The pvp in this game is what is called "monster play". You get to play and evolve a monster character as well as your "hero character". There is an article right now here at MMORPG.com about this!
What you see infront can also be seen to the right, left and behind you.
The keep in the middle can be conquered and there is more keeps to conquer.
It's about 4 times larger than WoW's biggest battleground Alterac Valley i think it's called.
It's also larger than DAOC biggest battleground.
That zone can support atleast 100 players on each side so you in the future you can see some large PvP battles just like DAOC has relic raids or the good old clashes in Emain with 200 players fighting
Not sure if the system can handle it but the zone is large enough for it.
couldnt find anything specific about pvp except this:
LOTRO will also include a consensual Player vs. Player combat system (details forthcoming), allowing players to fight against each other for glory and honor!
I believe the 2 users above your last post explained it pretty well, what else can I tell you? It has been about 10 times more fun than the WoW PvP system and I havn't even versed a player yet lol

PVP part is very important these days.
You contradict yourself. If PvP were so important, WoW wouldnt have 8 million players. PvP was an afterthought in that game, and its doing pretty well
PvP is pretty important to, uh, PvP players. But many mmorpg players are not PvPers. In fact, most arent.
And BTW there is no PvP in LotRO, there is player versus monster play, where players take on the role of a monster and fights player characters.

Ok, let me see if I can make this clear for you
there is player versus monster play, where players ... fight player characters.
Hows the pvp like in this game? cant find anything about it.
Starting at level 10, you can create a new PvP Lvl 50 Monster. This Monster character is restricted to the Ettenmores zone, which also has many goodies for Good player characters to get, quests, resources and such. Your job as a Monster is to eat them.
For me, I have never enjoyed putting my main characters into PvP much. But, this is something else alltogether. Putting myself into Monster form just begs me to charge head first into a group of greedy Dwarves mining in my space! Don't really care if I die or not, that's sort of my fate anyway. But if I can disrupt those dang Dwarves, that will be fine. And if should I take one out, all the better.
In short, for me, this is what PvP should really be about. Good vs Evil, from both points of view. I can see this system expanding with new PvP zones, new Monster types, magnificent rewards should the good guys prevail, and so forth. I really hope this works out. I want this to really work out.
Once you reach level 10 with your character, you can go to a scrying pool and create a monster character which you can use in PvMP. Your new monster character will start at level 50 and will start in a high level area where you can play it like a regular character by going on quests and such. You also can attack other players as a moster. This is techically a PvP area. Your monster will advance and gain traits and new skills like a regular character.
If you decide not to play a monster, then you can level your character to level 50 which then you can enter the PvMP area and fight those Monster Players.
So basically they got lazy and instead of adding two factions they just half assed it and made so one faction plays both sides of the feild? Or am i misunderstanding it?
Sounds like they killed any type of roleplaying with that one, not like im big on that but i know alot of people who are.

I am sorry but PvP being very important to you does not equate into it being very important to everyone. That is exactly what your statement about PvP is. It is your opinion. As it stands all of the people pre ordering this game to date that make it the #1 selling game seem to contradict what you think. For the record PvMP has been known as the PvP system for almost a year.

