storyline is the most important really but it doesn't help when your programming and graphics are the worst in the world. You need them all to make a game, but if you don't have ANY kind of story/quests it is going to fail in the beta

For me it's realism.
Realistic consequences for failing in battle, no sissy temporary loss of stats or simple repairs. Realistic travel times, no insta gating for convenience sake. Realistic weight carrying restrictions, not just limited by item slots. Realistic faction consequences, can't kill dwarves and still access dwarf vendors or become KOS by dwarves. Realistic drops, no swords off of animals. No icons or glows indicating questgivers which is simply ridiculous.
Even a fantasy game has to have realistic essence or it doesn't immerse me, it just becomes a joke.

I say combat system, only if it's lacking, but community still counts since MMOs are about that more than any other aspect of gameplay.
