I've been following this in the official forums, and I wonder if they corrected the problem for traders and entertainers, where they are aggro to everything? It was stated that for traders, and entertainers who didn't pick anything from the combat tree, that they wouldn't be aggro, but during testing people complained because no matter what you were aggro, which kinda stinks.
You are aware that the majority of your post didn't make any sense, right?
FYI - SWG died over a year ago... the game now is SWG:NGE - which is NOT by any means, the same game. Those of you that consider it to be the same game, I would like to urge you to play EQ II for a week and then switch to WoW and play that for a week, while I sit over here and tell you that it's the same game. There really is no resemblance between the two (other than the fact that they are both "fantasy" based MMO's). Same thing applies to SWG and SWG:NGE - no resemblance between the two other than they are based (loosely) on the Star Wars franchise.....
I'm not an SWG "hater", I'm an SOE "hater." I know where the anger should be placed. I'm not mad at the milk... or something like that.
Also, respectfully, I want to know , when the game has ever NOT been about SOE.
Firstly, if you can't read English, perhaps that's why my post didn't make any sense to you.
SWG is no longer SWG:NGE, as you'd know if you'd played it recently. It seems a lot of these trolling posts come from folks who don't know what they're talking about. I guess ignorance is bliss.
As for you 'not being an SWG hater, well then play the game and find out for yourself if it's still SWG:NGE.
The game is not about SOE because the game lives due to people playing it. SOE cannot dictate that the game will have a playerbase. Only the players can do that.
I want my game back ! You know, the one with all the professions we wasted soooo many hours on. Wonder what the current players will do when SOE come up with the really really new game experience in a years time and totally change the game again into one profession (jedi?)with 8 talent trees to fully customize their characters.
SWG is not NGE anymore. Try the new version of the game and see how it's changed. They've put a lot of the old stuff back in. Sure, it's not SWG back the way we liked it, but there were issues with that game too, and the latest updates have made the game much more fun than NGE and much more manageable than the original monster of a game that hit the shelves in July 2003.
Those who base their comments on the notion that SWG is still NGE are mistaken.

wait....its no longer SWG:NGE? So they put skill trees back in? Jedi ISNT a starting profession anymore? I have my old hotbar back with the old interface? Combat feels like combat again and not some basterdized version of WoW? I can re-create my Master Doc and sit in Cnet and buff people again?
And most importantly... I CAN BECOME A MASTER PIKEMAN/TKM AGAIN???
I thought not.
Don't tell me its not NGE anymore. All they are doing is giving NGE fanboi's BACK what vet's had from the start and telling you how great they are doing with content.
Please. You should probably stop throwing around that "ignorance is bliss" comment as it reflects more on you then any of us.
...this games are for combat guys anithing else is just extra stuff.
Sorry, but you just don't know what you're talking about. SWG has the most non-combat content of any major MMOG in existence. I've played a non-combat/non-crafting character since August 2003. I haven't shot anything in the game in three years. If the game was all about combat how could I do that?
campsights...that sounds familiar. thats right, they had them back when i was playing the game.
Campsights aren't new, they're just repackaging them and selling you old stale rubbish. Hope you enjoy it.
Wha? Heck, SOE can't do anything right, can they. I mean on the one hand they're being criticised because they took away cool stuff with the NGE, and they're being criticised for trying to put it back. I mean give me a break! It seems to me that nothing will satisfy the game's detractors - seems they just want to complain for the sake of it.
Until they put the skill system back in so I can be whatever I want to be and replace the missing CH and Ranger proffesions and FOR CHRIST SAKE FIX THE LINE OF SIGHT BUG!!!!!!.......This game will continue to be software non grata on my machine.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.

