Which game do you like the best WOW or DAOC

RavkeenRavkeen Member UncommonPosts: 310
I would like to know everyone opinion about this topic. Because I played both and I really got to say that WOW  look like something Blizzard just threw together and rushed to the market. The game is so easy that my 10 year old niece made it to level 60 in 3 months. There are no unique characters in the game and both realms have the same paths. What is everyone else idea of both games. Oh yeah DAOC I just love the game.

I played wow to 60 and really liked it at first. I played it everyday after work, trying out every quest I could find. In the end though, having played DAoC, I left wow disappointed. After completing a quest successfully I really couldn't see a reason to bother with it again and that seems the only point of  WoW. You do a quest one time to try and get better gear to do it again faster? Liked my WoW time overall but only because I left as soon as I had completed every quest I came across.

I honestly think DAoC is a better game.  However all my friends play WoW....

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

I like both really, and IMO they are two different games.

WoW is almost entirely a PVE game come end game. The PvP instance are weak, IMO. Crafting is okay and like leveling is an easy grind to top levels. The graphics in WoW are better then most think, even though cartoony. They might not suit everyone. The UI is nicer then DAoC's UI. Also, the controls are intuitive which makes the game easy to play..

DAoC is a PvP end game, which is probably the best I have seen, at least it is by far the most fun I have had in PvP. The grind in DAoC is a bit more tedious. With that said, in WoW everyone has a 60, now 70, or two perhaps three or more.. And as far as I am concerned it WoW's biggest weaknes.. I really don't know of or any of the 60/70 player other then in my guild and a select few. In DAoC I knew most of the 50s, or at least knew of them. The sense of community in DAoC is much greater then that of WoW. WoW is almost too big and seems like a mmorpg on easy mode to me.

I enjoy both, however I'll probably jump ship to either Age of Conan, or Warhammer online.

Daoc of course. I think that WoW is relatively easy and NOT challenging at all and I just don't see any reasons why I should play WoW. You'd get different answer if you put this in the WoW forums though

I couldnt keep playing WoW past level 9....it's like all the grind of EQ1, without any of the interesting things or community.

I think DAoC is a better more mature game all round, but I also think WoW is a much easer game to get into....

I like things from both games, honestly. Lets be objective about this.

    What I like about WoW

Easy to get into, harder to master. Any honest person who has took the time to really master their character will admit that it takes a lot of time and practice to master their character and the different ways to play their character depending on circumstances.

Excellent UI. Everything from its sleek uninvasive design, to the dressing room makes the UI light years better than DAoC's. But DAoC is an early 2nd gen game and WoW drew upon DAoC's experiences among others. So it's not exactly fair to compare the two. DAoC's UI gets the job done, so it is not a reason to not play it. However, the little things such as being able to right click a linked item to see the stats, the dressing room, and being able to right click practically everything in order to do something is a very nice feature.

Variety. The variety of armor and skills available in WoW is astounding. You literally have somewhere between 3-5 sets of armor per level to DAoC's one, giving the ratio of 3 or 5:1 for the amount of armor sets WoW has than DAoC. Having that kind of variety and the artwork involved in each armor piece helps the person get excited about gaining that extra level. The skills are enough to fill several 10 slot Hotbars. Each skill is very useful too. In a way, this is a downfall, because the combat is too fast in WoW to effectively use each skill without mastering your character. In DAoC you have several skills, but most of them you won't use.

Racial mounts. Mounts aren't the end all be all for a game, but if you're going to have mounts--at least make them believable for the race riding them. Aside from the Tauren having a mount in Wow, things make a little more sense, than DAoC having a troll riding a horse among some of the other races.

Auction houses. Being able to auction things off affordably at any level is awsome. This helps a newb crafter sell his wares and newb adventures make money off of the lucky drops he gets. It also allows an easy to use median to sell goods to all level ranges.

Mail system. Being able to send your other characters money and gear is a much needed luxury in all MMORPGs now. Gone are the days that you can trust a person to do a transfer for you. Besides, it is very nice to be able to do business as a crafter over the mail system, because it helps the crafter keep track of orders and the adventurer get the appropriate gear he ordered.

Stability. Being able to play the game relatively lag free is a huge bonus. Part of it has to do with the low polly count of the graphics, but having good code and good programmers that Blizzard has the money to afford goes a long way for that stability too.

