Yeah so I have been playing MMORPG's since maybe I was 14-15, and Everquest, was by far the best game. I started playing pre-velious, and I just loved the sense of team work and community in the game. I loved the balanced system between classes and the decent pros/cons to each race. I mostly enjoyed how so many people worked together in guilds to go on dungeon raids and play a different role to get nice pieces of armor and weapons, killing insane named MOBs and trying to get that rare drop for one of there own.
Anyway once they came out with shadows of luclin, and then practically everyday a new expansion came out, i just think it became over whelming, and pointless, and lost that old sense of familiarity that made the game fun.
i am planning on getting WoW soon, because it looks really fun, i have a cousin who used to play EQ with me who plays that now.
Until I get WoW, which may not be a while, I wanna play a free MMORPG with an Everquest sense to it. It doesnt have to be the exact same thing, just looking for something kind of like it. Mainly, looking for the availability to go on 24+ man raids (atleast) with everyone having roles like Main Tank, Puller, Healers, Damage Doers, Nukers, Buffers, etc. And a strong n00b friendly community. Lots of race/class/armor/weapon depth would also be nice. Any recommendation would be f*cking awesome.. thanks

Anarchy Online is Free / Free.
Free to Download the Client.
Free to play.
Only need to subscribe if you like the game and want to go to the newer areas.
although it does have extreme levels of character customization in terms of gear, skills, etc. while WOW definately does not...
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

is there anything more fantasy? and more n00b friendly?

At this point, you have a choice of several ill concieved fits: Shadowbane, or one of the endless very low quality MMOs such as Silkroad Online.
P.S. I am having an extremely hard time believing you are 26 years old, care to explain?

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

your profile says 26 - but your multiple posting on same topic, and what you say suggest your are unlikely to be much older than 10-12
I'm an EQ vet too, played that shit all through high school. I went right to Shadowbane after EQ went to shit. It's free now, and if you can overlook the dated graphics, abyssmal PvE content and low server populations, the end game raiding (which is mostly against player cities now, but there are some end game monster raids i think) is pretty fun
Shadowbane does have a few large PvE raids, but the main part of the endgame is wrapped around the massive PvP sieges, which tend to have a lot of tactics involved. The trick is getting into the right guild.
Silkroad Online, I'm afraid not. Its a solo Korean grindfest, actually pretty decent for its type, but still.

LOL. I like this guy!
Uh I think your best bet would either be AO (which you already said isn't what you want), Silkroad Online, or Rappelz(which i've tried). I prefer Rappelz out of these, but it is very grindy.
