Pros: Its polished, its fun, it has a unique look.
Cons: Its simplified into the extreme. A 4 year old can easilly make a character and play the game without any challenge. No choices EVER how to build your character, everything RPG has been removed to make it easier. Good for most people, bad for anyone above a 4 year olds mental capacity.
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
Pros: Aesthetically it's gorgeous, sound is excellent (except combat...) and it really feels like middle earth
Cons: I do agree it's very simple, lot's of cloned characters, and no class customization... what sets me as a Minstrel apart from another minstrel??
FFXI: Gauhar - Odin
Question: From the sounds of it, the character customization is basically like Everquest 2? where all the classes have limited customization, and most everyone look alike? if true this will keep me from playing it.
Cons: limited choices in race (I know, the lore more than likely), character custimization both in initial creation and in class specialization, I know it's going to hurt 100x's more seeing someone named "blueballz" or such running around in ME!
ASlso, I'd like hunter way more with a pet. Though Lore-master is my class for the hunter/mage twist of the class (IMO)
Overall, I like the game and will be playing come launch. I hope they can add to the character design segment of the game, add in class specializations, and maybe add in a little more PVP than Monster Play. I'm not a big PVPer, but if they could incorporate an "Arena" or "sort" where people can bqttle in a FRIENDLY fun type of way (glorified dueling), that would be a welcome addition. Again, I'm not super familiar with the depth of ME lore, but if that wasn't breaching the lore I'd love to see it!
Any comments?
Pros:
-It's nicly made, fun, and an overall great game.
-The quests are fun
-Great community, no 12 year olds running around screaming i r teh ubarz phear me lawl
-fun classes
-OK graphics
-Alright audio
Cons:
-Animations are sort of weak
-emotes arnt that great
-Some of the scenary seems to be rushly made in places
-UI costumization is VERY limited
will re edit later
I miss DAoC
Pros - polished, a game that is actually ready for release
good quality graphics that don't require a high end system
clean well designed user interface
good quality sound/ambience
solo and group friendly
Cons - lacks a significant death penalty, players won't respect the environment
too many bind on pickup items, none is preferable
game world is small
crafted items are inferior to dropped/quest items
same ole fantasy game with same ole fantasy races, nothing new
questgivers marked with icons, an unrealistic dummy down approach to questing for the lazy
overall too easy to level and earn coin, very WoWish in that regard, not challenging
I remember when I did EQ II beta. One of my biggest gripes about the character development in that was the lack of choices. I was used to UO, or AO, games with RPG in their name because I had full control how my character would look and behave. EQ II was extremly limited...
This is worse. You have NO choice. None what so ever. You will be EXACTLY like any other of the same class. So unfortunatly.. its a big con. MMO designers today are really doing their best to remove everything that defines an RPG from MMORPGs

Con - Zero customization of your character. When you gain levels, you gain new skills. There isn't even a pretense at a choice. You just pick the same ones at the same levels as everyone else. It's as if the designers made ONE character, and we're just levelling that character up over time from 1 to 50.

pros: Combat is fun, game world is a good size, easy to jump into, character advancement is slow but not tedius, plentiful quests, good graphics, good sound, polished for a beta game, lore lore lore
Depends on your taste: Crafting system is simple though not overly simple, not very many classes but those classes that are in the game are very different from eachother. Cannot play evil races. no pvp.
cons: some bugs(it's beta though) not much character customization, some animations aren't very smooth, annoying interface issues where you can't type and do anything else at the same time except autorun.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I like people who say the game is polished shows you never tested it.
Its far from polished they claim to *fix* bugs yet more popup latest patch horribly unbalances the game its becoming more of a grind fest game at very least is 5 months away from a good release. Your only aloud play 1 part of the whole world so basicly when other realms open they will be bugged like hell and you get pay for it lol.
I wont say its all bad because it isnt like some said nice place but dont kid yourself turbine is launching a half game *mabey not even* So dont go telling people lieing garbage about it being ready and *polished* im a real tester know how it is.
@ bornfree
what on earth are you talking about "when they open the whole world" as i understood it, only world part which will open at launch is Eriador...what we beta atm, IS the whole world.
I do like how its polished and runs well, for me in beta. Its middle earth.
CONS:
Middle earth never seemed so boring. Players have no ability to set their character apart from other players. Innovation is non-existant.
Conclusion:
If I wanted to play another Orc/Elf game with nothing unique I'd go back to WoW.
Now, if you want to talk about being clueless then.. *points up*

This is not the case, and you would have discovered that if you had actually leveled any characters. It is limited, but to say you will be EXACTLY like any other of the same class is simply not true. Also, I have yet to see any other character (other than when you first start out in newb land) that looks exactly like mine as well. The choices are very limited, and some will have identical skills and traits ect...just like any mmorpg. Obviously this beta version did not offer what you would like to see in character customization, I would have liked a bit more diversity as well, but to say there is NO choice is false.
Well, there is the trait system that they are still working on. If they "get it right" then you should be able to cusomize your character quite a bit.
They still have some time to add more visually. They added a "bit" more in the last beta, but it really needs more. Stil, they have some time so let's keep our fingers crossed.

LOL!
Okay then "real tester" you seem to be spouting off there pretty well. So please tell us the major bugs that you are experiencing? Go ahead give us three. And give us an example of the unbalanced game play in the last patch and how people will be detrimentally effected.
Come on "real tester" you're calling us liars, now put your money where your mouth is!
No, you're not a real tester ... and your opinions are bogus. Now that the NDA is lifted, I can put the lie to these nonsensical ravings.
I started Alpha-testing LOTRO in August. After six months of testing I know more than the professional "reviewers" do about the game.
Open Beta March 30. Release April 24 -- and it'll be a smooth launch.

That's all I guess... I really want to like this game because I do love Lord of The Rings, but something in there makes me wanna heave, leave and close the door.
Artist conceptions seemed to been well executed by the development team
Character Animation have a lot more fluidness then given credit for
ex.
Water is brilliant
Playing music in game
A lot of Weapons and Armor to discover
The crafting system makes it fun to craft for me
Over all ease to get into the game and enjoy it ( the fun starts at level 1 )
Instancing done well
The over difficutly is good, meaning you can play the game how ever you want to.
The Community
Monster play
Good Special effects , not over done like asian mmo's and not under done like other mmo's, just enough to add to the over all beauty of the world
The World itself was well crafted and well planned, the zones are thought out and the tricks of the trad really shine in creating the landscapes. The way the world is designed should win rewards not only does it look amazing , it gives lower end systems the chance to play ,
..............................................................................................................................................................
Cons
Town Lag
Night Sky to me is lacking atmospheric Effects
Could use a few more hair do's ( though lineage 2 had far less options)
Rocks need bump mapped. Nothing else. but the rocks, think that would make the entire game pop even more.
.................................................................................................................................................................
who me ?
Con : group size is too large ( should of been 4 for 7 classes)
Con: Raid size is too large for target population ( should be 12-18, not 24)
everything else is good in my books.
Perhaps one of the better poiished state games since WoW
Graphics are very nice
Cons
To easy, no fear of dying
Tailored more to a single player no real group play support
End game will be an issue well since there isn't any. What we see now is what we will have till the expansion comes out.
WoW's character development as lacking as it can be is still vastly superior to LOTRO's
Character creation sucks... from l.evel 1 on up everyone looks the same.
To much reliance on instance technology. To much zoning going on and it ruins the immersion factor. Turbine needs to realize that to much reliance on instances is a bad thing.
Conclusions
It will do well because its stable relatively bug free and has a decent amount of finished polish to it.
