Don't listen to people saying your rig isn't good enough. During the last Dev chat, they said that they're working on optimizing the game and it should be playable by anyone with a $150 video card in the next six months to a year. If you're not happy with the current performance, take a break and check back in six months or so. It might (hopefully will) be a totally different game performance wise.
I do hate to point this out, but in another 6 months to a year there will be numerous new MMORPG releases to catch the eye. If Sigil doesn't grab a player base now, they very well may lose them forever.
Yes, the so called "2nd coming MMOs". They will no doubt have far more market appeal because they are almost all franchise based and carebear oriented. I think what people need to start understanding here is that Vanguard was never intended for that audience and never will be. There are plenty of people playing Vanguard and it will do well in it's niche market of 250,000 subs. Thats what they were aiming for and Im sure thats what they'll get, give or take a few.
To many of you think that this game is in a race with WoW for MMO supremacy. WoW is popular because it is accessible and easy. Vanguard isn't and it is turning a lot of the E-peen crowd off because they cant race through it and brag to everyone that they are the best on the server (personally, I dont want them around). It turns off some casual gamers because it requires too much of a time investment. It's going to do fine within the parameters that Sigil set forth for it.
I don't think most of the so called "E-peen" crowd (I'm getting old enough that I had to look that one up) has even considered playing this game assuming they have even heard of it. The people I think who are getting turned off are mostly ones who did want to play a game with depth but got turned off by the many problems it has right now or they have lost confidence in the companies involved or were disappointed with what VANGUARD has turned out to be. The fans won't want to hear this, but VANGUARD is NOT the final word on challenging MMO gameplay. Unfortunately, we may not see one for a long time. But I trust my gut feeling that Sigil missed the mark, at least for now. In a year or two, they may have a masterpiece on their hands although the way the development has gone the last couple years I doubt it. Industry leading experience with EQ, over five years of planning and development, $30 million, more than 100 employees, backing from Microsoft and then Sony, and this is the best that Sigil can do? No flame bait intended, but something smacks of failure somewhere along the way. Forget about competition with WOW or any other major MMO on the horizon. VANGUARD is going to need all the help it can get just to pay off its development costs and stay profitable.

You see, what you fail to realise is that there is a moderately sized group of people who DONT like the current crop of carebear MMOs that permiate the market presently. Hmmm.... how do I put this.....
What you fail to realize is that Vanguard is not in a race against WOW, it is in a race for return on investment. Sigil is not one of the big corporate players in the MMORPG, or even the gaming, industry. Sigil does not have deep pockets. They rely on venture capital to finance the game, and venture capital is looking at return on investment.
This is not a game developed solely for a certain style of gamers, this is a game devloped for profit. And the venture capital fund management has much more say in the developement and the course of the game than you, the customer does.

Yes, they obviously want to make money! If they really wanted to rake it in though, I'm sure they would have picked a franchise like Turbine and Funcom have done and make it easy and accessible like WoW. That's where the money after all. They are banking on attracting a large protion of a certain crowd to make their money.
The game has many flaws right now, it is by no means perfect and I will never contend that it is. I'm having a good time playing it and I feel that it has the depth to keep me around for quite a while. I can deal with the bugs as long as they are fixed at a reasonable pace. Find something you enjoy playing and have fun!

You haven't noticed the changes to move this game more mainstream? Amazing....
Like decreasing XP gain, making the crafting very hard after lvl 15 etc etc etc. I could go on and on but Im off to play. Find a game you like and have fun, seriously
It will never turn into the type of game you want, move on!

This is rabid fan boi-ism for saying, "Noob, this game is not for everyone, go back to WOW".
But cool, head back into your fantasy world, that this game was made especially for you, and let me talk about the real world of venture capital, investors, creditors, and return on investment. If Vanguard does not hit the projected return on investment, the creditors call SOE, and ask "how much?". If the price is right, SOE and the creditors cut the deal, call the loans, Sigil goes into bankruptcy, the creditors get cash, SOE gets the game. That financial projection comes on March 1st. Brad either has the projected cashflow to continue developing, or he doesn't, because the pump is dry. If it wasn't dry, Vanguard would not have been released when it was.
So, you better pray they hit the projected subscription numbers, rather than tell people, "Noob, this game is not for everyone, this game is hard, go back to WOW". Otherwise, you will be playing games you consider second hand care bear tripe, like AoC, by July.

