To be honest with you, im partially serious, even if my comment was in jest.
SWG had 400 000 subs at once point, im sure that faded fast, but that was a big number for mmo's around the time. The original everquest is still alive, they had half a million subs. And they had other games to compete with at one point like UO, AO, DAOC, yet they still maintained their sub base.
Im just saying, that no matter how many blunders they make. There must be some trick they pull off to keep people coming back to failure of games. Even if its a few hundread thousand, its still a huge success, considering their reputation.
Look at EQ 2, over 250 000 subs. So in all these screw ups, there must be something that makes people go back. I cant explain it, can you? Maybe just maybe, despite the flaws some of these games arent as horrible as they make it out to be? Everquest 2 is a decent game i wont deny that, and i think SOE sucks balls.

i can appreciate your reasoning for hating SOE...it truely sucks whats happened to SWG. BUT. Everquest 2 is a good game, and for those of us who truely ARE sick of playing wow and eq2 for what 2 years now, and want something new and cutting edge that follow the same lines as those games b4 it, dont really have alot of options. VG is the ONLY game out there right now that is attempting to tackle such a open ended massive world. its way far from perfect ill admit, but as i said, show me another game? AoC? not interested, too much pvp....WAR? not interested too much pvp....LoTR? maybe, but still no where as open ended as VG. so for me to NOT play this game because of what SOE has done to a totally different game is just irrelevant. Hating something b4 you try it has already made your mind up and it sucks that ill end up suffering in-game because of misdirected animosity.

The rest of Sony's divisions are completely separate, and Joe Blow buying a Sony tv at Best Buy has no clue what Everquest, Vanguard, or SWG is, in all likelihood, nor does he care as long as his tv works. As far as the CE and the 90 Station Players thing. Caveat Emptor. It's less than forthright, but no different than any of the other advertising I see on tv or in print on a daily basis. Anyone one that bought it, and just assumed it meant one thing, when it was, in fact, another gets 0 sympathy. Maybe next time they'll be a little bit smarter when they purchase something.
When I worked for Qwest Telecom, they ran, and still do, commercials stating you could get high speed DSL for $24.99 a month. Now in the fine print, it says you need to have a qualifying home phone package to get that price, otherwise it was $31.99 for a 1.5 meg connection. Everyone, and I mean everyone, assumed the price was just 24.99. Never read the fine print, or any print at all for that matter. Then there were the people that thought that the price was for the 7 meg DSL, or were all pissed off because it just wasn't available at all in their particular area.
All the other telecoms are the same way. People would tell me how Vonage had such better prices. Until I went over the fine print for the Vonage internet deal. Then there was the guy trying to tell me we were ripping people off because Netzero offered "high speed" internet for $10 a month. That is, until I read him the specifics of what it was they were calling high speed.
Simply put, most people are just plain stupid consumers. seeing as i too am a SWG refugee the one thing we can both agree on then is that startrek is going to be the answers to our prayers....hopefully.
There's another thread on these forums where someone wrote the words on the special edition box had been changed. They said they spoke to someone somewhere, I believe it was the game itself and the person said it was a printers error or something to that affect. If this be true and who's to say it didn't happen? Remember this is soe you're talking about, with them anything is possible.
It's possible the wording had first stated it was 90 days free play which was then changed to something else due to according to the game, "a word error".
jesus, if you read "90 days free" on a collectors edition which you pay a lot of money for, what do you expect of it? of course you except to have 90 days free playtime... if you try to rip your customers off like that, sooner or later you get the bill... instead of making them happy, you make them angry and push them away, I just dont understand that, because in the long-term you simply piss them off... what kind of advantages do you have by treating your customers like that? sorry but I just dont understand it...

No one thing is better than another, it's all about personal perspective. Give people enough room to hang themselves and let it go; move on. I've been happily living in the noose of SWG for three years. That's my choice. The best game is the one that makes you happy. Doesn't matter if it has one race and no quests and costs 500 euros a month to play.

Such as servers going down for more than the allocated server maintenance, you get extra days etc
Simple things like this & more which SONY wont give u feck all even if the server goes down for a whole day!
Remember SWG & the bria server which was down for a whole 2 weeks!!!
No refund no extra account days added or feck all...All they got was a half baked excuse & an unsincere apology!

