I think the sytem is a fine, in a perfect world, or even a world that can stay up for a number of consecutive hours.
I am not plagued by crashes as many others, if I had that problem as well I would have been out of this game fairly soon after lvl 7.
People who suggest configuring INI files or tweaking the game may have good intentions, but they are no computer wizzes.
No amount of tweaking will save you from a chunk or world server going down on you just to log back into a freshly spawned dungeon were certain death awaits.
Had 3 complete wipes the other nigth in temple of dailuk and I was very close to just shut the thing of and forget I ever touched the game.
I still like it though but if they have any brain they will disable the penalty system for now, they have a lot of problems as of now but this is one they can postpone for some time until they can get a handle of things, no harm would come from turning this of for now.
In fact this discussion would not have existed, there is enough badmouthing of this game as it is for rigth or wrong but even the die hard fans must agree that it is bloody annoying.
As long as everyone understands that the death system we have now will be turned back on as soon as there is some stability to the servers, it is a good system after all and I want death to mean something.
As if the durability and XP hit was not enough the time required to rebuild after a crash/wipe is not inconsequential, especially for people with less then ample time to play
If you want to do a full corpse run for the entire group it will take time to get back were you left of, this is ok if you screwed up, it is NOT ok if THEY screwed up, my time and many others are far to valuable to spend in such an agonizing way while trying to enjoy something we are actually paying for.
This is the number one issue rigth now for me and my friends that started to play this game together, I can look passed most of the bugs and even the performance issues, and I have.
But if I feel if they are delibirately wasting my time by forcing me to endure a system that penalizes me for something I had no part in then they are in for surprise.
Just let us summon our corpses with no penalty for now, the lost time is far beyond enough of a penalty anyhow.
Its like getting kicked in the nuts for driving your chosen car model each time any car of the same model breaks down, and then having to put your car in the shop as well, even if I had a Ferrarri I would seriously consider switching car if that were the case.
And lets face it, this game is not the Ferrarri of the MMO world, if games were cars VG migth very well look like one, to people with very expensive glasses, but it would still have the speed and handling of an old Wolkswagon.
Easing up on the penalty rigth now would at least give us a new transmission so that we may better utilize the speed and handling that is there.
That was my analogy for the day in any case.

I don't want everything quicker. It's not about instant gratification. The point is that repetitive gameplay sucks. You want to make the game last longer, add more engaging content. Here's an outlandish thought... don't copy every other MMO's recipe for lvling. i.e. NPC gives kill x mobs quest and then leads to another NPC who gives another quest of exactly the same thing. Not only is this not fun and very repetitve, as I've stated, it's been done before... to death. Even if it a was a skill based game the progress would have be reasonable. It's not so bad when games are designed around a realistic and fun lvling curve. WoW's lvling curve is way too easy, Vanguards is way too steep. Contrary to popular belief, I'm pretty sure that a happy medium can be reached. Sandbox MMOs aren't like other MMOs. It's not about being the highest lvl to be uber and flaunt your stuff. In a sandbox game RP is king at endgame, not itemization. I don't play on a PvP server I play on an RP server. At best we can agree to disagree because I don't think you're going to see where I'm coming from. I'm just sick of seeing the same formula applied to new games. It's time for a change and this is supposed to be a next gen game. The problem is that it doesn't offer any next gen concepts to the gameplay table. Yeah it's a good game. Yes it has many bugs. Yes the grind is too steep. And, no there isn't anything else out right now that offers anything to a gamer that is looking for more depth in an MMORPG.<------- There in lies the problem. Everytime a new game comes out that can offer an alternative to the kill x mobs or grind to lvl up class and lvl based games, they never do. They regurgitate the same rehashed tired garbage to us the consumers, and it get swallowed up like it was a 6 course meal. Why? Because when we've been eating crackers and dreaming about steak we get hungry for anything new. Someone servers up some crackers with cheese and we go all ape shit like it's a gourmet meal. By the time realization hits that it's just more crackers, but with some cheese this time, a new order of crackers is served up with a twist to grab people's attention. By being satisfied with the current state of gaming, we the consumers validate and encourage designers to release unfinished products with lackluster gameplay and little to no innovation. If you don't understand where I'm comming from after reading this, you aren't ever going to. I apologize for making personal attacks, but you poked first and I will alwasy hit backed when someone shoves me in any shape form or fashion.
IMO, your posts came off as wanting a easier game (along the lines of SWG:NGE)... So my apologies if I misunderstood you....
As far as the Vanguard grind, i would of liked to seen some epic story arc's with engaging story lines that you could do to earn xp instead of having to rely on all the mini quests that really dont even connect a story togeather.. I think what they should of done was a big story arc that would of taken you from lvl 1 all the way thru lvl 10, have this at all the starting locations for new players to do, with a good story they could of drawn you into the lore of the game... And then for lvls 11-20 just have people do the various mini-quests, then have another big story arc for lvls 21-30, etc..etc... This would of pulled people more into the game... Of course the story arc's would be broken down into parts, some soloable and some needing assistance from other people... But as long as the storyw as compelling I think it would make the grind less tedious.
You could also do some story arc's for crafters, have them grind within a story to make it more interesting instead of doing the same thing over and over again for xp...
This about all I can think of right now to make grinding better without making it to easy... IMO

