Ship Setups

Attn: Pirates and Skallywags!

A newb captain needs some help with ships. Is there different approaches in setting up ships in VC (i.e. some people prefer smaller faster ships vs. others who like large, slower ships with more guns)? Or is it the goal of every player to get the giant ship-of-the-line Man-O-War type vessles? As a person coming from EVE where some players prefer the faster Interceptor/Frigate classes, where other like the bigger Battleships, is this the same case with VC?

Thanks

The ships in the games generally get better the higher the level is. There is little reason to stay in a lower level ship. Rather if you want a faster ship you go for a adventurers ship. If you want bulk and armor go for a warriors ships. I frankly think the Warships are the way to go. More cannons and armor will get you thru bigger battles more oft then speed will. At least in this world.

I plan on staggering my ship classes. I'm leveling adventure atm and then I'll move on to merchant followed up by the fun with battleships. I recommend getting every category up to have a strong ship in the end.

I have to say, this game is insanely addictive. Bleh, I kinda wish I didn't start playing!

I must admit this game does interest me, but (and this is partly directed at Dystopiaboy), how similar is this game to Eve in the way PvP works ?

What i mean is, are you fair game as soon as you sail out there and so need to get in to a guild pretty quickly ? or is this the sort of MMPORG you can play part time as a white shield ?

Also, I take it, that while the game is free to play, to be able to stand a chance of winning a naval conflict, you do need to real world purchase credits for essential items ?

Well if your a non-combatant or a crafter if you keep your weapon skill and sea battle below 31 skill points you wont be open pvp.

Although even then if you go on a guild mission such as the ones you get in the guild hall your marked as a target until the mission

is completed. SO yes you can be a white flag.

I take it, if you want to do some ship to ship fighting, then you're always going to be open ?

Also how easy is it to swap between types, i.e. could one start as a trader, then switch to a fighter ?

Oh and .... if you lose your ship, I assume you have to buy a new one to replace it ?