Yes there is sparring in the game were you can duel other players. Though i don't see very many people using it in the game. When they first implemented it into beta alot of people were doing it but that quickly wore off.
Its almost like a cutscene in a movie. Imagine if you will your Bodax the warrior for such and such reason and your progressing in your story. Eventually the movie fades to a new scene of a lowly orc huddled in the mud. He's fighting the war for his reasons. Movie fades back to bodax. So you essentially get to experience the game thru both sides eyes. Very intresting and I like it alot.
Has this Monster Play been implemented into beta yet? Not heard anyone mention whether it is good or not. Or I suppose no one is at lvl 50 yet to be able to fight a lvl 50 Monster.
This sounds very promising , for I always loved the pvp in a mmorpg and I am a huge Middle-Earth fan, it's even nicer u can just /50 a pvp monster so u don't have to rush to 50 and not enjoying the gameplay while doing this. One character for pvp and one character to actually quest, party and do al the other nice things in a pve-play. I really hope they make the pvp-play balanced nice and fun !! I am certainly going to give this game a try
I've been doing nothing but monster play for the past few days...I have an Uruk'hai bowman(called a blackarrow)
It's good fun, Monster Players can do a wide range of repeatable PvE quests that earn them Destiny points, and they can pvp against the "good" races...the "good" races can take over any number of the keeps that litter the zone, when this happens, npc's spawn and the monster players can try to take it back, taking it back yields the monster players two thousand destiny points(that's a good bit) and allows them to gain access to the quests from that keep.
You can advance your monster in rank, as well as in ability. Destiny points advance your abilities and appearance, while rank allowed you to gain access to more of the skills that can be purchased with destiny points. You can do a good deal of advancement without pvp'ing, but why would you want to?
Also, you can buy "perks" for your main character through monster play, these perks don't cost all that many destiny points and can do anything from giving you xp bonuses, to permanent stat increases.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
There is no PVP in this game. PVM is not PVP. PVM is just another zone with PVE quests, where u are lucky if any lvl 45+ will be. PVM=90PVE&10PVP.
Firstly to do any pvp here, YOU as a monster have to rely on luck that any lvl 45+ are even in the area, if they are not then there is no pvp simple as that. Secondly the obejective of this zone is to complete obscene amoutns of very hard pve obejectives in raids to, u may get about 1-2 lvl 45+ defending an area, but once again your relying on luck. So if no players are around you and your lvl 50 monsters are just going to bee fighting NPC's.
So i repat again this not PVP, this more like PVE.
Honestly, I love PvP and PVE both. Not being able to PVP will be the downfall if they don't change it. WoW will still dominate with it's millions of players. I'm sorry to say it...not everyone wants to dress up behind there computers in elf suits pretending to be the character in role play. "BEHOLD!, I am the might Garfinooogle! You shalt bow to meath!" Come on, put some real PVP into the game and create RP servers for the people who want to play make believe.

This is utterly ridiculous. I PvP in other games. Finding another player to PvP in fact is often luck, unless you're in a FPS environment. In EvE you could go hours or days without fighting anyone. At least in the PvP that LOTRO has you can find something to do while you wait for opponents to appear.
It may not be what YOU like in PvP, but it is PvP nonetheless.

Um, this is a beta that has only been running for a month or two, how many 45s and higher can you really expect? When the game actually comes out expect a lot more people to be running around. I for one won't play as a monster much, but will enjoy facing monsters controlled by other players. For all of you who wanted to play as monsters and actually have quests and such for them this is a pretty decent answer. Yeah its not as large as the 'good' side, but its still there.
Currently: Playing EVE Online Previous: FFXI, Dragonrealms, sad little stint in WOWland. Awaiting: Fallen Earth, Hero''s Journey, Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan.
Just like DAoC. When it first released it took me over a month to get to lvl 35 or 40 and try out the RvR then I was getting toasted by the cat asses who had lvl 50's already. After about 3 months was when the real fun began. I figure it will take me a good three months to get my primary up to 50 in LoTRO too, maybe even longer since I know some hard core players will be at 50 in two or three weeks and I will be playing my monster character against them.

Sometimes I wish this were true... like last night when I kept trying to complete PVE quests with my Warg, and kept getting jumped by groups of 5 or more lvl 50 Players! I ran for my dear life, leaped over a waterfall, but they hopped on their horses, chased me down and slew me by the river's edge.
But then I found a lone human Burglar sneaking around mining ore deep in Monster territory, so I snuck up, surprised him and tore into him with my claws. He stunned me, ran off, and mounted his horse, but I sprinted after him, slashed again and knocked him off his horse. We ran through thick forest, he disappeared behind a hill and stealthed away.
And then I saw a fellow MOnster, an Orc, getting pounded by a Hobbit Champion. He was near death when I stealthed and crept behind the Hobbit and slashed him for 400 damage. He knew he was in trouble and ran towards a nearby camp of elven and dwarf NPC's. The Orc and I gave chase, I tried to slow him, and make him bleed, and even stun him. We had him down to 1/3 health when he entered the clearing and finally sprinted into the camp full of elite NPC's. Another lost lunch! My evil brother Orc thanked me for saving his life and went off to quest some more.
Then there was the epic battle for the Tirith Rhaw fortress, where 40+ MOnsters finally took the keep from 20+ Free Peoples... but that's another story....
My point is, clearly there are ample opportunites for adventure, there IS PVP in the game, even now with very few high level PC's. It will only get more exciting, in my humble opinion.
