What's solo play like?

Question is in the title. Thoughts? What classes? etc. I'm very much a casual player and real life time constraints don't allow for much else when playing online games. I'm leaving Eve and looking for something else.

Thanks in advance,

Early in the game (ie before level 20), soloing is viable.  Although even around your teen levels you'll start feeling the pinch.  The game is not solo friendly.  Once in your 20s and on, the solo xp, loot and rewards are so low compared to grouping, it is completely useless.

Maybe this will change in the future but for now VG is almost completey group oriented.

Ranger - highest dps in game, no need for groups - you got buffs, run speed and heals as well as pets. Solo easily into mid 30's. At lvl 20 you plink a target for 1000+ dmg

Cleric - you got most buffs in game, you can heal, you wear heavy armor and at lvl 20 have more AC with your buffs that a plated warrior times 1.5  You can take multiple mobs and walk out unsinged

Shaman - very well rounded, with pets, heals buffs and above average dmg

FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !

LOL, Euthorus, the quote in your sig is great! I busted out laughing at that one, I'm glad you posted. I almost want to copy that and post it on the Eve forums, lol.

Now on topic, thanks for the class suggestions. I'm giving it some thought and this kind of information is good and insightful.

How do Necro's do at higher lvl's ?   I am finding the one I created as a test to be quite fun.

Necro is fun but a bit tedious - at lvl 35 you end up with a small army - some nasty rotting undead dudes that ooze *charm*. Class definitely has its rewards.

Last week Disciple was a great solo player but it took a nerf to healing and energy costs, as a result the dps took a hit too.

Disc plays well but isnt anything special in terms of power now, point is cleric may well be next to get a big whack with the nerf stick, xp gain for me as a high teens disc is slow and Im starting to feel ..... bored

anyway, early days for VG and the balancing continues, any class that looks good today might be hit after you put in a month of play.

I was playing a Disc - which now became a miserable tedium of low dmg, crappy heals and rare moments of enough Endurance to actually use a special. It gets worse too - your costs increase as you lvl and your End bar stays the same.

Even the underdog healer -Bloodmage has more fun and variety.

Which brings me back to Ranger/Cleric - roll em up and lvl longtime ! Best DPS meets best buffs/heals.

Soling is highley viable. Im not sure what its like at 30+ but there are solo quests at all lvls. There are some greate solo classes so its what you pick thats important. Necro, ranger, druid. bloodmage were good in beta not sure now tho

Also the two other spheres are completly solable. Crafting you can get work orders which give you all the supplies you need and diplo is just a fun cards game which is full of solo quests. Never seen a group diplo quest.

Thank you for the information.  Do you think that the OP will still be able to play the game after he reaches 20 given his real life constraints?  Does the game after level 20 lend itself to small chucks of play.  I am not talking about Diplomancy or crafting but adventuring.
