That honestly sounds like it could be quite a bit of fun, especially if they add new monster play areas to new regions as they are added. Since the game is supposed to be taking place during the books there are many places that could be turned into PvP areas, like parts of Gondor. I wish I had tried it during the stress test now.

actually, I think they should ditch the monsters and replace them with carebears.
Funshine bear would have his own unique powers, and wish bear could compete against him. Look out for day-dream bear! rawr! he might be dreaming of a decent pvp system that actually involves the character you created!

Yeah I saw that offer, thanks I'd rather not pay for a full subscription, and we are in the middle of a bit of a blizzard so I probably wont be picking up a hard copy until later this weekend. Although I'm not sure I want to play until open beta (since I pre-ordered) To avoid the character wipe...

Lol you hardcore PvPers are funny. I never understood why people are so gung ho about PvP in MMOs when there is barely skill involved in it, It's all about level/gear and class.

Amen brother.
I heard they're implementing a multi-cast spell that involves everyone standing in a big circle, holding hands at the erected shrine of the great Bear of Caring; and by the shear force of their combined LOVE magiccan will into existence "bad things" they each take turns trying to convert to what they feel as good and pure.
Because anything else should be shunned on these boards. Be careful of what you say, the fan boys will tear you a new one, in their shiny golden armor of righteousness.
Conflict isn't welcome here. If our differences can't be settled with a hug... then this game isn't for you.

Because barely any skill is more than the skill needed for any current MMORPG's PvE game. Don't get me wrong I like MMORPGS but they only require time investments not skill. I love it when a MMO player says my choice of MMORPG requires more skills than yours, when he/she means is in my MMORPG you push 5 buttons more times to see progress than you do in yours.

Yeah I suppose it is a little bit more button mashing. I play EvE right now and my alliance is in 0.0 space, and I like PvP it is fun but no more fun than a good PvE setting. I just don't get why people have this idea that a good game must have FFA or it's crap. Unless their only idea of fun is ganking lowbies and camping their bodies. Since by not participating in the "care bear" stuff one misses out on most of the story and game play, and therefore most of the game. If that is the case they might as well quit mmos and play FPS games. If I really want fast paced, fun PvP action I fire up BF2142, not EvE or WoW or anything like that because targeting a guy and hitting hotkeys until they die isn't challenging at all.

You know, if you people really want a Lord of the Rings MMO with uber PvP, why don't you make your own? I'd like to see what would happen, and hell, if its good I'd even play. Too bad that the only people who would play would be all the hardcore PvP crazies. Even if the game was the epitomy of PvP perfection it wouldn't work. But please, prove me wrong with your version of LOTRO... and until then get over it. There's no way Turbine'll change it. Besides, this is more of a PvE game. Like others have posted, if I want PvP I'll pop in one of my many FPS games.
Currently: Playing EVE Online Previous: FFXI, Dragonrealms, sad little stint in WOWland. Awaiting: Fallen Earth, Hero''s Journey, Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan.
Hardcore PvPers are just people with no outlet for their competitive urges to make one person the ultimate loser and themselves the ultimate winner. More than likely, they do not play sports or are just naturally more violent then normal people.
Competition is fun, but when you get joy in the fact that you have personally cost somebody something they hold dear it becomes a problem. Hardcore pvp is nothing more than that. These kinds of people enjoy seeing their opponents as being weaker than them and being able to watch as you strip away more of their power.
I'd like to know how would these pvpers implement pvp in lotro
you can't have open pvp in the world of lord of the rings, that'd be nonsense (elf beating up hobbits? they'd take license for lotr from turbnie faster than they could spell E L F lol)
I'd personally like to see a different type of pvp, more in the style of daoc and rvr, although in that case, the world would be divided in 2 and it'd make it much smaller, cause free people players wouldn't be able to visit locations like mordor unless they'd like to engage in a bigger conflict
also the players who'd be playing for bad guys, would be restriced to just few smaller locations and that'd make them whine a lot cause there's no way an orc could come to shire and take few beers while talking with hobbits about his new underwear or buying weapons... wouldn't make much sense, right?
PvP in LOTR is very tricky, I see only complaints from pvpers here, but no solution from them, that's very childish
anyway I thought that there's a duel system in lotro, no? that should be enough and that's a good solution of pvp in lotr
monster play can be a lot of fun, haven't tried it yet, but I'm looking forward to it
EDIT: I just read the review... I can't wait to try it!
----------------------------
so this is how I see it:
-open pvp like in l2:can't be implemented cause of the lotr world and it's lore and everything around it
-rvr like in daoc:could be implemented, but most people would complain about restricted areas and that bad guys don't have freedom to visit shire, rivendell, etc... so I nver want to see such thing
-duels: best solution for lotr
-arenas like in l2:this could also work in lotr, like Gondor or Bree could have arenas or rather training grounds, that could fit in lotr world
--------------------------
P.S. open pvp in lotr would not only kill the world of lord of the rings but it'd bring a lot of kids who'd be yelling "PWND! u n00b! u suxorz! xaxaxa" I've had enough of such things in l2 lol, I'd rather not have such kids in lotro too, it'd kill the atmosphere for me
I like pvp, it's fun and I've enjoyed it in l2 (although with all those kids around it's often rather annoying when some griefers find it fun to kill low level players) but I'm not hard core pvper, I'm more of a pacifist

I absolutely agree, any attempt to have a decent PvP system in LotRo would suck. its just incapable of it as you pointed out.

That's why I prefered WWII Online for PvP. Pure skill. Most of these so-called hard-core PvPers that post here would cry playing that game.
In fact, that happened a few weeks ago on the WWIIO forums. A self-proclaimed PvPer couldn't hack it, blaming the other side of cheating, blaming the devs for nerfing (desipite his own faction telling him otherwise). So he switched sides and still sucked. Finally, he went off the deep end and began griefing equipement by purposefully destroying it and bragging about it. Needless to say he was perma-banned.
The PvP in LOTRO is damn fun, and pretty well designed, and it works nicely for the lore. Everyone's happy (that is if you let yourself feel happiness, and aren't terminally pissed-off at the world).

After playing the mp , I think it would be pretty cool to have the 2 sides good vs evil , split into 2 areas, and then figure out what zones could be pvp zones with in the lore....
I really don't see why they couldn't have "what if" clause in the lotrO licensing. It has to be annoying as a game designer.

They can't more than likely because big daddy Tolkien Enterprises told them they couldn't. I firmly believe that TE didn't want to see the gankfest that has happened in many other games touch their license. I personally don't blame them. If you don't maintain a majority of the lore and the "lesson" behind it, being that good prevails over evil, then the setting becomes generic and you lose a great deal of what makes LOTRO different.
Now, don't go taking what I said to mean that I'm a goody two shoes. I've played a great deal of evil, scheming charcters in my gaming history. That said, thee are more way to be evil than brute force. Brute force is for the mindless hulks.
