Ok folks heres the deal, 9 moths back I bought the game to play while I was on the road. Realized it was not compatible with my laptop so I loaded it on my computer to to check it out. Sadly my computer only had 128mb of ram so the game was slow as crap. Now, 9 months later I finally am off the road and have upgraded my pc. I couldnt believe all that had changed in the game between release and now. I was amazed! Vehicles are kickin, Jedi's are invincible, and lots of the littls annyoing things that were around are now few from what I can tell. This game rocks!! Im about to master marksman and some of scout and ive only been playing for like two weeks. So, for those of us who dissed it in the beginning or wanted to, I think you should give the game a second chance. It's come a long way from the bugged out release. K, thats all Ive got

I've been to many places, i've seen so many faces...
I put a fiver on it that in a few months you will say its boring as hell .
Reasons......community stinks almost everybody is on a holo grind, mastering professions asap so they can be a jedi. Grouping is a joke and nothing brings together people in this game...."solo grouping forming send tell" sums it up
If your lucky to find a guild you will find almost everyone is afk grinding.....you don't even have to be at the flipping keyboard to get xp in almost professions.
Space expansion...hmm doesn't anyone else see problems with it??? planets will be devoid of people as everyone will be in orbit. How can two distinct gaming genres come together in the same game and work?
As Han Solo himself might have said "watch your x-wing doesn't autostore kid or you will find yourself floating home"

I don't see the game being so tragic. Hologrinders are not so common these days cuase people having Jedis are not "quite happy" and usually come back to their former characters. It can change with Jedi remapping based on the quest system but there is a lot of things in the game anyway, so i don't see everyone becoming a Jedi (maybe 10-20% which is still a big number but you can't completely exclude the Jedis/Siths from the Star Wars world if you want it to be complete and complex).
The same is with Space expansion. I'm almost sure that during the first month after the release towns/cities will be "empty" but look at other MMOs, once the expansion appeared old players went to the new zones and stayed the for a couple of weeks, sometimes even months getting loot, exploring, making new quests. But at hte end they came into their usual zones, so "nothing happened". I think with the Space expansion it will be the same. I'm also planning to buy a Spaceship and to fly around but i'm also planning to come "back home" to Theed or Dantooine and i don't look at myself as being an exception.
About the groups. You see many people in "tougher" zones shouting to get an invite not into soloist group but to the normal one. And they usually create a full group within few minutes and go hunting (good example is Dathomir and famous Enraged Rancors' missions). SWG gives you the possibility to create a proper squad with soem additional "positive's" when you have a squad leader in a group (better aiming, faster moving and so on) and this feature which is unique in MMO gives you a reason why to group with the others.
So i don't think SWG situation is tragic, i think it's a great game with many nice features. Of course it also contains some mistakes and bugs but devs are trying to remove them and they also try to introduce new things into the game, especially missions (Cor. Corvette missions for ex). If you don't like the game, it's your personal opinion, as well as mine.
I've been to many places, i've seen so many faces...
I've been to many places, i've seen so many faces...
A quote from a mate who left swg "i have had enough...i've mastered 15 professions, 13 of which i had no interest in"
Yea right...there are countless people who want to be squad leaders and rangers. People are even completing the corvette solo now. I stand by my post that the only thing swg has in its favour is its ease of levelling/mastering professions. To compare a grouping experience in swg as creating a proper squad should try daoc with its healer, tank, paladin, caster makeup. The very few groups i have been in never even had a healer and where is the proper group mentality when a group of 10 people are doing mission difficulties they couldn't get solo and all spread out away from eachother?
I remember when the euro servers were launched i thought, great a oppurtunity to group with people on my time zone. My hopes were dashed when talking to an irishmen he told me to make the most of it as groups like this would soon die once people had got cash and a few of the skills they needed to start...and he was right.
If your the sort of gamer who doesn't mind soloing the majority of the time and like a easy game which to level in it may be the game for you. If on the other hand you like the socialising aspect of mmorpgs you will be sorely dissapointed. I mastered bounty hunter and soloed 95% of my time on swg.
Read the swg forums to learn how bad the swg experience is for most of the players.....take others words for it if you don't believe mine.
Pan
J7007, disagree totally with you. I currently play SWG and the City of Heros beta. City of Heros definently beats SWG hands down right now...even in its beta state. CoH is very addictive and fun(WAAAY more addictive then SWG)...nothing really to mess up by the devs because the game is very simple. Once CoH goes live in a few days, I doubt I will sign into SWG at all, probably only to put maintenence in my house. This is all of my opinion of course.
However, that might all change once the space expansion comes out. That is really what I have been waiting for in SWG. I read the interview at IGN and Hayden said it would be like X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter Online...which would be very cool. I think CoH will keep me occupied until the space expansion comes out.