No, its just a simple statement of fact. Not every game is made to suit YOU! I know the majority of MMOs are not to my taste and guess what, I don't play them. Keep all your financial mumbo jumbo, the game will do fine, deal with it.
PS : I won't be playing AoC or LOTRO. Unlike yourself, if I try something and find its not for me, I simply move on to something else. I dont hang around forums doomsaying.

Actually, you have no idea what type of games I enjoy, and I am sorry the financial mumbo jumbo makes your head hurt. Go back into your fantasy world and ignore the real world. Unlike you I don't judge a game until I play it, and vanguard is a diamond in the rough, racing against time to be polished. The real world, not your fantasy world, will determine whether Vanguard receives that time. Once again, I am sorry if such concentrations of thought make your simple brain hurt.

Stop trying to condescend, it isn't working. I've played every MMO going. I retired at 29 years old and all I do is play games FYI. I would never bash a game I hadn't played and I don't frequent the forums of other games to bash them because its a childish pursuit. Vanguard will be moderately successful, get used to it already. I'll be sure to PM you come this time next year when the game is STILL doing fine. Crow anyone?
the game is fine. not good, fine buthe performance is honestly very bad.. i run 45 fps with all the tweaks etc out in the open, and the moment i hit a group with 5+ players it is slideshot heaven mind you, i run the game on high performance... while some of you say thats '" all my hardware can take" don forget that: - i run EQ2 on 1600+ high qual in raid - i run WoW any raid/BG without a hickup - i run Daoc 100 vs 100 rvr with not a single FPS drop, mind you,, ALL of the above examples look WAY better then vanguard does at the setting i am running it.
too bad, the game has great potential. but this is nuts.
Can I have your account? I can't afford Vanguard (it costs 125$ where I live).

If you are retired at 29, and all you do is play games, I really feel so sorry for you. Then you really do know nothing about real world financial markets. You really do not realize that the success of WOW caused venture capital to sit up and take notice of the MMORPG market, and freed up money for independant developers like Sigil. You really have no idea what this failure would mean to independant game developers in the future. Or what this success would do in opening up the doors to more venture capital.
You seem to think I am bashing Vanguard, though in my posts I am just providing the financial realities of the real life world. No place have I trolled, because I like Vanguard, and want it to succeed. What I dislike is rabid fanbois like yourself, both in game, and on the forums, that try to shut players out by telling them this game is not for them, it is the sole property of only the rabid fanboi. Brad McQuade has quite a bit of his money tied up into this venture also, you are alot more comfortable than he is at this point. Since you are retired at 29, and financially independant, and like Vanguard, why don't you call up Brad on the phone and offer to float him some cashflow so he can breathe a little easier, and take some more time to develope the game. It would take about $500,000 to cover expenses for each month the game needs further developement. Wouldn't that be in both your, and his, best interest?
Or maybe you are not financially independant at 29, and are just another beer swilling redneck living in the UK who'se creative thought process occurs in the spinal column, that sits and thinks he knows it all, and doesn't have the intellect to think beyond "dude, this game is not for everyone, go back to WOW". For rather than find ways to say that, you should be encouraging players in Vanguard. You're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
And I don't have to eat crow about anything, the next 20 days are going to be tough on Sigil, and will determine whether they can get the game in enough shape to maintain the subscriber base necessary to generate the cashflow to continue operations. Where in my posts have I said they won't make it? That's you reading into the facts as presented.
Now I'll go for my couple day ban on the forums....ASSHOLE.

Nice constructive post with yet more of your condescension. I made my money in the financial market, I just don't feel the need to beat people over the head with that information. Have fun with whatever game you end up playing

So...You mean that Vanguard is a whole lot tougher than any other MMORPG out there ? Sorry to burst your bubble but Vanguard isnt any tougher or has better AI than any other MMO on the market..Sure it has a more grim death penalty than WoW and currently even EQ2 and maybe it has a steeper level curve(havent noticed this)..But these 2 doesnt make a tougher or more challanging game it only makes it take longer..CHALLANGE is not time..Everyone can have free time, but the majority doesnt want to quit their jobs just so they can beat a brainless mob in a cave..
Content in 10 min ? Most of the quests I did in Vanguard takes .....Yes about 10 min
And please..Isn't Vanguard also a carbon copy of all the MMO's currently on the market ?

