I love this game!

Just thought I'd throw my opinion out there, with so many reviews saying the opposite.

The gameplay dynamics, while not original (nothing is these days), are fun. The questing is enjoyable - with a few nice new twists. The classes are fun to play - each has a veritable plethora of skills, the use of which is somewhat challenging at times.

Parties (fellowships) are fun because if you have a burglar who knows what they're doing, you can really work together and tackle objectives smoothly and efficiently. It can have that "well-oiled machine" feel. Minstrel is a very fun class to play - which will ensure there are enough healers to go around.

The game world is BEAUTIFUL. The attention to detail is superb. The crafting is simple but just deep enough to be interesting.

The monster vs player looks promising (haven't tried it yet) but it looks like it's going to offer a good deal of entertainment.

On top of everything - it plays smoother than other games that have already been released (*cough* VanGRIND *cough* and it's still 3 months from public release.

Overall - this beta is the most promising new game I've seen in months ... maybe since I played the beta of WoW.

------
Played - UO, FFXI, WAR, WoW, EVE
Currently - Bored.

My time in the game left me feeling like something was missing. Im not bashing the game it looked good and played fine even with the lag issues I had. It just never pulled me in. Im not a huge LOTR fan. I have seen the movies but really thats about it. Im sure the game has a much larger appeal to those people that really love LOTR. As a stand alone game with out the setting of LOTR  I dont think the game really stands out. Kind of just more of the same.  Glad you enjoy though.

I have the exact same feeling about it. Something is missing...

Personally I am in fact quite the fan of Lord of the rings, but this game could've been located "anywhere" really.

It's rather mundane and I don't get any "Ring-feeling" about it. It's just another fantasy mmorpg to me.

Sadly it lacks a whole lot of things that I want in games such as these. Just the fact that you can't sit on chairs really bugs me.

Other than that I find it rather nice. It's pretty, not too high system-reqs and all in all it seems to be a nice game.

It's just something that's a miss... I can't put my finger on it, but it sure is something missing about it all...

And I thought I was alone with this feeling

It's a nice game, and I recommend it to all... but I can't put my finger on what is driving me off of it. I just don't get it

Believe me, you're not alone about it at all.

So far the only things that has made it "Ringy" for me is that I saw a nazgül in my into-quest and that the town- and npc names ring a bell when I see them.

And that's it... if it weren't for those things this is just yet another mmo equivalent to EQ, DAoC, WoW and all the others.

(i.e. Fantasy characters running around bashing ickies in the head with sticks, swords and arrows.)

But do I like it? Yes, I think I do... it has both pros and cons. About fifty-fifty I think. For every thing I like I seem to find something I don't like.

Edit: Oh, and I have to add the largest turn-off for me - Please for the love of all that's holy someone please shoot the fashion designer!!

i thought the exact thing as you guys did at first. Quit the beta. Went back when the did the re-invites..started off the same way..but once you get to level 15-20 or so is when the game starts getting really good. If you havent given it at least that much you should really try it out again. If you did, and you still feel that way, then its prolly not the game for you. Just Remember the newbie areas are for newbies. Its teaching you the things you'll need for the good stuff. And the good stuff does come IMO. Id be happy to help anyone out that wants to give it another try. Just Send me a pm. Its not like theres anything else out atm..so why not just kill some time at least.

You can sit on chairs. Stand next to a chair and type /sit. Voila, you're sitting on a chair.

I myself had not been looking forward to LotRO, although when I got into beta I was amazed. I have played many, many MMO's, and enjoyed aspects of many and disliked many.

They Key Elements is that the world seems so alive. If your into the environment and the level at which you can become involved in the world then LotRO is quite possibly for you. There are so many quests packed into every area that you keep busy without much difficulty. I have caught myself sitting and watching the tree's and plants blow in the breeze while listening to the ambient noise (I have not been engrossed in a world in an MMO in 5 years like this).

The gameplay is really fun for what I thought it would be. They pulled the world in and did extremely well with class creation and design. The way buff's/Debuffs, attacks, and traits are done have there own little flair unique to eatch class.

Overall the game has been the most fun in an MMO I have had in YEARS!!! I would feel I lean more toward a traditional RPG, the entire world and playstyle make the game. Turbine did a great job at presenting the world ( and I am no where near a Tolkien fan-boy, never even finished any of the books) but man everything so far has felt like it has its place and it belongs there. Thats What I have been looking for was somewhere I could belong to the world and have fun and engross myself in while playing, thats where this game shines.

i really disliked this game because i found it almost cluttered, i found the quest areas acceptable, but it wasnt easily determinable to me if there was a quest available to me from a distance (like in wow a huge yellow "!" is above npc's) i really had a tought time with that...othe rthen that i enjoyed the game, but just not buying/paying for it maybe if ti was only p2p and not buy the cdkey etc

I thought LOTRO was very fun in one of the first betas I played. I got to lv 14 as a hunter then they had a character wipe. I couldn't get into it again after that though. I tried. But I was playing solo so I guess that was the thing that finnaly turned me away. Alot of my friends signed up but I was the only one who got in. Ah well.