Played for about 4 hours today after the patch and I can say for me personaly the crashes seemd to be fixed... Usally I would crash to the desktop every 2 hours or sooner if i cross a lot of zones... Seems they finally fixed the memory leak. I also did not experience any vanishing mobs, so it would seem this is fixed as well.
They also upped the XP you get fighting in groups, so this should making grinding a little easier...
Just do what my old MUD did when the machine crashed and people lost their items (permanently lost by the way, haha vanguard and EQ people thinking they are hardcore is so cute). Give Lucky the Leprechaun a tell and have him give you 30000 gold pieces. It sucked when you lost your good/hard to get items, but hey the noobs got a ton of money so it all balanced out in the end. And if you were a real badass like my guy you made a pair of sweet spears outta some foraged wood, killed a dragon naked, skinned it and made your own armour. Now that is heroic.

From the way our posts were earlier I never would have thought that this thread would become civil.
I totally agree with what you are saying and that is the kind of stuff that would go a long way insofar as making a good game is concerned. It's also, exactly what I was getting at.
No one would play a game if you logged in day one and had everything thrust into your greedy grasp.
On the other hand, if a game has a boring, repetitive grind that's way too steep, people get bored really fast and leave.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm on the most populated US server and it's really hard to find a group. Not only that, but I rarely see anyone. I either see people that are less than lvl 10 or greater than lvl 20. I rarely find people my lvl, but when I do... it's game on and the lvling progression isn't as noticable until I get ready to log off and I go... wow... I did a ton of quests and I didn't even lvl... none of the quests even slightly peaked my interest or sucked me into the world.
Granted I haven't done any good quest lines or group quests that go up against 4 dots since the pacth that upped group exp and exp gains from quests, so maybe that helps.
I really am sick of logging in and not being able to find a group and then having to search for a quest that I cn do solo until I find a group. Maybe Qalia is the red headed step child of Vanguard's continents.
The patch today has increased XP gain.... So we'll see
As far as " Im on the most populated server, and i don't see anyone.." Maybe your not in a very good area... I see tons of People on thunderaxe everyday. But as far certain area's yeah there may be a few there, or no one at all, Like the fallen Lycium, rarely see anyone doing those quests since it seems kinda hard. # rivers always seems to be a hotbed of people, hard to actually do quests since there is so many.
I can also see a problem with the three continants, i think on Thunderaxe there is a large population on thestra. While i have played charchters on the other 2, it does seem there is far less ppl there.

yea theres nothing worse then losing xp from game errors