Come talk to me when you get past level 20. Don't even bother telling me you already are because you wouldn't have the opinions you have if you were. It is far more "challenging" than any other MMO out there at the moment. Hey, if you don't like it, you can always leave and play a game you do enjoy
PS : I live in a world where I've played the game for more than a day or 2 and actually know how difficult it gets.
And please..Isn't Vanguard also a carbon copy of all the MMO's currently on the market ?
Sigil have never said that they wanted to make a different game. They have always said that they wanted to take the best of what already exists in MMORPGs and put it together into one huge world, to cater to folks who enjoy and miss this kind of content from past games like EQ1 and such.
I completely agree with the fact that the game is not finished at release, there are bugs, lack of performance, etc... It has already been said countless times, over and over again that the game had to be released due to Sigil's financial situation.
So we know this. All you guys are whining about over and over again is the same BS. You can go on whining for days, it won't change the facts.
THAT SAID, I am really Laughing Out Loud hearing you whiners talking about carbon copy and how VG is a bad game, but not one of you has been able to give me the name of only 1 game that is as beautiful, complete and offers as many possibilities as Vanguard.
So go on whiners, you obviously have nothing better to do with your time.
Originally posted by Sharkypal Stop trying to condescend, it isn't working.
Regards
S
Uh, I'd say I've seen that mention of the early retirement at least 10 different times on these forums in the last month.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
Yep, the game was not designed to look good on lower end hardware. I am enjoying playing the game at max settings, but I don't think I would still be playing it on low settings.
good for you, your a minority
Yah, I dont really empathize with you. 3 year old Graphics hardware and you're complaining it doesn't run well? The bad news for you is that you won't be playing much if you don't upgrade. It's not your hardware "sucks", it's just not up to the task of Vanguard. Your comparisons are pretty weak as well
WoW - 2 years old (and made to run on very low end hardware)
EQ2 - 2 Years Old
DAoC - 6 years old
Van - 1 Week old
Can't say it enough, you pay to play on PCs. There is no argument you have that will invalidate that I'm afraid. It's just the way it is whether you like it or not.
Also, while it's been released for a week or so now, it's been in DEVELOPMENT for 5 and a half years. Compare the functionality of the game with the allotted time for it's completion. I'd say it's sub-par, at best.

Me and my friends as of last night decided to take our leave from the game also. I think what annoyed us was the crashing to desktop after anywhere from 60-120 minutes of play. Logging back in and being dead and having to eat the xp loss. Memory leaks are not your friends. However that said good luck to you folks that will try to play and hopefully in a couple months we will try again
On a side note: When you cancel your sub they dont do a stupid why did you leave survey. I was so happy lol! Later all and much luck in Telon
I had this same problem with Lineage 2 1 month ago, very frustrating. But then L2 was released 3-4 years (?) ago and we still see these kinds of problems...

I'm still waiting.
That's just it though.
Yes, Vanguard encompasses everything. However, it doesn't excel at anything.
In terms of PvE, I would say FFXI is 5 times better than Vanguard.
In terms of PvP, I for one enjoyed WoW, but I realize a lot of people don't. Even then, I'd suggest EvE over Vanguard.
In terms of fun-factor....I don't even believe this game is a top 5 competitor.
So while I will agree with you in the sense that Vanguard is a huge game, I also don't believe quantity is more important than quality.

I agree with you, we all have our own personal preferences. As for me, regarding PvP there is nothing better than Linage 2.
I also have more fun in L2 combats than in VG. But if I look at all the other games, there are many very good games; but they are much more limited (even if many of them excel at what they do), there is much more to do in VG and I see it will be much better with the time.
Although VG is already good enough for me to enjoy myself, it needs more work, that's sure.

