Hi,
i would like to make a question to beta testers. Is LOTR a game for a casual gamers?.
I'm playing online games for 3 years, i test lot of an differnet games. Now, i'm playing EQ2, great game, and i'm thinking to look forward.
LOTR, let me some doubt.
I hated D&D Online, and i affraid LOTR will be the same.
My first worry, it's a very easy game, it could be make me get borred soon. What do you think about complexty of this game?. If you try to put a game that everybody, also my grand can play, give me please and advice to give him in his birthday. In a case, this game could be as deeper as EQ2,WOW,Vanguard, DOC.I want it now, and i will order it ASAP.
What kind of part of game is more soft and Turbune must improve to reach them?
regards,
Also know as Blackanddeker in EQ2

It's not anywhere near as tough as Everquest I so yes you can say it's more casual.
It's pretty easy to escape from the mobs in the open world because they don't follow you so long.
it's not like in EQ I where they run after you an entire zone.
There is 24 man raids in LOTRO but they can be completed with less players than know what they are doing.
The beginning is very easy but it scales up a bit when you level.
Mobs are not so "roll over and die" later on but again they are not so tough as in EQ I.
I have never been beaten in LOTRO by a solo monster my own level.
That was possible in EQ I.
Overall it's very casual friendly but hopefully later on Turbine will make enough tough content so the hardcore players have some lasting content too.

try soloing a white elite, bring your own band aids though.
For the OP the game is as easy or as hard as you make it. You can solo to 50 without a death by concentrating on green or blue mobs, or live life on the edge by going after yellows and oranges. It's all up to how you want to play it. Also as I implied above there are three levels of mobs; regular, signature, and elite. Regulars are normal and most common, signatures are a bit harder but you an solo a even level, don't go after an elite solo is the best advice.
The first ten levels are cake unless you go after oranges, then it gets progressivly more difficult. Gives you a chance to learn your class that way.
I miss DAoC
This will appeal to both casual and the more hardcore gamers. With five characters per server to play around with you can do alot of things with just a short amount of time to play or you can spend alot of time in the tougher areas working on quest sequences.
Also, you'll find that both solo and in groups your class makes a big difference in how the tough and easy stuff plays out for you. Very different experience with your various characters.
If you are a hardcore player go to get Vanguard.
Recommend V:SoH to you.
LotRO is going to be heavy RP, but easier than EQ2.
LotRO is much closer to WoW in spirit than it is to EQ2.
Good Luck.
There is nothing hardcore(challenging) about LOTRO. Also anyone who classifies raiding in general as hardcore, is mistaken, since accomplishing goals with the help of many is easier than doing so by yourself. If you mean hardcore as in time invested per week, that can apply to any playstyle including soloing. I would be a hardcore soloer under either description since I play often and want to be challenged.
LOTRO is very much a WoW type game. "Easy" sums it up.
And Vanguard does not appeal to me even though I am hardcore, because it is raid centric and solo unfriendly, so don't assume Vanguard satisfies all hardcore gamers.

You got that right, Jack Dog. The game can be as hard as you want by the mobs you choose to fight.
I've had my butt handed to me on a platter many times by those elite mobs in the Greater Barrows.... OUCH! And I wasn't even trying to solo them.

They maded it harder to level the last patch which you really noticed higher up and maybe they tweak it some more.

Speaking as someone who was in FoH in EQ1 (those of you who actually PLAYED the game know who we are) I will say this:
LotRO is absolutely an easier game than EQ1 was. I will also state that it is very casual friendly. However to say that a hardcore player won't enjoy it is foolish. I enjoy the heck out of LOTR:O myself, as do many of my friends who are in beta.
Is it going to have the high end raids that EQ1 did? Currently no... I actualy hope it never does. LOTR is a game that is supposed to feel like you are in middle earth. I enjoy the heck out of it. But as to 'difficulty'? I found WoW easier to master
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

Still in: A couple Betas
LOTRO is a great game and I have been in BETA for a long time now and I have enjoyed many of the adventures Turbine has created.
In regards to it being easier than WoW, I think it depends on how you look at it.
The game itself plays just like WoW... but that shouldn't be a negative thing. I mean just about every FPS out there plays the same, sure they each have their UI tweaks and skill tweaks but they still play the same. Developers for both genres found a way that works and so they use it. It's a smart marketing move, when you sit down to play Half-Life 2 and then pick up Prey you know exactly what to do and how the controls work. Same thing for MMO's. Since A TON of people play WoW doesn't it make sense then to model your game after it so when they move over from WoW they can pick it right up and start to play? No learning curve means they can get engrossed in your game even sooner.... but I digress... I am getting off subject.
Since we have established LOTRO plays the same it's safe to assume the game is going to be on par with its difficulty, but where I think LOTRO is a bit tougher is in PC skill management and variety. This game has so many skills for each class. Unlike WoW where you get a small number of skills and you have to level them up at trainers, in LOTRO your skills level with you. No need to relearn the same skills over and over. This has allowed Turbine to incorporate more skills and more combat possibilities. When you PUG in LOTRO it is really easy to tell who *gets* this game and who doesn't. The people who have figured out the skills and analyze their tactics use all their skills and can time them perfectly, and believe me there are a ton to sift through. The people who don't get it do the same attack over and over or set off an AOE when you’re fighting one trash mob.
So is this game easy for hardcore players? No more than WoW I think. But I think it will challenge hardcore gamers in new ways. It will really force you to get to know your class even more than WoW. The questing is pretty similar, PVMP is really unique and will probably even get non-PvP players, like me, addicted to it. Plus Turbine hasn't even opened up their raid content so we don't know what that is like yet. Crafting it also a possibility but it still needs a few tweaks.
That's the thing that really bothers me when some companies are making games from books or movies, they tend to be geared towards casual player and to make loads of cash... I really want to play something more challenging, something where you have to do hard work like in DAoC and EQ. I don't want to solo all my way to level cap or group so that you just invite some random guys to your group and disband after one particular quest.
Just my thoughts though, I guess that people will disagree...
"I actually cook my meat with nothing but my burning hatred for vegetables"
Vanguard tried to launch as a "challenging" game but it is still debatable whether the game is a success or a failure.
In my opinion, hardcore games will be a niche market and investors will be very wary to place money on a niche market. Not a criticism but just a reality (imo) of marketing forces.
LOTRO on the other hand is great for everyone. It doesn't have the raid type stuff that you might find in WoW, yet, but it will, hopefully
It's also not a grind and chore to play, which is what Vanguard is. If you want a second job, where you have to play, go to Vanguard.
I played DAoC and EQ, both for quite some time. The hard work in those games was grinding levels, gear and whatnot and camping mobs. I just don't find that kind of gaming fun anymore, especially after playing LOTRO.
Turbine has shown me how to really enjoy playing an MMO. It's so much more than levels and grinding!

Very good point. I absolutely agree.
