Races Only For appearance idea, nothing else

SpathisSpathis Member Posts: 79

I think they should only have races in the future ONLY as appearance option in the game, nothing else. Say so you can go Dwarf only for appeances sake just like the Stone Summit.

What do you think kiddies?

Currently Playing: Metal Gear Online, Call of Duty 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Oblivion. (Taking a break from MMO's)

This would allow for more diversity of characters (which GW needs in my opinion) without throwing everything out of balance and I think not even the developers of GW would be able to handle 10 freely combineable core classes, hundreds of skills AND different stats for races without throwing things out of balance. So yeah, races for looks are good in my opinion.

I tend to agree, it would be a really nice addition to the game. Kinda unsure why they haven't added it in so far, it's not like they lack the models for most of the preferred species options.

I personally don't see the point. I mean there are now three campaigns, each with it own sets of armour, each of the male/female characters has a large amount of customization that can be done...faces, hair colour, how tall. I am sure the same trend will continue with the next releases. Then there is the fact that you have a huge number of colour combinations you can make with mixing dyes. I'm not sure what pointy ears, coloured skin, tails or whatever would add, especially if the races had no advantages or disadvantages. And if there were racial modifiers, I am dead set against it, the amount of balancing that would have to be done would be a pain and the "they nerfed this race" posts would start. I enjoy the amount of flexibility in creating a character, it's much better than a LOT of games out there and not as good as others, but it is good.

/agree     yeah i mean   who really cares   they characters are already lagre in differences  and dyes and new campains help. once the fourth campain comes out their will be even more options for armor and charaters will look different  and their are ten classics  its not like the other MMOs where all the armor for each class looks the same depending on if you wear the same type . each class can be told apart from what armor they wear.

its good for the game  but yeah new races, sure they could be good   but yeah only for looks the advantages would, to an extent, would ruin the game. just because i would ahte to see a bunch of dwarf warriors and elf ELEs

PS  you can color your skin in the game  sure you cant make it blue  but who need blue skin?

I can sum up the reason with one word: aesthetics. It's all about how you want your character to look. Otherwise, there'd be no reason for different types of armor. There would be no reason for making your character taller or shorter, no reason to have more than one hair style, skin tone, and facial expression. It's not needed by any stretch of the imagination, but it's fun. And, since this is a game we're talking about here, fun should come first and foremost.

And if there were racial modifiers, I am dead set against it...
Funny, so am I. It would just end up being a WoW clone where your racial/class combination becomes a reason for scorn. And, like you said, it'd be a dirty bitch to balance. It's bad enough as it is now, so no sorry no racial advantages/disadvantages.

I sure hope so!  I dunno why every fantasy world has to have a bunch of weird ass humaniod creatures.  Like if in the next expansion we saw new races as opposed to new classes or new missions I would be very dissappointed.

I'm against racial modifications aswell.  i'm just saying it should be an appearance option, just like when you choose hair style and sex.

I think Anet are thinking about adding races and that they will be just for appearance. I mean take the hero zhed shadowhoof thats no different to a human ele.

Or how Talon Silverwing is just a normal Warrior. And how the Dwarves are just regular classes too.

It would still be nice to see them added, even though I really doubt they will be.

I agree with OP. Races would do absolutely no harm to the game, and would give it alot more diversity. Sure there are new hairstyles in each campaign etc, but you can't you can't use Prophecies' hairstyles in a new Nightfall character for eg. Adding races would make the game more fantasy-like...imho it would just suit it so well that not adding it would be stupid. I get bored of seeing humans everywhere. I get enough of that in real life

What about dwarves? I think there are dwarves already in GW but they should copy them from WoW cuz they look better...
Also it'd be cool if you could make elves skin black so you have drow, like Drizz't!

drak elfs would be cool.. some new dances with the skins? maybe you pick your class then a screen pops up and then you choose our race just for apperance i could think of some pretty cool dances for some of the races.... I LOVE RACES!!!!

I think Anet have been working with this idea of different races for some time, the transformation potions and heroes kinda show that. My bet is they will be new races on the next campaign but I don't know what they'd be or even what the theme for the next one is. I want sci fi but i know thats not gonna happen, it'll never fit in with the lore.

You people are always crying that so many games are WoW-look-a-likes. Why the heck would you want a new campaign with World of Warcraft's concepts??
