Can I play this game with my lower-end machine?

First off the system specs:

Dell Inspiron (notebook) 1501

AMD Turion 64 x2 1.6 (Dual-Core)

1GB DDR2

ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 2/ 256MB

I'm moving into a new apartment and I dont have a lot of room for my desktop pc (which is significantly better) so I was debating whether or not I should sell it. If I can run LoTR on my notebook then I will. Not to mention the fact that I'll probably need the extra cash.

In comparison, I know Dungeons & Dragons Online uses the same engine as LoTR and I can run DDO just fine on medium settings (post-effects turned off). If the system requirements are similar then I should have no problem.

The desktop system I want to sell:

P4 3.2 HT

2GB DDR2

GeForce 7950GT w/ 512MB (PCIe 16x no SLi)

7200RPM SATA2 HD

What do you think guys? Should I do it?

That laptop sounds like it should run LOTRO fine. My system is less than that and I know it'll run fine on mine.

Btw, how much are you selling that desktop for?

Edit: Damn, you're on the other side of the USA.... I wanted that desktop...

You should be able to run it fine. The only real question is whether or not the game supports your mobile video card.

With a p4 3.2, 1 gig of dirt cheap DDR and a geforce 6800, I can run on the highest settings.

Well I could probably only get at the most $500 from a buddy sadly. People are really iffy about buying used systems (i know I am). The system is about 4 months old. The motherboard supports all the latest processors up to quad-cores (socket 775) too but I just used a hand me down P4 from my friend.

It'l run but not well, I tried it on my laptop with the same ammount as ram and mobile card (diff processor thought) and it was very laggy on high and such.  I basically play on medium.

I currently run LoTRO at the highest settings of 1280x1024 with a 7600 gt card OC'd alittle bit with 2 gigs of ram on a 3200+ AMD processer.   Good solid framerates.    The one thing were in a treat for just like DDO and AC2 had is the high res textures that will be released.   They do take more power to run smoothly but will look amazing.

I appreciate the speedy feedback. I'm definitely crossing my fingers that it'll work. I was also wondering if the open-beta has started since the NDA has been lifted. If that's the case I'll reserve my copy right away. That would be the best way to see if it'll run.

I would find a way to make that desktop fit, even if i had to sleep with my head 2 feet from the ceiling.

economically and gamplay wise it makes the most sense.

Yep. As a gamer I'm probably going to want to have my higher end machine to see all the bells and whistles. Even if I do keep my desktop, I'm still curious to see if LoTR will run on my notebook for mobile gaming. I'm pretty much done with MMOs. I've tried everything. Right now the most interesting game out there looks like DAoC and no one even plays that game anymore.

If you preordered then Open beta starts March 30th.

If you preordered then Open beta starts March 30th.  Depends which version he orders because US and EU versions don't share servers, montly fees or when you can start in LORTO.

US preorderes can keep their characters that is created after 30 March in the open beta but there is a levelcap,so you can't make a level 50 in 25 days and carry over that level at release.

EU preorderes can start 10 days before release with no levellimits carried over in that period so they keep everything they maded in those 10 days.

I think us U.S.ers have been given the poopy end of that agreement! The EU deal is much better, only $150 USD for lifetime, and no level cap (although I want a level cap).

yeah but US preorders get to play for like 25 days and the EU preorderes only 10 days prior to release.

Why is the EU deal that much better?

The EU lifetime offer cost 99 £ not 99 €uro

    99£ is 193 US $

    Going off topic...

Yeah the US$ is low atm and has been for several years.

If tourists travels from Denmark to US it nice because it benefits us but i have heard alof of american tourist complain how expensive it is to visit my Country Denmark.

Don't know what prices to compare with so i just throw out some.

Prices an american have to pay for things in Denmark.

    1 liter gasoline = $1,6

    Sixpack of beers = $7,4

    Standard pizza = $ 8,46

A 180 Gram steak as maincourse in an average nondiscount resstaurant =  $30,83

KFC bucket,14 pieces of chicked and 4 medium fries = $31,72

    Big mac = $4,76

    A  standard average new car = $26435

    A standard single room on a 4 star hotel for 1 night. = $193

No idea if that is considered expensive for the average american.

I use that exact laptop except with 2gb ram instead of 1.  I actually run it better on my laptop set on medium than I did on my desktop set at very low, so yes you will be able to run the game just fine.
