I just don't trust these devs blindly. They talk like Sigil, and Sigil enforce raiding in Vanguard. And that isn't a good comparaison for anyone to be compared to Sigil.
I thought Sigil was promising revolutionary and innovative next gen mmo... and that Turbine never promised anything like that, that they promised 'only' a solid and properly working game
that's quite different don't you think?
so, what's the similarity between Sigil and Turbine?
there will be 5 paths to end-game items. Crafting is one. Dont wanna raid..NEVER HAVE TO. YOU NEVER HAVE TO in order to get the goods. I usually agree with your stance. But you are wrong on this one.
If 6 months after release the "uber associations" give me the same feedback, I will try LotRO, however, I am pretty sure there is a catch, they will enforce raiding in a way or another. Guilty until proven otherwise when raiding is concerned. Sigil also said that it is only "optional", while in fact, the only optional part in Sigil raiding is comon sense and good tastes, you have to raid in Vanguard.

There was also a massive billing debacle with the developers behind Realms of Torment/Mourning, but I never heard about one with Turbine, and I've been playing Turbine games since Asheron's Call 1 (read: their first game). Their GMs were always extremely helpful in AC1 and they were in AC2 as well (they had a special name, but I can't remember what it was).
For me, LOTRO is a fine game. The story really pulled me in at first, but then somewhere around level 12 or 15, I just stopped caring. Not sure why, exactly, but I did.
It will definitely appeal to some. It's polished, beautiful, and plays very nicely. Just didn't hold my interest.
EDIT: Should be noted, though, that I will fervently follow Turbine's next entry into the market. I still believe they have it in them to do something amazing, like they did with Asheron's Call. It's amazing how much could be done in 1999 that still hasn't been echoed in 8 years. Nobody has created a seamless, stunning world like Dereth since then, with skill-based mechanics and open character development. I don't understand why, except that AC wasn't exactly a knock-it-out-of-the-park stellar hit.

Turbines said that raiding is optional, raiding we go ho ho ho...or something like that. And they said that soloing will give smaller rewards in the same message, ask Boromir. (so if soloing give lesser rewards, am I to assume that raiding will grant better reward in the same mentality?)
Now if you don't see the parallel and the similitudes between Sigil and Turbines...but saying soloers will lack at the same time you say there will be raiding = errrr, ain't that Sigil vision? I actually don't care much that soloers are good or lack, I am a grouper. Yet...if they shaft soloers, they can shaft groupers as well, can't they?
"Alternates paths", won't believe them until I see clear proof they ain't lying or not understanding the words they are speaking. Many casuals don't understand what "alternatives path" and "enforcements" are in endgame...and I tend to think that Turbines staff is quite casual, which is good, as long as they don't reproduce Sigils mistakes.

Its pretty clear from your posts here that you hate raiding, and you are leary of playing LotRO because they probably are going to encourage (if not enforce raiding) to get the best gear. (I know, they say they won't...but I understand your distrust)
But w/o raiding, I was just wondering what sort of end game you think LotRO or any other sort of game should have? It can't follow the DAOC/WAR route with upper level Pvp...so what sort of content would you prefer? (I'm curious because I've yet to find a game with an endgame I like besides DAOC)
You can take it out to another thread if your reply really wouldn't be appropriate to the OP'S original request for Like/Dislike comparisions.

I don't care for anything else and look elsewhere, their game is dead before even hitting the shelves.
You mean to say that World of warcraft was dead before it hit the shelves? wow...i wonder how many subs it would have if it was successfull.
I hate these boneheaded comments.
WoW was dead FOR ME before even hitting the shelves.
I hate when peoples can't read. Read the guy ask why FOR YOU, as an individual...of course, I will speak, for me. The only boneheaded thing around is your inability to understand that for me, this is game breaking. Raiding enforced in anyway, is game breaking and killing the game for many players. A majority? Nope, but more than the amount of peoples who actually enjoy raiding. Everytime you see a player enjoying raiding significantly, consider that at least 2 other players hate this enough to cancel subscribtion/never buy the game. And the majority doesn't care either way.
To all peoples saying I am wrong about LotRO and raiding. I will wait. If what you say is right, then I will apologize and try the game after it hit the shelves for a few months. I just don't trust these devs blindly. They talk like Sigil, and Sigil enforce raiding in Vanguard. And that isn't a good comparaison for anyone to be compared to Sigil.
I hate when people can't read. Read the post that said Turbine will NOT be FORCING raids. They are there for those who like raids. They are also not big raids. And like many others have said you can get just as good items other ways.
EDIT: Ano, have you even played LotRO yet? If not then don't be making stupid comments about the game.

Let start off by saying that I think theLotRO world/maps were brilliantly designed. The scenery is lovely.
In my oppinion, that is the only thing well done in LotRO.
Every other aspect of LotRO is mediocre at best. Poor character models, with animations that are not fluid at all do not look right in such a pretty game world. Clothes and equipment are not flashy or cool looking. The books talked of fantastic mithril armors, glowing weapons such as sting, horn of gondor, elf made camoflauge cloaks, elven jewelry. I see nothing on the characters in LotRO that makes me think this is a game about middle-earth. Hell, I think there were 3 movies that this game could have used as inspiration to make the characters look like they are from middle-earth. Peter Jackson did a better job capturing the feel of middle earth than this game did.
Questing, grouping, combat, PvMP, and crafting are all sub par to other games. There is noting about LotRO that is an improvement. Also, people keep saying this is a well polished game. My LotRO client crashes 3-5 times a day. I see major gameplay glitches, crashbugs, loading screens failing to load, voip communication where I can hear two seperate group communications (past group and current group), minimap failing to appear, and quest npcs without a ring indicator on the minimap or over thier head. This game is beta I understand... but do not claim that this game is polished for a beta. It is very buggy.
Don't get me started on Monster Play. It is a joke. Ettenmoors is one zone where monsters and players battle for controll of 5 forts. Sure it sounds fun to play a monster right? It is fun to paly a monster that is by design weaker than player characters. You need 2 to 3 times the ammount of monster players to win a fight against players. Monsterplayer skills last 1/3 the duration of player characters. We stun or root them for 10 seconds while htey stun or root us for 30 seconds. Yeah thats fun. Monster players have to buy expensive tracking potions that only give a vague red dot on the map with no way to actually attack a stealthed player character. PvMP is not a PvP zone. The battles always happen around NPCs that end up doing all the fighting. Monsterplay is poorly designed and executed. It feels very much like the afterthough solution to pvp that it is. Just an afterthought.
Other than a pretty game world... there is nothing about LotRO that inspires me to play it.

Actually I didn't find it that hard to kill players as a monster, although I can understand where you're coming from. I do find it much weaker to play as a mosnter character, although when you upgrade them it helps a lot. Especially their stats.

As far as "raiding" goes in LoTRo, the only raids I have been apart of have been in the ettenmoors (the pvp zone). There was a huge war the other night at the hobbit village. A HUGE amount of fun, the kind of which I haven't really experienced since early days of wow on a pvp server (Southshore vs whatever the horde town is Tarren Mill I think?) or the old Bestine vs Anchorhead wars in early swg.