Battlegrounds. If all you've ever played in WoW is Warsong Gulch, then you haven't experienced the BG's really. The BG's get better as you level with more worthy objective to fight over. They also have a limit to help make the fights even.

No overpowering crowd control. PvP fights last a lot longer in the BG's because people can't mezz and stun for 9+ seconds whenever they want. WoW does have crowd control, but it is not overpowering like DAoC. In DAoC a group of 8 is wiped out in seconds, whereas it takes a few minutes to do so in WoW. This makes PvP more interesting.

Community size and RP. The size of the community has its let downs as well as its perks. With 8 million people you get a lot of asshats. But you also get a lot more people to choose from, including a lot of RPers and mature minded people. Before I left WoW I was in a 80+ member RPing guild that did all content in-game. That is better than any game I have ever played. This would not be possible without a large community.

Crafting. Crafting in WoW is easy and fun. You can make your own gear while leveling up and make a good profit off selling some of the good gear you can make. All this and it is almost free to do. You just need to take your craft early and craft as you go by collecting your resource from resource nodes, such as a mine and then crafting it near a crafting station, such as a forge and anvil.

Website. Blizzard offers a much better website for WoW than Mythic does for DAoC. Hell, having a character builder and forums to centralize the community is good enough to put them above DAoC's website, but that is only a fraction of what WoW's website offers.

    What I like about DAoC

DAoC offers several viable alternatives for leveling. This includes the old fashion mob grind, quests, kill tasks, and pvp.

Race, realm, and class selection. Being able to choose from 3 completely different realms is awsome. Within these 3 realms, they have 15 classes of their own that are pretty different than each other. Within those 15 different classes are 3 different ways to play them and all are viable if you know how to play them and play with people who know the strengths of each spec. Variety is nice and extends the life and enjoyment of the game.

Good character advancement. You have the grind to 50, ML's on normal servers, Champion levels, and realm ranks. With each expansion they give you another way of advancing without raising the level cap. I think character advancement is essential to a MMORPG, no matter how it is done. Gear based advancement, such as that in WoW is not really advancement and the game gets dull after you get to 60 in Wow; whereas in DAoC there is always room for true advancement through either alternate levels (ML's & Champion levels) or realm ranks.

Several ways to get good gear. Being able to get the best gear in game from both PvEing and crafting is awsome. This gives full-time crafters a reason to play; whereas in WoW crafting is more of a mini-game.

Siege Warfare. Nothing makes PvPing more fun than fighting over an objective. The only way to make PvP better than DAoC's seige warfare is to make what your seiging actual player ran cities that can be detroyed, like in Shadowbane and the upcoming Darkfall. Getting bonuses for defending your realm is also a nice perk and gives people a reason to keep playing. DAoC's endgame is RvR which is ever changing and not really an endgame; whereas WoW offers the choice of grinding raids dungeons for better gear or battleground for better gear.

Good company ethics. Mythic is by far the best MMORPG company I have payed a service to. Mythic incorporates log-in polls to get customer input, feedback forms that are actually discussed in weekly committees and then responded to during grab bags every Friday (if the question is common enough), and the Mythic keeps you more up-to-date than Blizzard does on what's coming down the pipe for the game.

    Conclusion

I like many things from both games as you can see. I would like to see a company that incorporates all the things I like from these two games into one game. I feel that EAMythic is doing just that with WAR, at least from what I have read.

Aye, replayability is a huge reason i left WoW. I like to play different classes to suit my varying playstyles. Since I prefer playing a Mage, tank, healer all at the same time, but class based MMORPGs don't offer it (only sandbox mmorpgs do), I am stuck making 2-3 characters. The quest content is hardly interesting the first time around, much less 2 more times. And most races are unappealing at best. So...if you roll a class and find out that you don't like it, you have to reroll and repeat that content. Doing this several times leaves a bad taste in your mouth for the game. This is why I prefer DAoC's leveling method of offering quests, mob grinding, and PvP as equally rewarding alternative methods of leveling up. This greatly increases the replayability of the game.

If you want to copy and paste it over to the WoW forums, feel free. I won't though. People value different things in games and I imagine if they don't like mainstream, which is WoW, they probably would have left by now.