Firstly, YES, skill trees are back in, as the original post here shows ("New skills are now available to traders through two expertise trees... Entertainers can now assign expertise points within two trees to acquire new skills and enhance existing abilities") - didn't bother to read it did you. Every profession (as far as I'm aware) has skill trees now. This is why I say the game is not NGE anymore.
Jedi is still a starting profession and I'm as mad about that as anyone, but let's face it, Jedi was as silly before NGE as it was after. I mean do you really want the return of the hologrind?
No, you can't become Master Pikeman/TKM, but are you really saying you won't play any game that doesn't have hybrid professions? Good luck finding such a game.
Finally, when you say "it reflects more on you then any of us", it's 'THAN' for heaven's sake. Take a remedial English class for goodness sake. You shouldn't be accusing someone of ignorance when your spelling is that bad. Also, all I'm saying is that people who haven't played the game since the new changes came online don't know how it is now, so when they comment they are doing so from a standpoint of ignorance. I play the game and I've played it since launch - how could I be ignorant of it???
Most of the folks trashing the game haven't bothered to see the new changes for themselves. I'd say it's pretty ignorant of them to go around trashing something of which they have no experience.
Sorry it is still crap................ Until they put the skill system back in so I can be whatever I want to be and replace the missing CH and Ranger proffesions and FOR CHRIST SAKE FIX THE LINE OF SIGHT BUG!!!!!!.......This game will continue to be software non grata on my machine.
Hang on. How can you say it's crap if you haven't played it recently? I just don't get it. Does a game have to have CHs and rangers in order for it not to be crap? How do you know the LOS bug hasn't been fixed? Lots of bugs have been fixed and some are fixed without SOE making too much noise about it (e.g. the chair/sitting warp bug). Again, if you're going to criticise the game when it's had so many very recent changes, you really ought to play it, at least for a short time, just to check that you're talking out of the right orifice.
Look, the fact is, the new developers are actually listening to their customers (finally). The game is actually getting better (finally). To complain when those things are the case is quite simply stupid. It doesn't help the game, it doesn't help the players, it doesn't help anyone. Sure, things haven't gone well with this game, and I was as hard on the devs as anyone when they were refusing to listen to the players and actively destroying the game, but what good does it serve to complain when things are actually improving?
The smart thing to do when devs are listening and improving the game is to get involved and petition them for the changes you want. To sit on the sidelines and just whine that it's not the game it once was is, to be frank, onanism. It might make you feel better, but it doesn't actually accomplish anything.

I've played the game since the expertise trees were released, so according to you, my opinion is valid. Expertise trees are nothing like the old trees where you could be whatever you want, and most MMORPGs have hybrid classes. Jedi do no belong in the game and that is a major flaw for some people. There is no sugar coating that...at all. I'm the person who joined SWG to become a Jedi Pre-NGE, but even I can agree that Jedi shouldn't have been put in-game.
The game DID have a lot of problems in the past, but what they have done is made things worse over all. Some things got better, but most things were made worse. The freedom we had was made worse. The time-line was botched, but it was botched before the NGE. Making PvP ranks like the old honor system from WOW was a huge mistake, because now only the hardcore PvPers can gain rank and get the extra rewards. Whereas once there was content that you need groups to take care of, now a person can do almost all content without the help of others and easily I might add.
Realistically, this is what I expect SOE should do. Make every profession equally viable in a group. Make at least 10% of the content for groups. Finish the Legacy quest line. Get rid of all the condemned houses. Make the non-combat classes equally viable in the game as the combat classes. Give people reasons to have player ran cities and to socialize with each other. Add more options that are viable concerning gear for all professions. Last time I played everyone wore the same exact armor and every Jedi wore the JMC.
Once that is done, release expansions that move the time-line forward and provide new content that concerns the time-line moving forward.

Well many people here that you consider complainers do not want to pay $15/mo to Beta test this game. After every new change, they should open all closed Vet accounts for about 14 days, so they can check it out. They've done this once, and most people tried it then. So don't assume so quick that people haven't tried the new system. To be fair, when SOE implemented the NGE, SWG hit rock bottom. So saying it has been improving doesn't say much, because the only way to go when you've hit bottom is up. When the majority of people feel that the game has improved past the Pre-NGE SWG, I am sure people will start coming back. But as of right now, it is obvious that the majority doesn't think the game has improved that much or there wouldn't be complaints of the servers being empty compared to the Pre-CU days. I'm not talking about when the Pre-CU game was packed from new players either, but when the population actually settled down.

No, they aren't. But that was a long time ago and with the new team the game has been improving. But there's a long way to go to get it back to a condition where all the players of the old game will be happy. Realistically it ain't gonna happen. We can either whine about the fact that the game is never going to be the way it was or we can accept that the new dev team is actually making things better and enjoy the game for the improvements that HAVE been made.
Anyway, I don't see what all the fuss is about the pre-NGE game. It's not as if the game was ever really great. There were always a lot of problems. I think there's a bunch of people out there who look back on the pre-NGE days and only see the good stuff that was in SWG, but there was a huge amount of bad stuff there too. Viewing the past with rosy-coloured glasses is not realistic. The NGE happened because players were complaining about bugs and unfinished content and the devs couldn't manage the huge and unwieldy system that was the old game. Sure, NGE was horrible, but it happened because the pre-NGE game was broken - something today's naysayers refuse to admit.
Now, the game is improving - it's not perfect but it's now playable - something that has NEVER been the case with SWG at any time in the past. If people must complain anyway I'm sure they can, but it won't do themselves or the game any good.