Hey Explor welcome back!. My Swg account is still open for one reason. Years ago while playing daoc i met a young american level 12 pally. We were in the same guild and when myself and a few mates formed a guild called brits on tour he joined us too! After he finished his tour of duty in the middle east he took time out to visit us in the UK before going back to the states. Things like that mean a lot to me and while he plays swg i'll will prolly keep my toon going on his server while my "main" on eclipse will prolly gather dust.
Guilds, pa's whatever name you want to call it are all the same. Most are falling apart. My american mates guild now is on the path to ruin as the leader is fed up even though they have built a exclusive city. My guild ...oops sorry Pa on eclipse just had 40 inactive players kicked and now numbers at the giddy height of 15 members. This is a common factor on most servers. Cities have become ghost towns.
question for you Explor.....Would you say that Swg has some of the most negative posts regarding it than any other mmorpg out there??? Sure there are the usual run of the mill "it's just another hit mob, level hit harder mob rinse repeat" posts and my class is gimped posts.
Look at swg ....apart from the above it has posts about griefers, exploiters, lack of content, boredom, sick of grinding professions, poor pvp, poor grouping, afkers, bugs, server reboots every day.
And my all time favourite..."i quit posts" I had 2 wonderful years on daoc with a cool community. As daoc evolved being on Euro time zones i had no chance of finding groups to do the toa quests for items and it began to cater for the die hard community. I decided to quit but i felt no bitterness to Mythic and i simply faded away with some cool memories.
Look at Swg..... people leaving are so frustrated they vent their feelings out to the forum community listing their reasons. No other forum i have ever kept tabs on have had the level of dissapointment that is showed on the swg forums.
It may suprise you but i don't despise the game. There are some good features in swg but within the gameplay mechanism soe installed in it the people that are playing it are grinding professions they have no interest in and you know it. Instead of getting out there meeting people and having fun and talking to people from around the world they are learning another macro so they can keep their pc on over night

How many of you people that are saying the game is boring are actually playing it?
I reactivated my account after only playing a couple of months after release. I must say things have come a long way in this game. I am enjoying it so much that I went ahead and reactivated my other account too. I am not a fanboi if i was I wouldn't have left the first time. I have tried in the past view months these titles: Lineage2, Horizons, FFXI, and Daoc(reactivated for a short period). The only one that has kept my interest is swg. All the rest of those have either gotten really old to me or were just plan crap except for FFXI. I will say that FFXI is a good game i just couldn't get into all the little cute mobs and the interface. Any what I am saying is that before you bash it you should maybe consider trying it again. If not now then maybe after space expansion.
Btw if you do play swg getting into a PA is a must. PA will help you in finding groups to explore and PVP with. I think this is one thing people fail to do and as a result get bored because they are not getting involved in any social activities that online mmos are about.

Hmmmm wowo I forogot I posted this. Ya O have to say Im not bored of SWG yet. I havent played 24/7 but I never do. I like to space things out especially game wise so I dont get bored.....maybe a few of you haters should try it LoL. Just kidding. Any how....the game has it;s ups and downs and I do agree with that but it has come a heck of a long way from launch. THe Space Expansion could either be really awesome or a complete joke so we will have to see how the beta gets reviewed. As for now...I am a Novice Creature Handler, MAster Marksman, bout to be Tera Kai Artist, and am loving it all!

Ridiculous. I haven't read this dicussion board for a while, but you're all still arguing about SWG. Let's face it, it's now has a 7.1 rating, very few original players still play and no one will return just because of the space expansion. It's no good relying on people like Xplororer for a reasonable response because he obviously either works for Sony, or is just so obsessed with Star Wars he can't see reason. I gave SWG another go a month ago and it was still very boring and fairly pointless. If you want to part of a Star Wars obsessed community who nobody takes any notice of anymore, with the gaming ability of five year olds, then play SWG. I don't.

