Two hours in Vaguard

Ive at least "tried" nearly every major mmorpg ever released and i have to say Vanguard is the worst graphics value ive ever ran into.

*  graphical lag and errors anytime you go near buildings, sometimes even players/mobs.

*  FPS - Chopy at best, unplayable at times. adjusting setings didnt help fps since its an engine issue.

*  Rendering - shadowbane was the king when it came to piss poor rendering but now vanguard has them beat, grats!!

*  Lag - latency seemed fine, no issue's, so at least sony did their part right.

*  Combat - Character and Mob animations are so poor I thought i went back in time to horizons. Clay terds with a halflings head slaped on anyone?

*  Resources - Runs poorly on any system at the moment since the issue's are mostly game side.

Gameplay: I dont really want to get in to this since Ive only played 2 hours but i will say i dont like how they tried to copy WoW's questing engine. No offense but i tried VgSoh to play EQ1 styled game....not a WoW-Clone.

LOL. So quick to post how crappy/buggy/unplayable that Vanguard is, but fails to mention that he is probably playing at below or barely meeting the bare minimum required hardware requirements. After all, if he was playing with an AMD 5600+ CPU, 2 GB of ram, and an 8800 Video card and still having these insane problems, I'm sure he would have gladly put that into his initial post to make the game look even worse. But it's not there, and I can only predict that he didn't put his hardware specs in his post because it would have pretty much invalidated his negative reports on how terrible VG is.

Two PC's - installed on both.

newer rig:  Radeon x1950 pro , 2 gig ram

older pc  :  Radeon x800 xt , 1 gig ram

Both systems run games like Oblivion , Guild Wars Factions , WoW TBC etc perfect on Max setings. Lower resolution in the case of  the older system.

No, don't feed the trolls. There are a fair amount on both sides of the arguement and we don't need any more.

While VG may have its graphical glitches and problems, it is still hands-down the most beautiful virtual environment I've ever played in, and I've played most MMORPGs. I find it hard to believe that other people do not see what I see.....

Ok, you posted your rig, now there is a chance a wave of people with worse computers will call you a complete idiot for not taking the time to tweak your .ini files.

I would say a good 95% of all the post that bash this game mention performance.   I had serious performance issues until I turned down my rendering, I cant even play. I mean it was tough to even walk.  I didnt like the game at all during the first couple of hours i TRIED to play.  After I got that worked out, the game begin extremely addictive to me.

Mob disappearing issue.  If you continue to fight you can still kill the mob, although at client side it says the mob is 30m away the server still sees it as if the mob is beside you.  Also if you have agro and mob disappears, take a step backwards and it will reappear.  Again, it is a bug for sure, but to me it isnt a show stopper at all.

My main issues is the client crash that happens after about 2 or 3 hours of online time for me.  I start to see the intermitted lag and I know I need to relog the next break my group gets.  Then I seem fine.  Again definitly a bug, but again away arround it.

And as for other bugs, I have only seen one, the Ruby quest for the stonesmashers enclave, but I havent crafted yet.  My guildies have said it is fun but it is abit complex and takes time.

So the way I see it is Vanguard is about the journey, the group quest grind thing more than just maxing you toon.  It is meant to take along time, I often stop and chat with others to find out interesting tidbits, the websites for VG are really just getting cranked up so information from other players is very important to me at this stage.  Although, as with any MMO, some people perfer to solo and keep to themselves.   You can solo in Vanguard pass 10, I know this for a fact, but I good group beats it as far as exp goes.

Will VG every get to 6 million subs?  I certainly doubt it, VG requires your attention to advance in all the spheres, not much afk grinding ( spin groups ) going on here, or you end up dead.  But from what I have seen there are alot of mainline players that are in game to give me the feeling that this game will succeed.  And after all those 6 million arent on one server anyway.  Medium pop is a good level to player at for me.  Less lag and still people everywhere.

All MMO's have bugs, some are just newer than others.  And VG defintly still needs some developer TLC as it gets ready to go into its second month.  As always this is MHO,  give the game a try and see if it is for you.

Im from Holland, Europe and the game is only for sale here now about a week. I got tired of WOW and wanted to do another mmorpg..

i loved wow alot and played it for 2 years so im no hater of that game..just got tired of the same raid..so now Vanguard...Im playing the game with my son and as far as needing a high end pc i can not say that is the case..

One of the 2 pc's is now only a middle class, but it still give nice looking frames...i have 1 account and used the free 10 day for my son, so we play Vanguard on 1 internet account and have only encountered some minor ping problems..

al i have left to say is that 2 years ago when WOW started it had terrible lag and waiting lines...way more than Vanguard now...to say that it was released to soon...i dont know...what i do know is that blizzard had some starting probles as well..and they had so much more resources than Vanguard...