Look, I quit the game three times in frustration, so I completely understand the unwillingness to beta test a flawed game, but the fact is the game is no longer in beta. It's now playable and even fun. The problem is that there are people on these forums who take the attitude that no matter what improvements are made to the game post-NGE the game is perpetually broken simply because NGE happened. I just find that attitude moronic. At some point we all have to move on and accept what improvements ARE being made. The obsession that too many folks have with the pre-NGE game is unhealthy. We have to take the game as it is. Demanding that it be what it can never be again is unreasonable - and what it was wasn't all that good anyway.

The majority of the playerbase that played the Pre-NGE game wanted the sandbox game, not the class/level based game SWG is now. I do understand what you mean about the Roasy colored glasses and stuff, I've said the same things to some of the vets that ignored the flaws of the Pre-NGE game. However, I do remember the faults and bugs, but I still like that game much more than the post NGE game. I much prefer to have those bugs and have the skill-based system and no content except that which the players make, than to have the post NGE game...period.
I have tried the game since the game has improved since the NGE, so I would appreciate it if you quit assuming I haven't, just because I don't agree with you. The game has improved since the NGE hit, but like I said, the game has not improved enough to bring the sandbox players back. If fact, there is no amount of improving SWG to get sandbox players back into a non-sandbox game. I think you are failing to grasp what made SWG great. People who quit when the NGE hit and haven't returned since, quit because their freedom was taken from the. We can no longer be whatever combonation of professions we want and the social game has been killed due to the non-combat professions being made lesser classes than the combat classes. You can argue that if you want, but the numbers don't lie. Entertainers are actually better than Pre-NGE, but where are the Docs, crafters, and other non-combat professions that were a part of every players gameplay on a daily basis? The answer is that the community that SWG has left prefer combat over social interaction and non-combat activities. I'm not saying that they don't like socializing, I am saying that they prefer combat over it. That is not how the old community was. The old community put socializing and community building "living our story" over combat. Hell, the community was like a well oiled machine before. Combat professions couldn't exist without the non-combat professions and visa versa.
When I played the game recently, I did not have to see one crafter and only had to see an entertainer a couple times for a crafting buff to create two different lightsabers on two different occasions. My armor was looted, my crystals were looted, I had no BF to heal, no need for Doc buffs, since I was overpowered in PvE in the first place and I just went out with my carefully placed expertise points and commensed to owning all PvE content without breaking a sweat. Jedi weren't the only classes either that didn't have to communicate with the non'combat professions either. No one really had to and that is what is killing the game.
P.S.- Just because I am commenting on the changes, doesn't mean I think about SWG everyday and whine about it like you would like to think. I am perfectly happy playing DAoC and waiting for WAR which I've been playing for 4+ years now. SWG was my second MMORPG and I played it along side DAoC. So it's not like I am missing something to play, because I am not. In fact, I only comment on the changes that are made to the game, I never post in the SWG Vet or other forums. The game is dead to me and I only check the updates to see if they have brought it back to life some how, but they haven't. At least not to my standards.

I'm an entertainer - I've always been a 'sandbox player' - never played the game any other way. The game has always been a sandbox game for me. The sandbox game is coming back for other professions too, but it's never going to be like pre-NGE (except if you choose entertainer as your profession - entertainer has always been the game's primary sandbox mode).
Some things that got broken with NGE simply can't be fixed: for example I doubt we'll ever see decay come back because it's too unpopular; similarly Jedi is never going to be a non-starting profession because it's too popular as it is. We have to accept these things and move on. Decay and jedi problems would easily be fixed if the folks complaining about them were in charge, but majority rules, and the majority of players have dictated that these ridiculous decisions (no decay and ubiquitous Jedi) stay in place. In terms of everything that CAN be improved, with the new dev team in place we have a golden opportunity to make positive change, but only if we actively work for the change we want to see. But simply sitting here and saying the game is crap (or saying "I'm not going to play unless the game already has a sandbox mode") is never going to achieve that. If you don't play you don't have a say. The time to boycott the game was when the devs weren't listening. Now that they are listening the time to boycott is gone. Anyone who boycotts the game at a time when his voice would be heard and when his proposals would be seriously considered by a progressive development team is, quite frankly, a person who doesn't deserve to get his preferences implemented. Remember, there are a bunch of players who don't know the pre-NGE game - they are probably in the majority right now, and they're happy with the game as it is. Unless you join the game and actively canvass for the sandbox mode you love you'll never see it in the game because the new players don't know what they're missing and they don't care that non-active players want a sandbox mode. If you don't play the new game (and checking in occasionally doesn't cut it) your opinion simply doesn't count, nor should it.
In short, you want the game changed but you don't show up to play? Why should anyone trust that you'll play if your preferred system is in place? Why change the rules to suit people who can't even be bothered to show up?
Again, it's completely useless to take the attitude that the game is not worth playing unless it's the pre-NGE game. It's not going to happen and in my view it shouldn't happen because with the unwieldy pre-NGE game the devs had no time to create new content. I want new content in a game that is manageable for the devs and playable for the players. The new game can give us that - the old pre-NGE game could not. I miss the old game but I don't miss the frustration that came along with it due to the devs trying to play whack a mole with a system that needed ten times the number of available developers to run it.