You do not like SWG. Nooo problem. STOP playing it! That is why there are tons of other choices for different playstyles. Pick one of the many other choices in the left site margin. Move on! SWG is a success, and will continue to be a success without you.
It is just like players who dislike EQ. They move on to some other game. They do not hang around the EQ forums constantly bashing it, whining about it. The game IS a success no matter how much they dislike it.

j7007 - SWG is a great game, it's the best MMO ever and i don't think any of the upcoming games can beat it
ummm, seriously? what the heck have you been playing? Sims Online?
panache - I put a fiver on it that in a few months you will say its boring as hell
*bump*
xplororor - Again, when was the last time you actually played SWG? There are NO guilds in SWG LOL! There ARE.... PAs.
Guild...PA...That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet
BTW, using your arguement, then EQ is an utter failure. EQ should not be played. Because with every expansion, many zones in EQ have become "devoid of people".
I believe he was referring to separate game modes in SWG...like cramming EverQuest and Quake together.
n25philly - COH is average at best. It has no depth and is extremely repetative. If you like doing the same exact thing over and over again in 4 different settings that's the game for you.
CoH has depth (not like most MMOs) and isn't that repetative. It's a game that's better for jumping in and playing for a short time, unlike EQ or SWG, where you can spend hours traveling, on a mission, on a quest, etc. CoH strips all that out on purpose. Kinda like Planetside in that aspect.
Freelance - I have tried in the past view months these titles: Lineage2, Horizons, FFXI, and Daoc(reactivated for a short period)
You trying to pick the bad ones? (DAoC not included)
xplororor - What makes the negative posts on SWG stand out is the fact soooo many players like SWG (including me) and they are getting annoyed at SWG for shooting itself in the foot many times over and over.... unnecessarily.
This is pretty accurate. SWG takes alot of flak because we see what it could be and what it should be. We all were surprised at the wretched state of the game upon release. We whine, b*tch, moan, complain, wail, gnashing of teeth, etc. because this is the game that we WANT to play, but are frustrated due to the many problems. I don't think our expectations are that high, but even then, we are talking about SONY and LUCAS ARTS. The simple reason is that it was hyped to be a great game, turned out to be considerably less, and the possibility for it to still become a great game still exists. Why else would we continue to troll these web boards waiting for the indication that significant progress to that end has been made?
whereswaldo - I havent played any other games soo I have nothing to compare it to.
Go on eBay, pick up a cheap, new (shrinkwrapped, need an unused key) copy of EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, and EVE. Several of those have free 7 or 10 day trials available online. Give them a try. Some MMOs are questing, some are PvP centric, some Sci Fi, some Fantasy. Those 4 should give you a pretty good feel for what's out there and should hopefully raise your expectations for what SWG should be.
xplororor - You do not like SWG. Nooo problem. STOP playing it! That is why there are tons of other choices for different playstyles. Pick one of the many other choices in the left site margin. Move on! SWG is a success, and will continue to be a success without you.
Again, my comment above. We don't like what SWG is. We like what SWG can be.
whereswaldo - people just need to step off SWG if they don tlike it and get a new game.
Please try out some of the other games. Seriously.
well, thats your biggest mistake right there ^_^.
If you tried other mmorpgs, you would realized that SWG isn't what it's all craked up to be

NVidia - The way it is meant to be played
ATI - The way it really plays
Ok well not playing any other games isnt entirley true...I have EQOA for PS2.....it was fun for awhile...the graphics suck but it wasnt too bad. DAoC was my second choice to buy because of the PvP. I wass a huge Phantasy Star Online player when it was out. That isnt really the same type of rpg any of these are but I really dug the sci-fi feel it had...weapons..etc. Im more than willing to give DAoC a shot...not a huge EQ fan...AO looks good too. So i will give at least one of these games a shot. Right now I like SWG...it will be interesting to compare it to other games if I get the chance and I will try to do so.
I do agree about the hype on the game.....it had a lot and turned out to be less. I wasnt involved in beta or anything so I wont say anymore though. Hopefully things will continue to get better. For those of you who did have a bad SWG experience, well just enjoy something else i guess...and maybe I will try a few new ones myself
