past two days you've gone from how bad you hate the game, to how much you love the game, to how long you've played the game to how much you'd like to try the game....your a fraud and a contradiction. All a person has to do is a search of you posts and see that your a fake.
Gamespy ran SLI geforce 6800's and couldn't even get past 5 FPS with their normal resolution. That's pathetic. Vanguard truly does have craptastic performance.
If you use the search function you will see that there are several threads with recommendations already.
I would suggest you to get at least an ati x1950pro-512 (take the x1950xt-512 if you got the bucks), this seems to be the best bang for the bucks at the moment. If you are concerned about image quality and prefer Nvidia, don't take anything less than a 8800 series. The Nvidias prior to the 8800 do not support enabling HDR lightening together with anti-aliasing (VG will support FSAA very soon, should already be here according to some dev's post 2 weeks ago, so it can land ingame any day now).
The Nvidia 8800 is the best card; anything lower than this ATI is better due to the nvidia's lack of AA-HDR support.
After the gfx card add 1 Gb ram, VG needs 2Gb.
I am myself playing on a core2duo, 2Gb ram and ATI x1900xt-512, at all settings maxed out with 16x anisotropic. My FPS is between 20 and 40 ; most of the time about 24 FPS. The game is smooth as silk with no hitches, I don't need more FPS than this.
If I disable the anisotropic filtering the FPS is between 30 and 50, at max settings.
Regarding dual core support, the game definitely uses both of my cores. Furthermore, if you look at the Vanguard beta forums you will see that the people having the most performance problems are the people with single cores. This was coming up many times during beta.

Of course, if the game is running and you have two cores that it is using them both. It's just that they are not working properly since the game is not configured to run off them properly. Hence the taks manager>running program>go to process>set affinity and uncheck either CPU 1 or CPU 0 so that only one core is running.
Abolith, you claim I'm a contradiction and then go against proven facts about Dual Cores being used when playing Vanguard.
You obviously don't know what you are talking about. To clear things up...
1) Dual Core technology doesn't require the software to use both cores. Programs use both cores, regardless of software utilization.
2) Writing code for dual-core support OPTIMIZES dual cores. It does not allow both to be used, but optimizes both for efficiency. I repeat, Without dual-core support, both cores are still used.
3) I talk about the negative of Vanguard to tell others about it and to speak as a human being because that's what conversation is for, to speak your mind.
4) I have played the game since beta and after release.
5) I want to try the game more because my opinion wasn't final.
6) The bugs and unfinished parts of the game, plus its poor performance and general disappointing nature makes it crappy.
7) Just because it's disappointing from what it was SUPPOSE to be doesn't make it a bad game. You can still enjoy a game despite its flaws, but without being in self-denial about the flaws.
8) Compared to other MMO's, it MIGHT be pretty good, despite its flaws.
I hold a realistic view of Vanguard. I can understand why people find it fun, and I can understand why people don't. I see its flaws, but I also see how you can get past its flaws. I played the game a lot, but my opinion is still in the grey area. I have mixed feelings of the game.
If I'm a contradiction, it's because I hold a realistic view about a game that could be fun, but is hindered by flaws, but its possible to ignore those flaws, but I realize that even without the flaws the game might not be good enough. It suppose to get better in the higher levels, which I never achieved.
Human beings ARE contradictions, and there's nothing wrong with holding a contradictory opinion of disliking a game for its flaws, yet liking it for its success. I do not contradict myself in that my views oppose each other, but I contradict myself in that I like and dislike the game. It's actually not a contradiction unless you don't understand it, which you obviously don't.
Even if I loved Vanguard and played it 24/7, I still wouldn't mindlessly defend it, being in denial of its flaws, being labeled a "vanboi" in my vain attempts to attack those whose opinions differ from mine. You should learn tolerance for those whose opinions are negative against something you like. It happens. Even if their opinion is wrong, it doesn't mean you should attack others in defense of a video game.

I have just tried what you said 1 minute ago to see how it goes.
When I set the affinity to only 1 core I lose 5 to 10 FPS, sometimes even more. With 1 core sometimes it suddenly starts to hitch a lot and it can drop as low as 3 FPS (I can now understand why so many people can be so frustrated on these forums). Heh, it's the first time I have seen some red FPS
With the affinity set to both cores I don't see this problem, the FPS never drops below 20.
