When LORTO was frist announced a few years ago, I read about it and dismissed it as another big name that would make its money on the name alone but would be garbage as far as "fun" goes.  After reading some of the latest news I have changed my attitude to at least try it.  My first look will be this weekend on the stress test.  I was glad to see the monster combat come into play.

I have been playing DAoC regular for over 4 years, been looking for something new.  Dont think....omg, another PvPer, I like PvE as well, the thing that PvP in DAoC has given me that no other game to date has is "ownership".  Many times I would be in a PvE group and the call would go out "realm under attack!"  we would have to decide, continue with our quest or go defend the realm against the "bad guys".  Im hoping with the inclusion of Monster play that the dev's have seen that PvP does have a place and will possilby expand it later to make the evil side playable.

A note on the "WoW killer" threads;  I look at WoW as a decent game, but more importantly as a game that has brought droves of new people into a world some of us have know about for years, that is good.  I think LOTRO and WAR will do the same thing.  Numbers of WoW..who knows, but sooner or later the people who played thier frist online game in WoW will want to try something else, as we all have.  The numbers will grow in general, the population will spread out, (Yul Brenner voice) etc. etc. etc.

Anyway, Im impressed and will try it, but I am prepared for another disapointmeant, lord knows we have seen our share in the last few years.

Play it with no expectations at all and visit as few boards as possible before you play it.



That normally helps.

Then you're not prejudiced and don't have to listen to the trolls or fanbois on various boards.



Sometimes a forum can kill my interest in a new game i'm reading up on.