There are a number of good MMORPGs out there. We are not limited to SWG alone, so if SOE doesn't make it into a game we want, then we vote with our dollar and leave. The majority of players has done exactly that. The majority of players don't want Jedi as a starting profession or no decay, and that is why the community it so small. If you are happy with the current size of the SWG community, then great. I hope you enjoy the game, but I won't until they give me back what it is that I liked about the game in the first place. A company like SOE and an IP like Star Wars should be able to afford the Devs needed to create content in the Pre-NGE version and keep all 32 of the professions. UO did it with a lot smaller budget, Saga of Ryzom and EvE are both doing it too. Sandbox games work. They only have nitch communities, but SOE could have made sandbox games mainstream if they took care of SWG the right way from the beginning. They should have released a finished product and did some awsome advertising. Not to mention, they should have stuck to the story line.
Anyways, I'm trailing off subject here. The point is that we don't have to settle for the post NGE game, because we can choose not to play at all. Playing not at all is better than playing a game that is less than what you desire it to be. That is what the true majority has chosen to do. The majority of all SWG players (past and present) prefer the old game, not the new game like you are saying. Maybe the majority of the current playerbase wants things the way they are now, but the rest of us don't and won't come back until the old game comes back. Even then, they would have to fix the problems that existed in the first place. Realistically speaking that will never happen and SWG is stuck with the playerbase they have now. They will never have the numbers they had Pre-NGE and any honest and objective person can admit that.

