I'm thinking about Pre-Ordering LotRO?

I'm thinking about pre-ordering LotRO, but I haven't played beta and I'm unsure at this point. I've heard alot of postive and negative things about this game. Really I just want a game to hold me over until Warhammer comes out. I'm not looking for any PvP in LotRO, Warhammer will supply that for me. But does this MMO give PvE content such as WoW? Or what MMO would you compare LotRO too?

I've been in beta for a while now, and when I've asked around, most people are telling me that they're not pre-ordering (yet).

    I was in beta.

If you are just looking for something to hold you over. LOTR would be a great option for you. It looks really nice and the gameplay is fairly smooth. My problem with it is I dont think it could hold my interest. But in your case where you arent looking for it to, it would be perfect for you.

It is alot like WoW in many ways.

    hope this helps.

I was thinking about getting in to this game myself. I am an avid Eq2 player and I just don't see anything that really makes me want to go out and subcribe to LOTR except for the fact that it's the actual LOTR world. From what I have seen I am not impressed with the graphics but graphics don't always make the game either. I really hope the can accomplish something that is not offered in other mmo's in this genre. It's sad that all the fantasy games basically stole the lore and enviorments from LOTR and D&D but yet those two mmo's seem liek they have not gotten the proper budget to pull off something special. If it turns out it's really good, I will see you on there. I woudl love to see the Shire rendered with the EQ2 engine. The screens i saw were pretty poor.

I have a question: If we don't pre-order this game do we still get to pay just $9.99 a month? I'd like to wait to see what ign and such say, but if I have to pay $15 and it was sweet after all I would be very disappointed.

I'm preordering just so i can take advantage of the lifetime offer.

It's a great offer if you play like me and continue to return to old games.

    Currently my plan is.

play LOTRO, then maybe have a look at AOC until Warhammer releases.

When playing Warhammer i will have a look at Stargate worlds and Star trek online.

And at all times i will have my LOTRO account active so if i get boored in other games i always have a great game to return to,plus LOTRO can only get better with updates/expansions so it's a win win situation if you buy the lifetime offer.

    :)

The 9.99 is only for preorders as is the "lifetime" offer.

I have been in the beta for a while now and HAVE pre ordered the game. I am not sure why people say the graphics are not great. My personal opinion is that they are at least up to current MMO standards if not a tad better. I have noted lots of added equipment looks to further set your character apart from others. Conent is being added to a world already full of content and while the land mass may not be as big as some MMOs there are TONS of quests.

I have played or beta tested almost every major MMO and lots of the minor ones and see LOTR as being at least as good as any of them. It is lighter then say, Vanguard in regards to options but that is OK. I actually like it better then WOW and played WOW since it started up through a month or two ago.

Fans of LOTR will clearly have more to like but I enjoy an MMO that I can play for a half hour and feel like I did something.

I would give it a go. It will at least be worth the price of admission in my estimation as someone who is playing now and will be after launch. Also, it is undeniably one of the most stable and polished MMOs I have seen pre launch.

Actually in the last poll on the beta forums about 80% out of over 1000 people responding were pre ordering

    I miss DAoC

Still not that impressed. No one has really said anything to the fact that I MUST own this game because of this or that factor and that is what I look for.

If you want to play 'real' Lord of the Rings environment in a MMORPG then you *MUST* play LoTRO.

Well there ya go. Altough I hope is has more to offer than just that. Speaking of that. How much interaction do you get with original characters from the series? Can you purchase a house in the Shire? I wonder.

You actually meet a lot of the characters from the lore thorugh quests.

You have to go through questinstances with them.

So far i met Frodo,Gandalf,Strider,Tom bombadil, the old hobbit and some elves that i can't remember the name off.

There is no housing at release no,but it's on their drawing board for later.

Play this game as it 's meant to be.

A game where it's about having fun with your friends,go quest, craft and have a cosy time in the world.

If you play it like WoW you will burnout in a month.
