Exactly, I remeber the first time i logged into AO I was like a kid in a candy store. I could barley contain myself. Now a days it does take more to keep my attention. Its like TV violence, once youve seen a decapitation your like wow that was cool but after the 50th one its like well I think Im gonna move onto to watching people being totaly dismembered only to find out that your like sigh this is borrrrrring.

MMO story lines used to suck me in quikly. Now if the story isnt immediatly gradifying I just cant force myself to like it.

Another thing about MMOs that is getting old is the endless reading. Every quest is just a jumble of words after awhile. AoC says that every NPC will have voice overs, finaly a game that realizes that if we wanted to read we would go to the library lol.

    M

This is exactly why I harp on how vital innovation is. When I think about every MMO that I've felt addicted to, it was ALWAYS because it offered something new and different than past games I'd played. It goes for all genres too, not just MMOs. You can't just make Doom over and over. Sure, they tried with Doom III, but look how crappy it was. Gaming needs to evolve, but MMOs stagnate as they keep hoping to grab some newbie casual crowd that will ooh and ahh over the fact that they're playing with other real live people.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I am getting burned out also. Maybe cause it has been a bad week for me in Vanguard having 2 characters lose levels after hours of getting them. I want a game I can relax in, not have to grind for hours to get a level..maybe an open sandbox game like..hmmm..pre cu SWG sob. I didn't have to worry about levels, and it was fun to mix and match professions. I guess I miss the nostalgia and fun factor of early swg. Yes I know that game had many bugs then also, but they were funny bugs like warping off your bike, nothing like Vanguard where I lose levels. If a game can bring back that type of feeling in me i will find a new home there.

Because I LOVE PVP and Orcs! if anyone could tell me about a mmorpg that fits those needs not Lineage 2

Burnout hit me hard about a week ago. I am soloing a lot or duoing with my husband, one of which is massively boring and the other, massively annoying. My subscription runs out in 3 days, and I think I will take a few weeks off to paint our house and get it on the market. I'm not a gamer; outside of MMO's, I don't really play video games. Without a strong social aspect, there's no 'there' there for me.

My in-game persona and my RL personality are pretty similar to one another, but very different from my forum persona. I am very intoverted. I would never, ever say anything in-game just for the sake of provoking people/conversation, and it is a very rare thing that I actually start a conversation with someone unless they approach me for some reason. I don't blame the games. It's just that I am slow to meet people, and even slower to consider them friends.

[EDIT: stupid semi-broken keyboard with broken keys on the number line. Gotta remember to use the numpad.]

I'm severely burnt out of MMO's since SOE destroyed pre-cu SWG aint been able staying a MMO for a long time, and i've tried loans of them but they are always the same, nothing new coming, it seems to me they are offline games with more ppl hanging around. I can handle WoW and questing, i cant stand stoopid korean grindfests and its chinese most-the-same counterparts; i think basically devs are in a deep lack of ideas or maybe the financial Grand Boss that controls everything dont want to risk the investment, but MMO's are cloning themselves fastly until they will fill the universe out.

I'm a PvP'er and no MMO is treating PvP in a right path; I've retired to my Winter Headquarters and stick to BF2 and other Deathmatch series.

Waiting for AoC and WAR to come.

It is a question of fangs.

    Totally burnt out.

Still hoping for the next awsome MMORPG. Yes a ticket to disappointment but still...
  • LilfurbalLilfurbal Member Posts: 115
True this.  The ONLY thing that is keeping me interested in the MMOs I'm playing is that I'm playing it along-side several real life friends and that is my community.  FF11 was excellent but well, I lost my community, my shell has no members and I am all alone now :(

In WoW I also had a community up until a certain point, once most of it left I quit the game due to insane boredom.  Then I played Vanguard but really couldn't care less about it, I only played it on weekends with my friends on Skype.  Now I'm playing LoTRO with my same friends since we suddenly quite Vanguard.  I'm still not too interested in the other stuff like getting levels, but the music system is awesome.  And the patch today REALLY made the music system awesome.  When you are learning how to play piano IRL and then can start playing some of your learned music in a MMO to play live for people, it's very fun.

Age of Conan looks like it might get me interested in gaining levels again mostly just due to the battle system.  The real battle system appeals to me GREATLY.

I usually have had enough after a couple of months.

And then I don't want to go near another MMO again until something exciting comes along. For me that's about every two years.

I think knowing when to stop is a critical factor in enjoying an MMO.

i too have MMO burnout, everytime i start to play a game i soon realize that it is completely based on combat and that the only way to raise combat is to grind (in some way shape or form).  Makes me wish the good ole days of runescape were back (i liked the variety of things you could do)

I  am suffering from "MMO burnout" as well. For me, Every time I log to WoW, i dont feel like playing anymore. I have already gotten max lvl have tons of gold, epic flying mount, good armor, finished all quest and so on...

Im looking for new MMO since new games interest me. But most games arent that fun since they are copy of old, or are really badly built. Nothing has matched my 5 years of EQ 1 playing experience. Im looking forward to new betas but it tuns out that getting into beta is almost impossible since too many people apply.

Vanguard was suppose to be my new big MMO chance but beta was horrible. I bought my Computer last year and it cant handle vanguard  and also the game was horrible.

Eve was tons of fun when starting out since you get to learn new thing and do new things but that too gets boring after a while, that game specifically isnt built for solo players since after you get to certain point only thing to do is lvl 4 mission after mission in horrible lag. Not everyone wants to join clans and do clan pvps.