SOE has a shitty rep. The rest of Sony's divisions are completely separate, and Joe Blow buying a Sony tv at Best Buy has no clue what Everquest, Vanguard, or SWG is, in all likelihood, nor does he care as long as his tv works. I'd wager he'd just stare blankly if you mentioned the rootkit to him, too.
As far as the CE and the 90 Station Players thing. Caveat Emptor. It's less than forthright, but no different than any of the other advertising I see on tv or in print on a daily basis. Anyone one that bought it, and just assumed it meant one thing, when it was, in fact, another gets 0 sympathy. Maybe next time they'll be a little bit smarter when they purchase something.
When I worked for Qwest Telecom, they ran, and still do, commercials stating you could get high speed DSL for $24.99 a month. Now in the fine print, it says you need to have a qualifying home phone package to get that price, otherwise it was $31.99 for a 1.5 meg connection. Everyone, and I mean everyone, assumed the price was just 24.99. Never read the fine print, or any print at all for that matter. Then there were the people that thought that the price was for the 7 meg DSL, or were all pissed off because it just wasn't available at all in their particular area.
All the other telecoms are the same way. People would tell me how Vonage had such better prices. Until I went over the fine print for the Vonage internet deal. Then there was the guy trying to tell me we were ripping people off because Netzero offered "high speed" internet for $10 a month. That is, until I read him the specifics of what it was they were calling high speed.

There's another thread on these forums where someone wrote the words on the special edition box had been changed. They said they spoke to someone somewhere, I believe it was the game itself and the person said it was a printers error or something to that affect. If this be true and who's to say it didn't happen? Remember this is soe you're talking about, with them anything is possible.
It's possible the wording had first stated it was 90 days free play which was then changed to something else due to according to the game, "a word error".

I gave it a fair try m8 like 70% of the ppl who played it the gave it a big thumbs down

seeing as i too am a SWG refugee the one thing we can both agree on then is that startrek is going to be the answers to our prayers....hopefully. I read somewhere that the next SOE thing is going to be publishing.
I also heard on a podcast that SOE WAS considering publishing STO.

No disrespect m8 but seriously if you feel that R.K is doing good things i would say then you better try V:SoH don't be blinded by the hate towards the game made by people that probebly not able to either play the game on their system or they keep bringing up old news about things already fixed ingame, do i say V:SoH is perfect, nope it is not perfect but it does bring the MMORPG back to the place MMORPG should be, sorry my standards are high for a MMORPG kinda the reason why i like V:SoH that much. If i didn't care much for MMORPG then i just would go and play regular MMO's like WOW wich is still a fun game just not a MMORPG. Play V;SoH and make your own opinion unless you are unable to make your own opinion, i doubt that so be a man and don't folow the crowed , make your own opinion based on your own experiance, don't become a blind sheep that follows the herd, if your experiance should you that the game wasn't for you then that okay and nothing wrong that after trying something you still don't like it, but atleast give it a change befoe you make statements not based on any experiance. Highlighted the pertinent bits. And the cycle starts all over again. People screaming to high heavens about how they rested all their hopes and dreams on the altar of Vanguard, and mean old Sigil and SOE took em, and stomped on them. Then they make some post about how game X that's gonna release Any Day Now(c) is gonna be perfection incarnate, and it's gonna be everything they ever dreamed about. Until it releases, and they're back here screaming about how it doesn't live up to the hype, and yet again, they've been ripped off, blah, blah, blah.

I have played SoE games since 1999. SoE has never “cheated” me nor have they “lied to my face” about anything. Have they had plans for games that never came to fruition? Sure. Just like I have had plans for family vacations that, unfortunately, did not pan out. Does that make me a “liar” and a “cheat?”
If you hate SoE so much, stay away from their products. It really is that simple. However, your apparent need to come here and “warn” everyone about SoE simply makes you look ridiculous.

I don't really like VG, and won't buy it, but I agree with Synexis as far as SOE and the SOE hatebois.I'll try to make it clear for you:
No one thing is better than another, it's all about personal perspective. Give people enough room to hang themselves and let it go; move on. I've been happily living in the noose of SWG for three years. That's my choice. The best game is the one that makes you happy. Doesn't matter if it has one race and no quests and costs 500 euros a month to play.
