    1) Install windows Vista advisor, it'll tell you if your computer can run windows Vista and more importantly if it can run the Aero GUI or not. If it doesen't hold up to Aero, you're going to be in deep demand of serious gfx upgrades.

IF your computer meets the Aero specs, then it's more iffy. I've posted a question about anyone running this piece of <insert your comfort level with Vanguard here> and their performance index in Windows Vista.

Vista has this VERY nice feature that gives you a performance number ( i.e. "4.9")  for your computer.  So instead of asking how much of this and that you need to run a game, you can simply ask "What's the minimum performance index required to run this game"

I'm guessing it's going to be up in the high 7 to run this game smoothly. on my 4.5 laptop, it sure as hell does NOT run smoothly at all.

    AMD 3500+

2 gb memory (interleaved at 333 mhz)

    x1900gt  256 mb

    1280x1024 fullscreen

    win2k

    = 30-60 frames/sec

Average is 30 fps. never drops below 25. No matter if there are 20 players around or not.

Using tweaked settings it looks like this

    AMD 64 3200

    2 gig cheapo ram

    nvidia 6800LE (with 128 ram)

running in 1280 * 1024 and getting average of around 30fps. (slightly less if I go into windowed mode)

I'm astonished but happy, having had some terrible fps just before end of beta

    AMD FX-55 (around $100)

    2GB 3200 RAM (around ($200)

    Geforce 7800GS AGP (around $200)

XFI ? Sound Card (around $100)

    320GB SATA 7200.01RPM HD (around $100)

    19" Monitor max resolution 1280x1024 (around $200)

With my old geforce 6800 I ran the game on 1024x768 with balanced settings(3/5) With my 7800GS I run it on 1280x1024 with highest quality(5/5) in the wilderness and balanced in town or other laggy areas, which is the highest my 19" monitor will support. I'm sure if I upgraded to PCI-Express I would get even more perforance, but with this monitor i'm pretty much set.

You could play the game on a cheap computer with low settings, but it would look like runescape lol. It just depends on how much graphics mean to you. Also, look into the tweaks, they might help a slower computer run smoother.

    Good Luck

-EDIT- I get around 15-20FPS in laggy areas like towns and 30-50 in the wilderness ect. If im going to be doing business in town I can turn the settings down real fast and when i'm sightseeing in the wilds I crank it up. It's very easy to change the settings back and fourth.

    AMD 3000xp, 1GB DDR400, Sapphire ATI x1950 Pro 512MB

Running everything on max at 1280x1024 with 16xAF,

Average 20 fps, hits 14 at lowest in busy areas, 25-30 when out of towns.

I'm running VG on a Dell XPS 600. It includes:

Intel Pentium 3.0 Ghz Dual Core Processor

    2 GB Ram

    160 GB HD @ 7200 RPM

Nvidia Geforce 6800 with 256 MB Video RAM

    DSL connection

I get anywhere from 15-20 FPS in towns and around 20-35 outside of towns. Indoors, and in dungeons, I get around 45 FPS. I run the game on High Quality settings. I hope this helps.......

    AMD 3500+ (Winchester Core)

2 GB running at 266 mhz currently (don't ask)

    Leadtek 6800GT 256MB PCIe

    1280x1024

20-30 FPS (INI Tweak Disabled shaders, no apparent visual difference)

    Game runs great.

My laptop runs it only at lowest end graphics, so ill just post my gaming comp.. A few years old but still goling pretty strong :)

    AMD Athlon 64 CPU 3700+ 2.2 ghz

    1024 RAM

    GeForce 7800 GT

I easily run at high settings, tried highest and was able to crank out 20 FPS in a very low populated place, but that didnt last long :)

If you do some of the tweaks, and remove some of the things you dont like yourself (I removed the nice texture on the rocks, which improved performance dramatically in some areas), youll be fine with a medium system.

People are still stuck at the beta feeling.

    I have a AMD X2 4400,

    2 x 7900GTX graphics cards in SLi

    1.5gb Corsair PC4200 Memory

    XP Pro

And it runs at 30fps in the wilderness on balanced and 10-15fps at best in crowded areas.