Speak for yourself. I'm an entertainer. I don't have any other choice of MMOG that suits my playstyle. During the time when the SWG devs were trying to destroy the game I tried more than ten other MMOGs that I thought might have something to offer me, but none of them had any non-combat/non-crafting content (or, in the case of Second Life the gameplay was incredibly lame). You have the luxury of playing other games and complaining about this one. I have to play this one and deal with its problems first-hand. The harsh truth is that you choose not to play at the very time when your opinion could count. You choose not to get involved, so your complaints come from a very 'safe' place. You want the game to change but you're not really willing to create the change you want. You just want to shout about it.
Those whose voices are being heard are intimately involved and playing the game right now, and that's the way it should be. Those who don't play the game are doing the equivalent of telling tales, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Opinion isn't worth much when it comes from a place that's detached from the repercussions of that opinion.
Put down your $15/month, as I do, then your opinion will matter. As I said before, you want the game changed but you don't show up to play? Why should anyone trust that you'll play if your preferred system is put in place?
This discussion is sooo funny, you all reading more and more into each others posts, and i don't think any of you understand what the other is trying to say. I could spend an hour writting a reply that could explain this whole gaggle fuck, but why, none of you will understand what i'm trying to convey. Vets....... leave it alone, they will never understand you, and NGE'rs Just play and enjoy. I had planned on writting a little something on this topic but its turned real ugly. So now i'll leave it alone, GL to you all.
If you like, you can read another of my posts about this here.
Actually there is a big difference between the WoW player and the old SWG Player. And you just showed it now... The Old SWG player played a big sand-box, he didnt need someone to tell them what to do, they just did with the tools given by SOE. Instead of the dumb WoW players who always need the Blizzard to tell them what to do (instances, instances, instances). The SWG was special because there were so many professions and so much to do... We could spend hours of game only making our home better, or making plans of invasion of a city, or playing on a band... The SWG players NEVER needed instances because they could make their own private game in this virtual world. The WoW players NEEED instances and high-end content because they are.. Well, too dumb to do something which they are not told to do...
To say that as we no longer play the game we have no rights to complain is just daft. Having already invested hundreds of hours in the game, i believe gives us the right - especially when all that time and work was wasted when they upped and changed the game without asking us, their customers! They are slowly improving the game but whats the likelyhood of bringing bach CH or ranger, which just happens to have been my favourite classes out of the 32 professions, ground out to open a jedi slot. No more rifleman/medic, bio engineering....no more being just what ya want and being able to change it when ya felt like it.
I suppose we can just pretend our game just didnt exist and treat this as a totally new game, complete with all its odd ideas of jedi all over the place, no decay and no doctors (didnt ya just love being a doc/tkm?). The vast majority wont tho as they will feel they just cant trust SOE anymore and who can blame them.
Ill keep watching and waiting, maybe forever, for the game to come back to some kind of life as a game i actually want to play again. In the meantime ill keep playing good old Asherons Call which i always seem to end up as it lets you be a hybrid and since it came out in 1999 there hasnt been one cu, nge ect and the devs really do listen to their customers.
In this thread, each person has the right to say what they think of the additions in relation to what they currently do in the game. This is not the complaint department, aka Veteran's refugee. There for, no one here has that right to bitch about the game. If you don't like it, file your statment in the proper place.
If I went into the Veteran's section and said how wonderful I think SWG is, I would (and have) been shouted out by all the people that wanted that section for complaining only and fevorishly pointed out that all the other sections were monitored for what was said (not that I believe that for a second). So take it off of this thread and take it where it belongs (which of course I should say a trash compactor, but oh well).
This thread is not a section for the ever lasting debate of NGE vs Pre CU. It's just a thread about what people think of the latest changes. Do they sound good? What more do you want (besides Pre-CU)? well over 70% of what I read here was completely besides the point.
I'm hoping these changes will work out. Personally I probably would've prefered eliminating Entertainor and Crafter (whatever it's called now) and integrating them into the other classes so every profession could make items and dance/play music. That would have been better then just giving the two professions combat skills.
It's amazing that noone has bothered to mention that they borked the trader/entertainer XP, basing it on the combat XP model instead of the crafting/entertaining model. So you now need 18 million XP instead of 13 million Xp to get to Master. And you have to craft/entertain to get your combat levels. You are now a combat profession, but get no combat XP from mobs or quest. because the devs were to f**cking lazy and/or retarded to realize they should have made TWO XP systems for a class that carries TWO gameplay mechanics. Enjoy.
Oh, and you also get no heals.
Maybe if they removed the stupid-ass frogs from the TC, someone may have noticed, huh? Instead of everybody being at CL90 while testing the XP,huh?
A lot of people are making some odd remarks about this. They are trying to fix this game! People were complaining (including me) so much when they took away camps, so they bring them back and all you do is whine and say "they are just rehashes" WHO CARES!!! YOU WANTED THE CAMPS BACK!!! YOU GOT THEM BACK!!!! Besides they are more detailed now and have special components so they arent completely the same thing.
Others have said holobands and holopets are stupid and SOE should be focusing on other aspects, ok right ignore the entertainers because you are more important.
Actually to sum a lot of this up, a lot of people aren't talking about the TRUE SWG. I played the TRUE SWG, it wasn't about JEDI, the real bit that messed this game up before the CU and NGE, it wasn't about TKMs... IT WAS ABOUT THE GCW!!!! Before TKMs and Comp armor and jedi became the main focus for you grinders (also ruined the game) it felt like Star Wars. This game stopped feeling like Star Wars the minute they added jedi, the minute every elite combatant was a TKM, the minute diversity amongst armor and looks watered down to comp armor, the minute they stopped focusing on the GCW, the minute Docs had huge lines waiting to buff people so they could grind to get xp and skills so they could be come JEDI ARHRGHGRHGRH.
SOE IS NOT THE FULL REASON SWG IS IN THE TUBES!!! LA PUSHED THE NGE, THEY PUSHED THE JEDI.
Ok, sorry for the yelling and the ranting, I just felt like I should make this clear. Oh and btw, the real SWG only lasted a month or two.

SWG is no longer SWG:NGE, as you'd know if you'd played it recently. It seems a lot of these trolling posts come from folks who don't know what they're talking about. I guess ignorance is bliss.
wait....its no longer SWG:NGE?

If you like, you can read another of my posts about this here.