I keep checkin MMORPG.com to see what new games are out and are in beta to try out new games. So far Im bored as hell.

So Everyone, I became a genius last night and you know how, I solved my MMO Withdrawal sickness with some good old fashion console SNES, sure you have your high end Xbox-360s and PS3's but if u can tell me that you have beat orginal games before playing their newer counterparts then more to you. Because I sat down and for the past month I have beaten all the marios/donkey kongs/ and 5 of the Final Fantasies oddly enough I only get on my computer for this site and my email, go to your local garage sale or download emulator beat kirby play the games that must live on the ones that should be revived in these new ones.!!!!! DO IT.

Yes , I can't wait for HG:L to come out.  A non-mmo for me to get into.  And PotBS looks like a good change of pace.

At the moment I'm not playing anything, I'm reading and working on my own programming projects.  I'm also working on some game design ideas.

We'd to join in a Depressed MMOrpers Guild, and stand - with our overwhelming huge numbers of affiliates - as a powerful lobby and maybe the devs will listen to us, for once.

It is a question of fangs.

Couldn't say it better. I'm just tired of non-stop grinding, and it's same in all games... kill 60.000 of "this" mob to be able to kill another 140.000 of "that" mob ... and so on.

And i'm so tired of "new" games with absolutely same ( no ) content as another 140 mmos out here. All difference is between green and somewhere blue orcs.

Hopefully AoC, Aion or even Perfect World will be somewhat different.

To speak truth last one is most anticipated MMO for me rigth now, at least from what i could read about that game ... hopefully it won't be "f2p" with "buy-yourself-uber-char" Item mall system... that would ruin game on euro market i'm sure.

Even if it's just the classic static quests, or maybe something totally new, it really doesn't matter to me, because I can get the same experience of playing solo as I do from my stacks of single player games I own already. I think this MMO burnout for me is due to the lack of socialization I've been facing in the MMO population as of late. Sometimes I'll change servers and classes to see if I can net some friends, but it just doesn't seem to work anymore like it use to. Ultimately, I wonder if you think this burnout is an internal issue, external, or maybe a bit of both.
Funnily enough, I don't play often like I use to either. I remember times where I could put down 8 hours at least on a Saturday in an MMO, anymore, two hours is my fill, even on a weekend day. So I think it's power leveling or grind based burnout to be sure. I just think it's solo based burnout, in that most folks are not apt to group like the use to at least in the games I've played.
    Go figure.

Its hard to say what it is exactly. The games now are much better in many ways then when we first started. I mean look at AC vs LotRs. They are worlds apart technologically. I think 6 or 7 years ago we would have pooped ourselves to see something like LotRs. Today...not so much.

I think its like anything else, once you have been around the block a few times it just loses its appeal. Especially since MMO are essentially the same games now as 10 years ago with some feature differences and technical improvements. We know basically what to do in all of them, they are designed to be more accessible so its even easier to catch on. The worlds are tiered off by levels or small maps so there is no real sense of exploring or discovery, they seem to all have clear target goals now a days removing any "virtual world" feel.

Although they have improved in the technical realm in barrel loads, actual "level" design has taken several steps back.  To this day, no one has matched a game world in scope as a game like AC successfully, and most don't even try.

I'm not really playing any MMOs right now either. I'm playing a few single player games like Oblivion with some mods and Vampire Bloodlines (again) and of course some shooters like BF2 and a bunch of military themed games like Company of Heros.

I'm going to keep an eye on a few MMO's but overall I think the genre is soul searching for an identity right now. Someone is going to eventually deside they don't wanna be like everyone else (WoW / EQ) and do something fresh and exciting.

I'm hoping the future holds some changes for MMO's but it doesn't look very likely. As long as they stick with this fantasy / level / raid / simplistic kill task crap, nothing is going to change.

Not much of a poster, more of a lurker....

but i'm in the same boat.  I've been playing MMOs on and off since UO beta.  And now nothing can hold my interest.  I get bored within a day or two.  I've done a bunch of  "Return to <Whatever>" events, free trials, etc... and a day or two later, I'm just kind of scratching my head thinking, "Bored.  What now?"

Sucks a fair bit...  makes me melancholy.

Maybe I'll track down one of the MUDs I used to play on...

It's like reading the same book over and over and over.  Yes, we know chapter 1 will involve fighting boars.  Chapter 2 is where we kill bears.  Chapter 3, we kill the Magus of Super Duperness.

Then we figure screw it, we need a new book.  Hence, Chapter 1 we kill pigs.  Chapter 2 we kill polar bears.  Chapter 3, we kill the Wizard of Ultra Awesomeness.

"...and with that cryptic comment, I'm off to bed!"

It's a good analogy. But, you can enjoy re-reading a book you haven't read in a long time.  Just take a break for a year or so, and then come back and pick up the latest greatest MMORPG, and you'll probably enjoy it again.

no surprise with mmos to get burnout when you have to play extended periods of time to play a limited amount of gameplay. Kill mob, get xp, kill next mob woo.

when i get burned-out, make me some coffee, smoke a cigarrrette and keep killing
  • SupernerdSupernerd Member Posts: 342
I don't ever get burn out.

Just have to subscribe to more games if you feel this way I think.

Try all the the new games and play like 20 different games at once.

Well not at once but a different game a day or something.