    Athlon 64 3700+

    Nvidia 6800 GT - 256 ram (pci-e)

    Asus nforce4 MB

    SATA HDs

Sound Blaster Live (oldie but a goodie)

On board NIC - cable modem

Running on balanced at 1080x1024. I didn't do any of the .ini tweaks but AA is off (from the control panel) and I have things like the shadows low and the vol clouds off. Usually get FPS in the 20s consistantly unless there are a ton of other toons around but it's still very playable. I'd get a new video card now but I can't see the point until the DX10 cards come down in price.

  • ArclanArclan Member UncommonPosts: 1,550

I upgraded earlier than usual and spent more than usual, due to Vanguard.

Dual Core Intel, 2.4ghz overclocked to 3.4 ghz

    Nvidia 880GTX (made by EVGA)

2gb corsair dominator (high speed) ram.

    EVGA 680i motherboard

    1920 x 1200 res.

On high, I rock 60 FPS in wilderness and 30fps in cities.  On Balanced I rock 100fps wilderness and 45fps in cities.   yes it roolz.   There is the occasional 5 fps spots when you first enter a city and the abundant detail (boxes, tables, rocks, etc) are first loaded.

Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon.
In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit

    AMD 64 X2 4200+, 2 gigs of DDR2 800 ram, 2 nVidia eVGA 7600GT 256MB video cards running in SLI.

I get around 58-60 FPS on balanced (with some options turned up) in the Vulmane area.  In the largest city I have been to I was getting around 45-50 FPS.   If I move my settings up to highest quality I get around 25-35 FPS.

IMO it runs very nicely and I don't notice any lag causing me problems in the game.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

XP specific partition, driver specific partition, standard build 2600 w/SP2.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For comparion sakes, I test anywhere between 13,500 and 14,500, depending on statistical ann's and temps.

Rainbow Six: Vegas (Pure UE3.0): Runs pretty much maxed with only shadows turned to medium, max FPS.

Oblivion: Run at high Detail, Max FPS

FEAR: All options turned on to max, getting around 60-90

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Vanguard:

Run at  High Quality, does not recognize the FX2, does not recognize the Quadcore, does not recognize the SLi without an altered profile.

Getting anywhere between 1-75 FPS out of towns outdoors, 1-45 in towns, 1-55 in doors.

Obviously since theres no specific FPS Test for the game itself you can't get any more specific then that, which is just plain silly if you ask me. What can be said is that the FPS are extremely unstable and over the last 2 days stutering and thrashing has gotten progressively worse. But that's very subjective and not really tested.

Anyways, hopefully that helps some folk.

Thats strange because i have similar to you but with an pci-e x850 xt pe and a 3.6ghz p4 and it runs crap, lucky if I can get 20 fps out of town on balanced. Thats on 1900 x 1200 resolution tho.

But, the game is very buggy. Don't expect to avoid crashing, clipping, lag, etc etc etc No matter how high-end you go. Here's an example from lastnight... I crashed out to the desktop. When I logged back on I was ROLLED BACK 2 HOURS!!!! Damn near quit the game, but fortunately after a few minutes it kicked me to a reloading screen and I was reset to the point I had crashed. So, those are the types of bugs you will experience.

plays: kind of choppy and shitty, says I have decent frame rate at times, so I imagine it's more of a only having 1 gig of memory thing, then it is a video card thing.  I gave up on playing because it was pretty crappy, if bestbuy was as cheap as newegg.com though I probably would have impulse bought a video card and more memory last friday night.

Running it on 1024x768 on balance and get 15-29 out of towns, dips to about 5-10 in town. Must need more ram or soemthing. My performance is going to probably stop me from buying the game. (playing on buddy key)

Wow, me and my old computer feel so insignificant...

    Asus P4B mobo, 1Gb SD133 Ram, P4 2.4 Mhz CPU, ATI x1650xt(512 Mb) AGP.

The video card is new as my 128Mb ATI 9500 Pro ran the game at about 2-4 FPS

I generally run it at 1024x768 High Performance and get about 8-12 FPS in towns, 15-25 FPS outside, and 30-35 FPS indoors. I can run as high as 1280x1024 Balanced but I lose around 3-5 FPS overall. The game will start to lag significantly if more than 3-4 players are in close proximity and will freeze for several seconds at times when crossing chunk boundaries. Not great performance but generally playable.

I'll be replacing my computer in 1-2 months anyway so this is very livable for now.

I'd rather have beauty and deal with pretty good FPS (in my book), it's not choppy or like a slide show I enjoy it and dont have any eye strain.
