Hmm since darkfall is not out yet, and we have only read about the features....id say Darkfall is about 100 millions times better then WoW.

Seriously, if you put the 2 games next to eachother and list the features, WoW has nothing to show.

Yes in WoW you can grind xp, or items so you can....hmm...have to make a new character to try a new preofession...

That's like comparing an R rated movie to a G rated.

The purpose of playing wow seems to be centered around obtaining items. Either through points in instanced group vs group arenas or instanced pve drops. If that is what you want to do wow is your game.

Darkfall is about banding together with people you can trust to watch your back and trying to make a name and a home for yourselves. You need a place to bind your soul and sooner or later the starter towns wont be good enough. If you want to bind in a player owned town you will either have to make alliances and promise to help defend it, or take it by force and then defend it from others. There are no restrictions on who you can kill or who can kill you. And when someone dies all the items they had with them are right there on the corpse for the picking.

It is a very different game than wow. Which is better depends on who you are

    WoW =

    Darkfall =

And that of course is just my opinion

Finnally someone whos not spouting nonsense. mhorham is right  depends on what you want out of the game......but still

open PVP, full loot, and  aiming spells. Only a true WoW fan would keep playing after DarkFall comes out.

WoW is just a less linear diablo with fewer good drops.

How can you effectively compare two different games, one of which is still in development?

    WoW = casual PvE

    Darkfall = hardcore PvP

WoW is better because you can actually play it.  Wait till Darkfall is playable before you compare games.

The "PvP" feature may scare some people, but i think the full "PvP" will make DF stand out so hard. Not only just combat/battle but also the whole social part. The ability to bargen and "fast talk" that rerally does matter. Thats also "PvP" in Darkfall.

The ability to get what you want by manipulating others...and it will make a change in the DF world.

Exampla: You can fool a whole army to attack/not attack and target, big impact on the world. And you can pull it of, or you become hated and hunted for the rest of your playing days ...

    Thats gameplay

OK you did not just say WoW is a CASUAL game... you have to be on like 8 hour raids to get good items, it's like a part time job for christ sakes!

But yes they are on totally different sides... DFO is PvP WoW is PvE you cant really compare them

  • DuraheLLDuraheLL Member Posts: 2,951
Well it's quite hard to compare two things that aren't really possible to compare at the moment, since one of the games isn't even released (if ever, and when it's released we get to play Duke Nukem Forever beta with the game!).

Thus I'm in for whatever the devs of Darkfall are promising. If they get it straight it's gonna be the most involving PvP game so far, even since UO days.

you cant play WOW,  WOW can only play with you... i trusted blizzard before seeing what was wow. Balance doesnt mean a staff will make the same damage as the the damage of a sword. Ofcourse in strategicgames like starraft this kind of balance is accaptable but in a mmorpg? lots of items doing the same shit thing. everybody uses the same skill tree becouse others doesnt fit balance!!! u can only eat what wow cooks for you. No freedom.

They killed my MAGE, my being MAGE... they mademy mage a puppy! i hate them. :(

ahah! this game sounds so awesome. i hope you can have stealth skills, you know sneak around an enemy city.

the only thing that turns me off, is the first person view. i dont think i could get used to that.

Same here. I hope they do it like Guild Wars where you can switch between first- and third-person views. That should make more RPG players comfortable, right?

I went to the DFO site just now, and under the gameplay FAQs, they answer "What camera view is used in Darkfall?" with "More on this soon", but in the description here in MMORPG.com seems to stand firm with the 1st person view argument. Are they considering 3rd-person view after all? Do I sound desperately hopeful? :D

  • ptsakirisptsakiris Member Posts: 25
From what it's said first person view when in battle. 3rd all the other time.

Also 1st person is the only logical option when in fight. It's FPS style fight and on 3rd person you may even miss a lot or hit your mates and kills them. And they will not like this.... This also has no character targeting (aka DAOC etc) and  no floating names.

Another plus on this game is because of any targeting system, you don't know who's the guy you see down the road on a town. It could be your mate, or your enemy you swear vengeance to kill.

8 hours? WoW's raids don't take longer then max 2 hours. yea, WoW raids doesnt take more than 2-3 hours anymore, and you can choose between doing the whole instance the same day, or take one boss each day if you are to busy. Blizzard did change alot of their pve environment and yea its very casual right now.

however the pvp in darkfall sounds really nice :D i just hope that i wont get killed and loose all my items everytime, kind of like the annoying tibia where you lose lvls, skills and gear if you are unlucky xD

From what I have read on this game it will be very true hardcore pvp like AC's Darktide and old UO.   You can be killed anywhere anytime by anyone and have your loot taken.    Those features have never proven to be major market successes yet but will definitely be welcome to any players that want the ultimate challenge in ffa pvp type play.   With a sandbox type of world the game can evolve in a lot of different directions depending on where the players themselvs want to take it.

I would give Darkfall the nod on potential alone because its a game that I would love to play.

WoW i think will have greater numbers almost always.  Blizzard is just a household name to the gaming community and has alot undr their belt.

But when it comes down to the loyal, darkfall will be like old school AC-DT.  I think this game will have a damn good number of people playing for along time, it'll be one fo those games you have to take a break from due to frustration but like a mediocre relationship, you'll be coming back with flowers and apologies and getting balls deep into the action once again.

    When it comes to features:

Darkfall owns.  It has raids, cool looking items, and glory to shoot for.

where as WoW has an endless grind for specific skills and items that you need and just has raids to certain areas for certain things.

If you ask me WoW couldve been a far superior game if they stuck to the original Warcraft ideal (and if they went twitch combat) but since the original blizzard members left they didnt stand a chance.  Not to mention Darkfall is pretty damn unique when it comes to the gameplay and ideals they ahve, where as WoW just stole the majority from DAOC (if you dont see it, play them both for research purposes).

Like you noted.... Darkfall will cater directly to the hardcore pvp niche...which won't play well here in the Western world, might draw say 250K ppl tops... but I suspect the Asian market will be all over this one....

I expect any players that played and enjoyed old UO, AC's or AC'2 Darktide or any other FFA pvp game.   And of course this will spill over to the asian markets.   WoW has brought such an influx of new players to this genre that Darkfall may actually surprise some people on its sucess if it is a sold polished game.    There are alot of WoW PVP players that may even flock to this game based on the hardcore nature of the game compared to WoW.   I am still amazed that WoW has not launched a true FFA pvp server yet.   Seems like such a simple thing for them to launch a couple FFA PVP servers to retain their own customers against any potential new games that may try to steal them away.

for those of you who are asking about the camera view in darkfall, ptsakiris is right; the rumors are saying that you change from 3rd person to 1st person when you battle. but, i now argue against that statement because i've never seen someone switching like that in any of the vids.

In the end I hope DF would win this debate, but since WoW is already established as a great MMORPG I don't think you can compare DF to it at this point.  I'm not a WoW fanbois by any means, I just give respect where respect is due in the industry.  I do feel, like many of you, that DF will be amazing, and even better that WoW.
