!Dumbass! Why, why, why, why would you say something retarded like that! In the words of Walter + Jeff Dunham "Dumbass!" You know what, over 8 million people can't all be wrong!

Well if all those 8million people are like you then they must be wrong cause you need to shut up

8 million people playing a game pretty much gaurantees MORE people are having fun playing it compared to 100k or 10k playing other games.   Having LESS people play doesn't mean its any good either.  But, being the most popular and most critically acclaimed MMORPG, proves to any sane person that the game is pretty damn good.  Having more customers gives your product a bit more weight and validity.

Those who understand proper comparisons wouldn't bring up McDonalds, because even though its the most popular food chain on the planet its NEVER been reviewed as the highest quality food or highest quality fast food.   Its cheap food and its everywhere.   WOW is considered the most polished MMORPG yet designed.  You do know what polish means?  Its mean means pretty darn good.  It certainly doesn't mean cheap, since it costs more than most MMORPGs out there.  Why don't all these free MMORPGs have 8 million subscribers?

Case closed.  WOW isn't a good game JUST because its popular.  It became popular BECAUSE its a good game.

I would suggest trying out various trials.  Even maybe some of the older games.  I personally think EQ2 is s aslightly better game than WoW, although I do not like its art.  DAoC is an old game but its RvR pvp is certainly better than anything WoW has.  City of Heroes/ City of villains has fine points.  Eve is a very wide open and indpeth game although  Ifind it somewhat boring.

There is no doubt that WoW is far far far from the be all end  all when it comes to MMORPGs, even if its fanboys a numerous and loud albeit incoherent.  Its not even the best in the features is does have.  CoH has better lfg tools and movement powers.  CoH and EQ2 have more Guild/supergroup features.  Guild Wars has better match play PvP.  Neocron is the only game that has FPS elements.

WoW is a well put together game other than that, do some trials there are tons of things WoW can't offer that other games can and vice versa.

The point that was tried to be delivered was, hype creates alot of hype.

That MIGHT be true. But is it the best balanced and thought-out + gameplay variating-wise game? I think WoW is polished but there are some others which I feel works as good.

Yes, but then it became HUMONGOUS because it became popular. When it generated a whole newly born online genre. I can fastly come up with 30 people I know and "know" that started because they ... for an example, saw it on a TV commersial or all the commersial at stores with posters and paper-figures. Even tho they never played a TV/PC game before they went all "oo that looks good".

    Neither get GuildWars.

Seriously though Wow is pretty fun.  lots of stuff in it to keep you busy.  Graphics are pretty good even though it looks a little cartoony.  It does take some time to do stuff in it though.  If you dont mind that i would recomend Wow.  Plus i dont know much about AoC anyway.

for you guys gettin pissed off at one another grow up.  This is a forum and people express their opinions and ideas here.  If you cant handle it dont read it.

WoW is really fun while you are leveling. There are tons of quests and the game is really easy to pick up and play and thats not a bad thing. The world is pretty well thought out and the graphics never really bothered me. The best thing about WoW during the leveling process is that it is so casual player friendly.

The end game in WoW is the worst I have ever come across. There are really only 3 things to do. PvP, Grind faction, Farm for gear. The PvP is ok if uninspired. Grinding faction and farming for gear are not fun at all. If you are in a raiding guild this game becomes many things but casual is not one of them. Running the same instances over and over again hoping your gear drops is boring..plain and simple.

The community in WoW isnt all that great but if you can find a guild with like minded people you can pretty much ignore the assholes and enjoy the game.

Everyone should atleast try WoW. It wont be for everyone but atleast you can see what people are talking about.

The comparison to McDonalds made earlier is accurate. WoW isn't great, but it's solid and it's filling, and it's basic enough that it doesn't offend the tastes of the average consumer. Also like McDonalds, every so often a bus drops off a whole load of retarded kids, and you get to sit and watch them for your own perverse amusement.

Of the two games you're considering, I'd sugggest WoW, simply because AoC won't be out for several more months. I play WoW. I also eat at McDonalds. Neither is great, but if you're not too picky, they can both be satisfying experiences.

Finally, someone agrees with my perspective. Yes, it's an accurate comparison, and there isn't a way in which it doesn't work. McDonald's has even got those who don't get into what I like to call "hardcore" burgers into the burger eating world. This could be a housewife, or some young teenage girl, worried about her weight. All of them will quite like Maccy D's and want come back for more. For those that like it, that's fantastic, however, some of us want a little bit more from a burger.

I've tried World of Warcraft and I've tried McDonald's, too. I don't consume either regularly, but I've tried both. I prefer a burger with egg, fried onion, real sauce, fried potato and a whole bunch of tasty goodness that leads to a true taste experience. I'm not satisfied with ol' Maccy D's these days, and I'm not satisfied with World of Warcraft's gameplay, either, I'm left wanting something more substantial, something with more variety, more kick and a whole bunch more complexity. I don't care if it's hard to eat, or if I sometimes get frustrated because the sauced up egg falls out and gets on my new shirt, I want my online gaming to be an experience, a real experience.

There isn't anything wrong with World of Warcraft, just like the issues with McDonald's don't bother us who don't like it, because we avoid it. However, if every other burger chain or takeaway store began serving McDonald's rip off burgers with only slight variations, that's when the angry forum posts would come out.

I hope everyone managed to follow this extended metaphor.

...here's where the Specialist vs Jack-of-all-trades debate falls off... you can't really go wrong with having average points on everything when it comes to consumers (mainly, the gamers). i mean, i'd rather a whole group of people think im average, but good enough, rather than specialize on one area to attract better only to find out you've actually left yourself out.

with Mcdonald's, nothin really stands out, every meal they've got is average really, but its good enough for most. compare it to some other fast food chain that specializes in, say, japanese food. sure, they attract most who like jap food, but how many people likes japanese food anyways? its all about catering to many tastes(the jack of all trades argument), not just one or two (the specialist argument).
