So I didn't like GW prophecies that much....

However I am hearing that factions really improved guildwars. The reason im even bothering asking about this is I don't want to spend 30 or so dollars on an expansion to find out I really hate it because nothings really changed.

I have played WoW and guildwars and found WoW more fun but the problem I have with WoW is the time needed to grind and level and the inconvienence that instancing becomes at higher levels. Guildwars was interesting somewhat for me because I could run the missions with mercs and play basically by myself or with others if I chose. I didn't particularly care for the pvp as there were 3 ways to do it and good pvp really only happened if you organized a team. I've heard of huge faction battles or soemthing and im hoping maybe its one of those log in and come fight for territory and leave when you want.... I also didnt like the seemingly methodical movements and skills and having my character autorun to everything after I clicked... felt like a big diablo where I couldn't kill a 100 monsters at once.

However there were some things I liked about guildwars.... I liked the fact that there were so many skills to choose from and that you can change your build whenever you want. I also liked the fact you could gather skills and build your perfect pvp char later. The missions though started to get boring for me in prophecies and im hoping the ones in factions are actually more fun. I've heard of ritualist and assassin which im kinda interested in maybe trying out different builds with them... btw is a ritualist a summoner? Anyway, I am also wondering about nightfall which would bring this total cost up to about 70$ and I think nightfall brings levels up to 60.... So I am hoping that does not mean its grindy and that they made missions repetitive. I did like the fact I played through a story in prophecies it just got old after awhile.

Basically I want your opinions mainly on how factions improved the game because unless I fall head over heels for GW I am not paying a total of 70 bucks for both games. I would love to have a semi-trial of factions to see if I really wanted it but I don't think thats available. One last thing I really don't like the feeling of I must rush through the game. I want to be able to pick up and put down this game and have fun when I play it. Thats why im hoping the PvE is a bit more interesting and the pvp has a war type scenario so I can pvp quickly if I choose and not get a random team of the wrong classes per say.

Thank you very much to anyone who took the time to read this and respond.

Get Nightfall, don't get factions until later.

Factions gives you a new sword, but Nightfall gives you wings. Which would you rather have?

Hes right get Nightfall first, and if/when you start getting into PvP get Factions, or just get Factions when you get bored with Nightfall.  Even though I don't play as much as I used to GW has been my favorite MMO experience ever.

But thats because Diablo 2: LOD doesn't count as an MMO ;)

First off, the max level is 20 regardless of what expansion you have.  Second, if you didn't like prophecies or got bored with the pve portion, don't get nightfall.  Nightfall is an excellent expansion, but is primarily pve focused and more difficult than prophecies (IMO), it also felt longer.  Factions on the other hand is okay for pve, but is mostly focused on the pvp aspect by expanding the traditional pickup groups up to the larger alliance battles.  Bear in mind that I have never levelled a character from start in the Factions campaign, I've only gone with existing characters.

So, want more pve, get nightfall.  Wand pvp, get Factions.  GW is an excellent game overall, but you kind of have to do your research and get into a decent guild or you are going to be disappointed.  Although you can say that about any mmorpg, GW just doesn't carry it's weight as a mmorpg if you aren't in a good guild that pvp's.  Lastly, if you aren't having at least some fun in Prophecies, don't spend your cash on the other expansions.  The game does not change *that* much as far as pve is concerned.  I like GW alot though, just trying to be objective for you.

Guild Wars for me was fun at first but within a few weeks gets boring. Its fun scaled alot like a single player RPG. The instancing really kills off the social replay value.

The people you do run into in guild wars are like being at a gas station, sure you can talk to them but you'll never see them again and really have no reason to speak. Gulids dont help much either, unless you find a good one, which is rare since for every good one there are two-hundred bad.

On a side note the pvp was just "ok" for me. Fun sometimes but not really good enough to keep average power-gamer around long past 2-3 weeks. Guild wars is also starting to get expensive to keep up with, 50$ add-ons , 40$ skills ...to jump right into pvp would take some serious cash now.

The best thing to ask yourself when you consider buying it is "is it worth my 50$ to get what will be 30-40 days of entertainment". Myself i think its worth it but i just wish it had more replay value.

you don't necessarily need to buy skills (or cahacretr slots for that matter) though. I myself have only bought the games, and after a year or so, i've gotten to unlocking about half of the skills (usually the more interesting ones).

ah ty a ton for the information looks like ill be saving the money then GW is still not for me apprently.

Someone who hasnt played and wants to "jump" right into PVP you need to buy all the pvp unlocks. 120$

There are also reasons why you'll want every game version too, last i checked thats 130$ ish.

Seems pricey when you consider your geting what for most will be a month or two of  entertainment at best.

For me Prophecies was cool as long as it could satisfy my MMORPG needs, in other words the first 2 times you completed the storyline, NF just outright sucks

    - The PVE part in NF is beyond boring; a lot of running around, a very simplistic approach as they just stockpiled on more mobs. The level thing was kinda odd, they almost expected you to be lvl 15 before you get off the starter island because you run into lvl 20+ mobs only, hordes of them once you clear newbie island. (tbh, they should have spaced that much better).

    - Heroes just ruined the game... everyone soloes with his 73 heroes and henches, no one groups anymore. Because of that no one LEARNS to group

    - Graphics are nice though, around Vabbi and upwards it really is very nicely done.

Essentially if you dIdn't like prophecies because you had to do missions with "a stupid storyline"which you had to do with other players then NF might be ok for you, it's still as linear just with less story to it, and you don't have to "bother" with having to group with other people.

If you didn't like Prophecies much because it didn't satisfy your MMO/RPG needs as you found it too shallow compared to 'real' MMORPGs", don't even touch NF with a 10ft pole. NF is for the cool armor sets, skills, elites, heroes and the fact there's more exploration goals to be conquered. NF is NOT formore enjoyable MMO PVE content.

Factions is tripple worse (if you're looking for PVE/MMO content), it's essentially a PVP booster pack.
