How Long Have You Been Playing MMORPGs?

Hello I'm interested to know how long this community has been playing MMORPGs for, post about your past experiences in MMORPGs and what you have seen and done (eg. Launch of WoW or UO)

Any stories of past experiences would be appreciated such as stories about kinds of people you have met.

I myself am still quite new to MMORPGs having only been playing them for 3 years, I have no experienced many P2P but I have tried out most of the F2P games.

Well my 1st MMORPG was UO sometime shortly after launch.  Great times.  As for my 1st Online RPG though, I used to play a text based game that actually had a fighters arena that you could fight in which consisted of a 2d square with 2 dots in it.  You could gain weapons and armor and money from fighting in it...I don't remember the name but it was pretty popular and I played it on my friend's dad's 386 over like a 1200 baud modem on a BBC.

My first MMORPG was a 14 day trial of Star Wars Galaxies from MMORPG.com in 2004. Since then I started to learn more about mmorpg's and to this day I'd say I'm going on about 4 years.

I beta'd UO, back when they sent us 4 coasters and we had backpacks on our avatars.

It's been down hill since the ole days of my 486... Now I'm one of those jaded mmo'ers who can't stick to anything to long.

I remember my first MMORPG was Mu Online, on of my friends from WC3 reccommended it to me and soon I was addicted to them and sort of stopped playing WC3 . Mu was kind of fun for a while then the grind sets in and it does get a bit boring.

started off with a BBS based MUD (can't remember the name) around 1989 or 90.  Graduated from there to Battletech MUDs in the 90s (anyone remember 3025?).  I used to run MUSHclient with 3 or 4 windows open at any one time (zMUD sux! ).  Those ASCII games were the best way to teach speed typing.  Guess they were also quite a bit more fun, because I didn't go graphical until UO around 99 or 2000. It was all downhill from there..

Oh craziest person i've met in an online game was a chick that worked at a strip club (she played Btech MUDs).  She showed me some of the advertising posters she was in...   (yes, i know she was a chick because we used to talk over a very early cracked VoIP program).

UO beginning in 12/97 played for3 years solid, then quit only to come back for another year os so...

Played other MMO's as well, but not many

Really no game has (for me) compared to what UO was.

Another may come along eventually, maybe Darkfall will... who knows?

No more Trivial MMO's, let's get serious "again". Make a world, not a game

I've been playing for about 3 years.  I started in September 2003 playing SWG with some college friends of mine.  What got me hooked was that for a good session, with Teamspeak VoIP, it didn't matter that we were split across three states and two time zones.  It was like our weekend LAN party days in college again.

I finally quit SWG a couple of months after the NGE.  Played WoW for a couple of months, then EVE Online.  Decided that the family budget couldn't afford the expendatures, so I quit in April 2006, but one of my brothers finally convinced me to come back to WoW, so I re-upped for three months starting last week.

The more I play WoW, the more I want to play EVE Online again.

I've been a MMO player since January fo 2005. But I like to preface that by saying I've been a tabletop RPG gamer (D&D and such) since 1980....

My conversion is due entirely to my iMac dying on me aroudn XMas of '04, after which I replaced it with a PC....at which time i discovered the joy of an OS which was well-supported with games (no more Diablo and Starcraft, woo hoo!).

Note: I still play Diablo and Starcraft for fun....sooooo go figure.

    Current MMOs: Rift, GW2, Defiance
