Absolute lowest system specs for running LOTRO

One of my friends who I have seduced into playing LOTRO with me when it comes out wants to know if it'll run on his laptop. I think this is really stretching it, but here are his specs.

Processor- AMD 800 Mhz

Ram- 512 DDR

Video Card- integrated as far as I know.... so its gonna suck out part of his ram...

Has DSL and enough space on laptop for game.

I do not think it'll work, but please prove me wrong.

it ran pretty sketchy on my son's machine, probably close to the lowest end it can handle. Athlon 2800+, 512 DDR and a geforce FX 5700 - 256.  He actually ran fine on medium settings as long as he wasn't around large groups of other players.  It still ran better than Vanguard does on a machine that was top of the line 6 months ago ;)

What is the clock speed of the Athlon 2800+?

What is the clock speed of the Athlon 2800+? I think it's about a 1.8. With the Athlon processors the number (example: 2800) usually implies it will run almost as fast as an Intel clock of 2.8. There's an article entitled "the megahertz myth" somewhere out there.

Being totally honest, it IS plausible to do. The only real skecthy thing is the video card. It will be hit or miss. Also, upgrading the RAM to 1gig would be a cheap way to go as well.

Now mind you, even if he can get it to run, it may not run well enough, or even look that good.

Open beta starts in April for those that don't pre order, so if you/he can be patient, you can take it for a test run before buying it.

Exactly what I was thinking. Hopefully we can give it a run on the laptop. Upgrading its ram won't be to bad, but video card upgrades for laptops is like trying to escape from hell...

I can run it, just BEARLY on my laptop:

3.0 Ghz Pentium 4 - 1 gig ram - onboard 256 mb ati graphics card (shared ram)

It runs like garbage. I can't group on my lappy, because all the extra avatars lag me way too much.

It can run on fairly slow computers if they have a somewhat ok Graphicscard.

I can play it,but on low/normal settings if i want ok FPS,but in certain places like towns and so i have to stand still for like 5 seconds quite often and let the game catch up with HD loading.

Out in the open where there is longer between players i can have a lot better performance and can tweak my graphics up.

Playing on this old system but forcing down the CPU because i have problems getting my PC to start in normal settings.

It locks up if i try to run it at 133/166 busspeed.

Athlon 2500+ (normally it should run at 1850 Mhz with 166 busspeed but i have forced it to run at 1102 Mhz at 100 busspeed)

    1 GB PC 2700 Ram

    40 Gb seagate HD.

Radeon ATI 9800 with 128 Mb ram.

Can run most of the times ok on low settings but towns are tough on my system.

I think Turbine could fix a lot of the HD loading if they maded a slider that Anarchy Online uses.

a "View other player distance slider"

That is really helpful in AO and i bet that would help a lot here too.

When i just run to town for selling/quest i don't care to see other players so why not make a slider we could set to 0

and then run through town without seeing other players if we had a slow system.

When will companies start beeing realistic about their minimum requirements.

Minimum requirements should be a system that could run the game at atleast 20 FPS at all times for a smooth experience and no way their minimum requirements can do that.

I can't get 20 FPS at all times with 1 Gb ram and Radeon 9800 on lowest possible ingame settings.

I hope it's their memory leakproblem that causes my problems.

Me too. My system is more than enough for the requirements but I'm getting low framerates. I'm guessing its the memory leak, and hopefully it'll be fixed by release.

I recently gave my mother my old computer for her to use.   I decided to try out LoTRO on it and it ran like a champ.

    AMD 2500 Athlon

    1 Gig ddr ram

    ATI 9500 pro 128mb card

Left settings on Medium and little to no lag at all running around the shire.    The 9500pro was a great card for its time.
