Thinking about coming back to WoW...

Phatty001Phatty001 Member Posts: 28
I've been on a break from WoW for about 8 months, just wanna check up on the game and see if anything changed.

Couple of questions I have:

1. Can you play without Burning Crusades?

2. How's the new PvP system?

3. Has PvP improved?

4. Any nerfs I need to know about?(I have two toons that I;m thinking about leveling to 60, a lvl 43 hunter and lvl 39 rogue)

5. Does blizzard still offer server transfers for overpopulated servers?

Any help would be great! happy

  • I don't play WoW anymore, but I like to keep up on the forum chatter.

From what I can tell the PvP is generally considered to have gotten slightly worse.  The arena is new and there are the rewards, but World PvP is deader than dead.  2 shots are even more common rather than less like Blizzard had promised.  49 and lower is about the same and is still fun.  60+ is dominated by Arena and  does not seem to be considered balanced or even particularly great, the BGs are hit or miss depending on the Battle group and have not had an itemization upgrade/upkeep.  I

Alright let me save you some time...I jumped on WoW soon after launch.   I thought it was the greatest game ever (aside from the graphics)..the gameplay was unmatched...after I hit 60 and got some of..what is now called Dungeon Set 1 (rogue shadowcraft set) the game was wearing thin and i decided to quit. Couldn't handle doing the same instance over and over again. After about a year I got wind of the Burning Crusade expansion.  2 new races, new continent and level cap so on and so forth..awesome right?...it sure is for the hardcore wow fan who traded in their RL for their avatar.

I came back 4 months prior to BC launch and geared up, got back in touch with friends and so forth.  The game finally had meaning again.  I was in line for BC at the midnight release and on it all night.  I leveled to 65 after a week and realized it was exactly the same repetitve and easy  gameplay.  Some of the new quests were awesome, and of course you had the old collect so many "blank", kill so many "blank"thrown in.  Very soon I was losing interest and realizing why i left it in the first place.  If you loved WoW before you quit..it might be worth grindin to 70 and trying out the new instances..but all in all..the game stays repetitive and simple.  So it really depends on how you yourself felt about the game..if you want 10 lvls of fun go for it..but once you hit 70 and wear it out a bit..you'll be looking for more.  Because hitting that new level cap wasn't much different than hitting the lvl 60 cap..awesome at first then very very boring.   So IMHO..save your money and your time.

Yeah, you can play without it.  In fact theres no reason to own it until you hit 58 unless 1. you want to try out one of the new races or b. you want to try out jewelcrafting.

    2. How's the new PvP system?

It's tons easier to save up points and get the regular PvP gear now.  The top end PvP ger is no longer restricted to shut ins, yay.  World PvP is as dead as it's always been on regular servers.  They have at least added world PvP objectivs in some zones, you can occiasionally get som action that way.

    3. Has PvP improved?

See above.  There are a lot more PvP options than there were before, but the style of it hasn't changed much.  It's still mainly about burst damage.

    4. Any nerfs I need to know about?(I have two toons that I;m thinking about leveling to 60, a lvl 43 hunter and lvl 39 rogue)

Hunters went through an odd change.  They upped the base DPS on all missle weapons, and then cut the ATP you get from agility in half.  Devs claimed that you should about break even, and that does seem to be the case.  Paets now get stat bonuses based on the gear that you have, and they aree notibly butcher now then they were before the change.  So net, you'll find your hunter is probably a little beetter than you remember.

Can't think of any huge changes to rogues, but then I've never played on past 20.

    5. Does blizzard still offer server transfers for overpopulated servers?

Yes., but they open and close the free transfers pretty much at random (just like before).

One other random piece of advice.  If you get a toon to 58, run to a store grab TBC, install it, and run through that portal screaming.  You don't want to fart around in the old world for your last two levels, it's a complete waste now.  Mobs in the outlands give roughly twice the XP per kill, and sic gear comes very easilly from quests out there.   Also, if you are into world PvP, you have to go to the outlands ot relaibly find any (there are world PvP objectives there that let you save up marks for insanely butch gear, thus there is usually someone working on the objectives).

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

    1. Can you play without Burning Crusades?
If you want to be jewelcrafter, Dranei, Blood Elf or got a lvl 58+ character u need it. Otherways, no.

    2. How's the new PvP system
It was a bit easy to get ur GM/HW epics when u were lvl 60, but blizzard has nicely fixed it on lvl 70. Imo it's by far better than the old as u can just buy the pieces u need and u don't have to hardcore farm all the time to get them. Really good.

    3. Has PvP improved?
Not sure what to answer. How does PvP improve really? The PvP is good, it's some outdoor PvP in outlands as nearly every area has a PvP objective. There's also a new BG for lvl 61+, Eye Of The Storm.

    4. Any nerfs I need to know about?(I have two toons that I;m thinking about leveling to 60, a lvl 43 hunter and lvl 39 rogue)
    2.0.10 Patchnotes
. Here is the latest patch was applied. Rogues are pretty imba now, as they have cloak of shadows (learnt at lvl 66, +90% resistance against all spells) and deadly throw (some sort of skill that's ranged, very useful against casters).

Hunters are pretty imba. They are pretty much the same when it comes to skills and so, but they got a boost before TBC and are pretty imba, if u can play them.

    5. Does blizzard still offer server transfers for overpopulated servers?
They have a free migration now, meaning that u can freely transfer from nearly any server to nearly any other server. The transfer may only be done every 6th month and costs around 20$.
