I've had something bouncing around in my head. Could a very well done mmorpg based on the Harry Potter be a WoW killer ? I look at the movies and the books and see massive potential to create a Harry Potter mmorpg that would draw millions of subscribers very easily. A mmorpg with game play simular to WoW in complexity with graphics and physics. Think about all the mini games. Guild contests with Quidditch. Guilds would each eventualy earn Houses. Could have Death Eater raids. I think the possibilities would be endless and a well done Harry Potter casual mmorpg would be very successful. ....Mind ya...I wouldn't play it..lol...just saying.
Ideas, comments, smart remarks?

Astro, I bow to your abilities as an oracle.
lol here we go again with another thread on how to make a game to be a wow killer.
lmao....harry potter.....lol man mmo scene is getting crazier and crazier every day with these threads.
It could work, though I don't think making the whole game or even a large part of it doing the sorts of stuff Harry Potter does in the book has any hope of working. What do they actually do? They go to boarding school, essentially. The protagonists go on wacky adventures but usually spaced over the course of a year.
Is school conducive to MMO gaming? Mull over that one.
This is one of those catch 22s, in my opinion, like Dune or Star Wars. Everyone wants to be the Fremen, Sardaukar, Bene Gesserit, Jedi, or Sith. Making everyone one of those things is nonsensical in the original context. The only thing you can do to avoid it is to change the context somehow, place the game before/after the original, just say screw it and toss Jedi around, or something along those lines.
In the case of the hypothetical Harry Potter MMO, everyone (at least initially) is going to want to be at Hogwarts. They're probably going to want to see some canonical characters. Even though the lightly touched on adult world of part-magical England would allow the developers much more freedom to muck around with the game storyline and systems.
Harry Potter MMORPG? Great idea!
I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, but it might be a good way of reducing numbers of less mature players in the games I want to play.
Now if you could only make it free to play too....
It wouldn't be a hack-n-slash deal, it would be something like you design your own unique looking student, get sorted, and meet your house-mates. Then, through a heavy RP setting, you advance through the 'ranks' of the school while you learn spells and develop knacks in certain subjects. Where one guy would be good at transfiguration, another would be good at charms, etc. Then there would be Quidditch matches of course, tourneys and games, etc.
It would be more like an interactive roleplay world than an MMORPG.
EDIT- What WOULD be a great MMO for the kids is a Pokemon MMORPG.
Think about it, the world is literally perfect for an MMO. You travel around with friends, catch rare Pokemon, battle NPC gym members and gain badges, breed your Pokemon, etc.
The 'phat lewt' that hardcore gamers hoard up would be the super-poke balls, evolution potions, etc.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
I'm not entirely sure if Harry Potter Online was going to be a MMORPG or just an online game of some other kind. I believe EA is still sitting on the rights, but I doubt we're going to see it any time soon.
Avada Kedavra on everyone. xD

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "

I have my own ideas of how you'd progress, what stats and skills you'd have, etc. Though if EA's already got the licence I'll probably just stop writing my proposal then
Imagine going from a scared 1st year unable to find your way around the school, to an Auror hunting evil wizards... I think it'd be grand.
We come into the world naked, screaming and covered in blood. And if you play it right, that sort of thing doesn't have to end there.
More than just children like Harry Potter. I think the fact that the author is richer than the Queen of England is a testiment to the fact.
To the OP: If it was done well and right, it could be a nice MMO. Something def different than the same old half assed fantasy crap we've been getting
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Oh pvp could be the different school in that broom game or harry's gang vs draco's game. I'd name my guy Larry Slaughter.
Maybe an MMO with an Harry Potter type of background. However I doubt that really would appeal to the masses.
