Pretty bad idea to compare them seeing how LOTRo is a more linear mmorpg set towards casual gamers and Vanguard is a more sandbox mmo set towards hardcore mmorpgers
LOTRO comes out as I expected, given turbine's record with AC2 and DDO.
You don’t think that it has more to do with this being a thread on the primary fan site for the Vanguard community?
Vanguard doesn’t have its own forums because they wanted to promote a fan network instead. Silkyvenom is by far then largest of these at the moment, linking there is basically like linking to the official forums for other games.
It was an interesting read..and did provide me with enough info that I'm now trending away from this game.
Not because I dislike Turbine, or the concept, but small gaming worlds, with instancing even into housing are not my preferred playing styles.... regardless of the games polish or great support.
Others will thrill to it, especially the more casual gamers...
I actually see this game denting WOW's player base...if only a little bit....

I've read that post on the beta forums and it is indicative of a minority of the community. Turbine is making no effort to cover up potential "problem/complaint" posts because it knows the vast majority of the players love this game. I have been in beta since November, back when I was play CoH and biding my time for Vanguard to come out. I had frankly forgotten about LotR and signing up for the beta back when I played DDO. I almost didn't download the beta but did so when informed that Vanguard wasn't close to being ready for launch. I was hooked from the very beginning and haven't looked back. I ended up buying Vanguard because I had waited for it for so long but frankly next to LotR its a disappointment.
LotRO isn't for everyone, if you are a hardcore pvper stick to Guild Wars...if you need a huge, mostly empty sandbox world and don't mind bugginess on the level of AO and SWG then Vanguard is the game for you. If you want a game that has fun combat, great, meaningful quests, and the greatest fantasy story ever told that your avatar can actually be a part of, then LotRO is for you. People can blow smoke rings at this game all they want, the fact is that this game is brilliant and because of that will be the most successful game since WoW and if Turbine can put out a Moria expansion within the first year may even challenge Blizzard for supremacy.
Lemee break it down to simple terms for those who hate reading walls of text.
LOTR - Boring, quest, quest never die, quest never die, oops lost an hp point, quest.. kiddie boring linear game.
Vanguard - Boring. Quest, Quest, can't find any quests, can't find any quests, bug and die ^2, can't find group, get a group but bug and die, bug and die, runtofindmorequestswhyistheresuchahugeareawithnomobs, nerf class, no patch, omg helpzorz /cancel.

Correction: If you want a huge and unique world packed full of content and sights, go with vanguard. You can't have a successful sandbox world if there's nothing for you to play around with in it.
And people said the same things about DDO before it came out. In the end DDO and LOTRO ended up being a lot like AC2 - Mostly empty and unengaging worlds, a linear world with linear advancement, instance based content, uninteresting classes with uninteresting combat, with the only saving grace of the game being it's supposedly rich lore and history.
Hi there, for the person that said lotro is very easy - wait until you get higher level it is much harder than wow imho. The classes take alot of skill to solo the missions at higher lvl. No uber class handed to you so you can do everything with ease.
Vanguard has all sorts of things going for it, except that it's boring as hell.
LOTRO has all sorts of things wrong with it, except that it's actually quite fun.
Plus LOTRO is more polished and ready for release now, two months before it needs to be. While Vanguard is a mess, and probably still won't be ready for release even six months from now.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
For the record, I have played both. I am in the beta for LOTRO and I bought Vanguard when it came out. I really only have time for one, so I have to cancel one of them. After playing Vanguard for the first two weeks of its release, I am fairly sure it will be Vanguard that I cancel. I will try it a bit longer, but Vanguard is currently much much buggier than the LOTRO beta (with 2 months to go!). So much so, that it is just frustrating to play. As a measure of its bugginess, I even hotkeyed the /flush command (which reloads the graphics).
I *might* return to Vanguard in 6 months or so once they have all the problems ironed out, but until then it is really not any fun.
Vanguard has all sorts of things going for it, except that - in my opinion - it's boring as hell.

Interesting.... At lvl 22, i'm doing pretty well with quests, where were you hunting and what level were you? Infact, i would say from lvl's 1 - 15 i had absolutely no problems finding quests - unless you were looking for the big ! and NPC's telling you the exact directions to use to find your next questing area.
I have tried the beta of the Lord of the Rings Online as well, and I have to admit that it felt very WoW-like in execution. The interface is nearly identical, from bags to the battles. While it didn't bother me that much, it made LotRo feel like a super-polished WoW -mod ( in a peculiar way ). It was a pretty linear experience, but yes, it was fun ( in a casual way ) - and I am contemplating on buying the retail version ( thanks to being a huge Lord of the Rings -fan ).
Still, it serves a very casual crowd, with casual MMORPG needs. I wouldn't even think about LotRo if I didn't have Eve Online at my side - *that* is one deep, interesting and slowly progressing game ( which, fortunately, gives leeway for a grind-fest like LotRo to co-exist ).
Well I betad Vanguard, and really the only thing I didn't like about it was how bland it felt. I seriously tried to play that game, and I just didn't feel like logging in at night. There was no 'hook'.
At the same time, I would have a hard time buying LotR if it indeed is very content limited. I like my MMOS to be Massive. DDO would really not work for me. I'm one of the people who actually loved the fact it took 4 hours to cross Antonica back in the day. It's cool on so many levels.

You have an odd way of saying that you disagree

I can never get why people defend games like it's their sisters honor being painted on the local water tower.
You , yeah you go play your game.
You, yeah the guy griping about <generic game ID#2> go play yours.
I've yet to play either of them honestly. LOTRO doesn't seem like my cup of tea, though in the beginning I was hyped about it.
Vanguard has too many SWG aspects to it at release for me to even touch that game.

These 2 games are completely different styles.
The only thing that is the same is they are MMO's.
Compairing them is like compairing apples to oranges.