Why would you even try to use such a weak argument. The game dwarfs any competition in scope and size, yet you try to apply developement cycles of much smaller games to vanguard . Vanguard was designed from the ground up to let players reach ever single facet of the world. That means the devs have to make everything in the world interesting... no small feat. Now compare this to WoW which also took 5 years to release. The game is nowhere close to the size of Vanguard, and they used instancing. 20% of the Azeroth is unreachable by design.. meaning the world is smaller yet.
I play the Vanguard, and enjoy it. The bugs make me furious sometimes but they are not gamebreaking. I also played WoW and REALLY enjoyed it till I hit 60. It was missing something... that Vanguard has delivered.

If you didn't care for the endgame in WoW, you are really gonna hate Vanguard in a few months.... There isn't even an endgame to hate. Of course it's fun now, everything is easy and rewarding at the low levels. It doesn't get more challenging later, XP gain just gets slower and everything gets ridiculously expensive. After a few months you will have seen every inch of what you now consider a huge world, it really isn't all that big, and with every race having its own low level areas on the map, there isn't actually that much real-estate devoted to high level encounters. It's pretty fun to try out the different classes and races, so that should give you something to do for a while.... but eventually you'll realize that it isn't bigger in scope than most other MMOs.... And I really doubt it's going to stand up too well against the games coming out in the next 6 - 12 months. I don't think that content wise it is a bad game. I just think it's inaccurate to imply that it is somehow leaps and bounds ahead of everything else out there. I would interested to see how your opinions on the overall scope of the game in another couple of months.
Normally I would think that 6 months after release, a new MMO would already be getting a bunch of new content... but they will still be busy trying to get this one in the shape it should have been in before it was launched.
While we wait for all the dire predictions to manifest themselves maybe we could have an "Offical Nostradamus 'I predict . . ' " thread?
I know it's fruitless though - all the people who are enjoying it will be in game . . well, enjoying it - and the people who don't will either go off and do something they DO enjoy or stay to continue to rail against it . . . unless that qualifies as a source of enjoyment in and of itself.

Isn't Sigil working for money ?..do you really think Vanguard was made for some odd hardcore group of players that used to play EQ ? So if Sigil finds out that they could easily get a few extra 100k subs they wont alter the game to get these people ? Do you really think that ?
Or did you mean something else ?

You see, what you fail to realise is that there is a moderately sized group of people who DONT like the current crop of carebear MMOs that permiate the market presently. Vanguard WAS aimed at that group. Why does every game have to be a carbon copy of the last one? Why does every game have to cater to a crowd of people who want to show off and blast through the content in 10 minutes. There are plenty of games for you people, go and play one of them!
Hmmm.... how do I put this.....

Nice constructive post with yet more of your condescension. I made my money in the financial market, I just don't feel the need to beat people over the head with that information. Have fun with whatever game you end up playing

/thark
You see, what you fail to realise is that there is a moderately sized group of people who DONT like the current crop of carebear MMOs that permeate the market presently. Vanguard WAS aimed at that group. Why does every game have to be a carbon copy of the last one? Why does every game have to cater to a crowd of people who want to show off and blast through the content in 10 minutes. There are plenty of games for you people, go and play one of them!
You live in a dream world friend Sorry

Come talk to me when you get past level 20. Don't even bother telling me you already are because you wouldn't have the opinions you have if you were. It is far more "challenging" than any other MMO out there at the moment. Hey, if you don't like it, you can always leave and play a game you do enjoy
PS : I live in a world where I've played the game for more than a day or 2 and actually know how difficult it gets.
Good luck.

Uh, I'd say I've seen that mention of the early retirement at least 10 different times on these forums in the last month.Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
I'd say it's sub-par, at best.Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

I'm still waiting.
I had this same problem with Lineage 2 1 month ago, very frustrating. But then L2 was released 3-4 years (?) ago and we still see these kinds of problems...
Best wishes to you, see you soon

I'd say it's sub-par, at best.
-----Zero Punctuation Eve Online Review-----
I know it's fruitless though - all the people who are enjoying it will be in game . . well, enjoying it - and the people who don't will either go off and do something they DO enjoy or stay to continue to rail against it . . . unless that qualifies as a source of enjoyment in and of itself.
