LMFAO that is too funny. When microsoft had some ties with VG peeps kept saying that VG is gonn abe on 360. Now that SOE has ties your saying its gonna be on the PS3?? That is the way people think i guess huh
Would you mind enlightening us to your source? The game is 20+ Gigs, I doubt it'll be making a console appearance...
The PS3 has Blu-Ray which can hold:
A single-layer disc can hold 25GB.
A dual-layer disc can hold 50GB.
To ensure that the Blu-ray Disc format is easily extendable (future-proof) it also includes support for multi-layer discs, which should allow the storage capacity to be increased to 100GB-200GB (25GB per layer) in the future simply by adding more layers to the discs.
Vanguard wouldn't be a problem. Plus the PS3 has a HD for patches.
"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." Robert E. Howard, The Tower of the Elephant (1933)
20+ Gigs - a drop in the ocean for blu-ray. But I doubt a PS3 has the grunt to actually run it. Besides which its not like you can just recompile it - Porting Vanguard would be a big job. Especially as you need to get it pretty much bug free before releasing a game to console.
My main point was that pulling from a Disc and pulling from a HD are 2 different things...
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
Theres no way Vanguard would work on PS3. A PS3 has a measly 512 mb of RAM plus a PS3 gamepad would be to clunky to navigate the Vanguard interface. No hotkeys or anything.

PS3 doesn't have as much overhead as a PC though so it might work with 512mb ram, plus I am sure there would be things they could do in game to make it use less ram on a PS3. And they could easily redesign the interface for use with a console gamepad. FFXI is a MMO and is a PC/PS2 game.
I don't think it will go on a PS3 but the possibility is that it could.
The PS3 has a streaming engine. If they wanted to, it could toally run on 512 MB. In the case of a streaming engine though, you'd have to change your thought process on acceptable programming. When you stream media, you don't need alot of memory, but you do need to be able to swap data in and out extremely fast (this is where the 28Gbps bandwidth is a tremendous advantage over the PC and 360's 10.8Gbps) You'd have to have a SPE dedicated to texture management though. Think of it this way. If your walking around a world, you could offload the work of loading chunks to an SPE or another core. You cross a chunk border and in the background it starts streaming content for a chunk out of your visible range. On normal PCs this slows things down because most of them still have single cores and must split the work and still be able to process AI and your sharing a chunk of your memory bandwidth with the rest of the PC operations.
I still don't see it coming to the PS3, but it's possible for any console (albiet harder and would require some massive resource management.)

Well, some people at SWG forums have been saying for years Galaxies is coming to PS3, so I'm thinking we'll see VG on PS3 right after that