The crafting and total new (for me at least) diplomacy skills are a lot of fun...i say try it out, i give Vanguard a 7 point out of 10...and it wil only get better.

thank you and good gaming to you all.

Computers 4 years old could run WoW, I play Vanguard, and I run just fine, granite I get some graphical lag, but its cause I am in a city that has numerous npc/players in it, other cities that I have been too, I dont get hardly any lag (little) and in the open enviornment, I get anywhere between 35-40 fps.

    pent 4 2.66ghz  , 1 gig ram ,  ATI Radeon x1300pro 256mb agp.

Dont know what to tell ya I noticed you didnt put your ram specs down either.????

My current rig is in between both of yours and I play the game fine.  No crashes.  Little lag... I enjoy the game.

IMO, any MMO that is out there now, is constantly in Beta, technically it never leaves beta, the reason for this is, due to developers adding coding, could cause existing coding to become unstable, and cause glitches in the game ie:bugs, yes, they test it, and sometimes little things get past them and it goes in, and it may cause graphical bugs, may bug a quest, or just plain crash the game. That is why there is a player base, to let the developers know about issues that arise, so I personally say an MMO never really leaves beta status, and if my money goes to paying those developers wich allows them to make the game better for myself, and the rest of the online community that plays the game, I will continue to give them my $15/month, for a genre of games that really never leave beta status.

If you dont want to play games that has bugs/or is in your words pay to play beta

Then go play a console game, or an offline pc game

Can we all just agree that the game definitely has performance issues?  And that the minimum spec listed on the box should be changed?

goodie...another "I hate vanguard" post that spews forth all the reasons every other one has.

We are aware there are bugs. We are aware that it takes resources to run. Dont compaire running WoW on "max settings", a commador 64 could do that  kidding, of course. But still, the compairison is getting old and we all know WoW doesnt use the resources VG does., but WoW is 2 years old. And dont tell me "BC just released and i can run it on max". Guess what...BC is no different then the main game graphically.

I am starting to wonder if most of these posts arent from people reading the forums, grabbing someone elses opnion and vomitting it back into a new post just to bash the game alittle more. 2 hours in Vanguard? good for you. I know, I know...if it was WoW you could have made level 40 by then. again, kidding.

But I am tired of people compairing these two games. They are not similar!! yes they are both MMO's. yes, they are both fantasy based. And that pretty much sums up the similarities.

And...news flash here...VG did not "copy" WoW's questing. Every MMO I have ever played, and the list is long, has had a similar "quest system". Please give this arguement a rest also.

Anyway, I'm done now. Go ahead and continue bashing at your leasure.

it does have some performance issues, but its new, its going to. Thats why there are developers, and players, you see its like a circle of life

    developers make game

    players beta game

    developers tweak game

    game comes out

    players play game

players tell developers what is happening with game

    developers tweak game more

    developers add content

    players play

and so on and so forth. Vanguard will only get better over time, and as far as I am concerned, Vangaurd has hands down the best online community. Super friendly, helpfull, and just loads of fun to group with.

I would totally agree that the specs for playing this game need to be changed. I think the recommened spec should the minimum requirements instead.

Shazzel, I can only hope that you didn't have to pay for this experience but that it was only a buddy key. I am very sorry if you had to pay. Please read the forums and I mean not fan website forums or official forums, but a forums such as this before buying another game :)

Money is valuable, time is even more valuable.

Don't buy a new computer for this game, don't waste hours tweaking the game (the devs should have tweaked the game, not us ) and don't believe, "you are just beginning, it will get better as you lvl up." I have gone much further and yet that "better" has never materialize.

you know, i really dont know how much of this game you can blamed for poor performance. i havent made up my mind yet. while on one hand i cant run it on high settings on my brand new dual core, but i CAN run it on balanced and its great....usually 25 to 30fps everywhere. while kind of bummed at first that i couldnt run it screaming fast with it maxed...i did sneak a peak at the higher settings. tbh, ive never seen such a grand game world. from the distance it takes to get from point a to b, to a tree lined mountain way way way in the distance, this game is taking on ALOT more than i have seen in any game. its pretty incredible....none of us will have a computer that can run this game maxed out,...not for another two years id imagine, and i dont really have  a problem with that. its games like this that push the technology forward faster and the sigil team has reallly really done something pretty incredible. thats why im not worrying about bugs, theres at least 10 more gigs of data in this game to get wacked out...its just simple physics that there will be greater room for errors. i believe this to be a 3rd generation title...agree to disagree? whales vagina....

p.s.  im still hoping its going to get "optimized" in a patch sooner or later and then all of a sudden magically it runs way way better
