Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Double check if you attempted to cancel your subscription.

My VG subscription was due to end (1 month sub) on 4 Mar; thus, I made certain to go to my account page at station.sony.com well before that time (about a week) and edit my subscription - then selected Cancel Subscription and got a comback screen that said something like "You subscription has been cancelled.  Thank you for your patronage."  No problem, thinks I.

Today (5 Mar), I double check to ensure my sub is cancelled - log in to my station account, check subscriptions...and see that my VG subscription was renewed for another month.

I didn't log in from the day I cancelled to the day I checked the account status.  I was on a one month recurring sub plan.  I cancelled well in advance of the end date of my current billing month.  I got that nice little comeback screen after cancelling that said my sub was cancelled (oddly enough, no little poll asking me why I was cancelling...just a "thanks anyway").  In my opinion, I did everything right in order to cancel my account.

Sigh.  I just spent about 30mins waiting on the phone for a sony account rep.  He basically told me "tough break" and that they couldn't refund me the month I've just been charged in advance for.  Losing the 15$ is not a huge deal - it's the principal of the matter.  I've never had this problem with any other MMO (at least one that wasn't handled by SOE).

You would think I had learned my lesson when (ages ago) I attempted to cancel my SWG subscription...I beleive the same thing happened to me then (suppose I must have flushed those nasty memories).

BOTTOM LINE:  Double check via a phone call, live chat, email, or by holding payment to SOE on your cc if you attempt to cancel your subscription.

Goodbye SOE games.

I canceled my MXO subscription before. . .twice actually and everything was fine.  I had a friend that canceled his and he still got charged like you, so I don't know what happened there. . .I would actually put the blame on you guys.

Unless I am favoured by the gods. . .I don't think you did something right. . .

Nevertheless, a good threat to call the BBB can usually get things in your favor.

When I canceled my EQII account back in October last year when I clicked cancel and it sent me to the SOE account page where it wanted me to enter my ~secret word~ but that is another story. Bottom line is you need to check your SOE account page. Anyway for the OP call your credit card company and dispute the charge if SOE wants to hassle you about it.

ALLWAYS check for a Confimation Email , if you don't get one  try canceling again ...till you do

You should be able to dispute the charges via your credit card company, having made a good-faith effort to contact SOE about your issue and not receiving satisfaction.

You had a good idea to cancel early to avoid any issues, but it's always a good practice to double-check when canceling a subscription.

    worked slightly differently for me.

Cancelled my Vanguard account, and it magically cancelled my station access account.

Which is fine, saved me sitting on the fence over it.

    Thanks Sony

I think you are correct.  The OP should call his credit card and see if they can help him.

SALVEO ... if you didn't use a credit card then call your local Better Business Bureau, &/or state's Attorney General's office.  If you indeed used your credit card then call your credit card company along with the BBB &/or AG's office.  Although you may be tempted to go ahead & play your EQ3/Vanguard account do NOT.  Sigil/SOE might use that against you by showing you have gone ahead & played it pass the subscription date therefore invalidating your dispute.  If I remember correctly it's the San Diego BBB for the SOE, but I'm not sure about for Sigil & which would serve best in this case.  Good luck to you & don't give-up on it because you'll win eventually.  Seems a bit more deceit from Sigil/SOE for Vanguard's sake or just a simple process glitch, just strange it never happens when it's positive for the consumer.

    Goodbye SOE games.
    Yup, same thing for me.

I clicked Cancel many times, but the Account Status showed as Active. So I chatted with someone and they confirmed it's cancelled after being gone for about 3 minutes.

It now shows as cancelled. Had I not checked on it I'm sure I would have been billed.

Yeah, the hole story blows. Back when MxO trial was first out, a lot of people "accidentally" subscribed. The screen we received after activating the trial key asked us to input some CC info, which led to subscription. I didn't get conned, but at least 150-200 people I know of did.

Combine unprofessionalism of Sigil, Brad's lack of talent  and SOE, and you have a game that was hyped to dethrone WoW. This is so funny.

Upon seeing this thread I nervously rushed over to check my account status at Sony Station. I had had problems getting my account to close during the trial period, about two weeks ago. Despite numerous attempts, it never was updated until I sent an e-mail to support. Thankfully, it's still closed today.

After reading about the problems others have had with SOE and my little billing issue, on top of some tech problems with their support site, I've lost most of my confidence in that company. They could host the greatest MMO the world has ever seen and I'd still be very reluctant to give them more of my money.

Call your credit card company and do a charge back on the item as non authorized.  Just be careful though because they WILL try and charge it your card again after the CC refunds you your payment.  They did this to me when I cancelled SWG, charged back the payment and they processed it again.  That time I did not catch it in time to do the charge back, noticed it 60 days after the fact.

No one accidentally subscribed silly, It was the fact the credit cards had been authorized for 14.95 to test the systems and a bunch of people blew it out of proportion. SOE didn't have anything to do with MxO back then it was owned by WB.

People love blowing stuff out of proportion like SOE not letting you unsubscribe, seems most of us don't have a problem. These are the same people buying canned goods and cases of water bottles in December of 1999 due to the great 2000 comming.
