I have no problem with the current size of the world as long as Turbine sticks to it's tradition of free content updates. I pre-ordered but if they charge for expansions I will be cancelling.
Pretty sure they have already stated that they plan to do free content updates just like AC1 and DDO though so I'm not really concerned.
And to reiterate what others have said:
I've been playing this since Beta Phase 1 almost a year ago now. The world has grown steadily over time. They may even get some more regions in before release (though I doubt it). I also played AC1. Turbine is VERY good at adding new content to their games.
I was one of their biggest critics when I first found out they were doing this title. But what I've seen during this beta has turned that around and I am very excited about this releasing. So much so that, as I said, I pre-ordered. Which, by the way, makes this the first game i've pre-ordered since Ultima Online.
I am sure they will continue the free content updates, but the big areas like Rohan, Mordor and so on will all be expansions. If they are made free of charge, LoTRO will be the best MMORPG on the market. It has taken Turbine 4 tries but they finally should have a mass market hit of a game and I expect them to collect the fruit of their labors.
If they're paid expansions I won't be playing this long. It's just that simple. I'm paying a monthly fee. Content updates are part of that. I got sick of paying for expansions eons ago. Now I won't play any MMO that charges for them AND has a monthly fee.
LOTRO will, at best, be a secondary game for me. No way am I sinking money into expansions for an MMORPG that I will only be playing now and then.

I'm trying to find some old mmorpg worldmaps that compared several old mmorpgssizes but can't see to find them.
The old Horizons boards used to have a map that compared 5 or 6 mmorpg's worldsizes.
It seems smaller than most of the mmorpgs i have played.
