You cannot play the game, as it's still in development.
The servers are refering to the combat prototype, which is a small, standalone game placed in the Infinity universe, and plays a bit like an arena-based team-deathmatch multiplayer game. It's not very deep but can be fun for a few hours, especially when there are many players online:
Yeah you can play a prototype of the combat part of the game. Remember this is not necessairily how it will be but it is a good presentation of the engine so far. Get your hopes up
The combat prototype is already a very fun game in its own right, and regularly gets a good number of players online. There were six on the US server I was playing on last night.
Even if you connect to the server and find no other players online, don't disconnect straight away, there are a few things you can occupy yourself with until another player comes online. You can explore the tunnels in the asteroid, try your hand at mining or just work out the best tactics for attacking the AI controlled capital ships.

I have played the simulator loads and I already consider it one of my regular games even though its not the real game.
At first I was really frustrated with dying every 10 seconds. However I realised you live a lot long if you stay near your own Battleship and do sweeping attacks on nearby enemy. I love it now because I realise its not realistic having a frigate take on a Battleship 1 on 1 and winning. I feel the whole point will be for players to have a large squadron to take down large ships like a BS. I for one can't wait to be part of a 10-20 strong squadron attacking a Battleship with its own wingmen. Pure bliss.

I just found out about this game.
Does anyone have any screenshots or a movie of the gameplay in the Combat Prototype?

I'm sure that's gonna be worked out and fixed. Don't get your hopes up.
