    When the last uninspired, brown, bland piece of scenery is downloaded, it will end.

    EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

    It's the biggest or one of, games in the world. It will take time. If you friend has the dvds. It would be easier to install it from there. If you dont need cds keys for that.

    It took me under 2 days wthi a 2gb connection. Ignor the remaing time thng it do it in parts. so youmight just have enoughier part once it hit 0

    Lol I havent played the game yet, but I can see from the screen shots these graphics are amazing lol. so im not paying attention to trolls, After reading these forums I actually wanted to buy the game more, because the reasons people left were stupid, ya gotta give a new game a chance, not all games have as smooth releases as DAoC.

    The graphics are hit and miss. With a few exceptions I feel they did a wonderful job with the world. The mobs and NPCs leave a lot to be desired imo. This game really needs a whole new set of animations.

    Sometimes the patcher hangs up and needs to be restarted.  It should not have taken that long at all.  It took me about four hours on a 1.5 mb connection.

    Yeah, but if you start in the "wrong" part of the world it can leave you feeling bored and uninspired, that's for sure.  I think it was Qualia that I thought was a pretty boring and sometimes ugly area.  The parts I explored just seemed like endless dead grass and hills...  But then you look at Western Thestra and it looks much nicer with the forests, hills, and mountains.  Even Martok isn't bad when you start as an Orc or Goblin.

    I quit WOW for VG... graphics aside the game is a blast.  Currently if you want to play at all you have to turn the graphics down a lot.  Otherwise lag spikes and what not.  Otherwise get a group and quest.  Me and my friends all got between 10-12 last night on new toons just by questing together.  PVP past level 7 is fun as hell if your used to fast paced dmg/healing.  I find that in VG its healing > dps, but that's how it should be.  Unlike WOW where on my priest I can barely outheal incoming DPS.  In VG when I get a heal off its usually to full life.  The incoming DPS, if critted, its comparable but not enough to over come healing.

    I've spent hours and hours playing it and I'm in agreement. It is bland, brown, and uninspired.

    All the buildings and scenery are pretty much rubber-stamped from a small collection as well.

    To the OP.  Another thought, which hopefully doesn't get lost in the sea of Troll Drivvel on this thread....  keep an eye on the files that are patching.  Just make sure they are still moving.  If it does get hung up, you should be able to notice this and restart.

    The abundance of agenda trolls who want to trash any game other than whatever they''ve decided should be FOTM is usually what makes me wonder why I bother posting here, I mean I feel no urge to goto the LOTRO sections of the forums for example and post my feelings on that game, I played it, it knew it wasn't remotely for me or any of my guildmates but it has it's section of audience and I wish them & it a happy relationship. Anyway it's nice to see posts that remind me why I do browse here.

    If you have an older machine, there are plenty of good posts around on a few simple tweaks to getting the max FPS performance from it, if you've got a newer one you can power through. [ and ] control clipping plane (draw distances) in game - there's quite different graphics loads from drawing a few hundred meters and drawing 8 kilometers as a good basic tip.

    Thats what hooked me up with Vanguard in the first place. You have to consider, however, the following facts:

    - this game has many bugs;

    - it is not oriented towards solo people. While you CAN solo, it is better to play in a group. this brings up another point below;

    - if you start in a wrong part of the world, you may have hard time finding groups

    - Sigil doesnt seem to patch Vanguard well. Some patches introduce new bugs, or drasticaly change some key aspects of the game (crafting was screwed like that 2 patches ago. It seems to have been returned to previous fun level so thats a good thing)

    - you need high end PC in order to fully enjoy Vanguard. The engine is not optimized, so if your PC is anything less then medium range PC or is not maintained properly, you may not receive good performance out of it.

    All in all this game HAD a huge potential, now it has a mediocre one. It was released way too soon. It still has a lot to offer, if you can ignore the bugs. Graphics are amazing, technicaly and artisticaly (except for some character models, which are artisticaly mediocre at best, but thats up to your own opinion). There is a realy good crafting system here, one of the realy good ones since horizons. Diplomacy is also a new and unique feature. It has been slightly nerfed (you cant now parley with just anyone, limiting your choices) but still decent enough to keep you parleying.

    There are a lot of other things, good and bad, that can be said about Vanguard. But I think the best way to decide whether you like it or not is to try it. In a nutshell, it is a deep and very complicated game but it was (unfortunately) rushed prematurely into release and now suffers greatly becuase of that.

    I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
