Brad just cannot seem to figure out why people are not buying/subscribing. His latest post on his vision, the double exp weeks, and the numbers on the VG Players site pretty much shows that the game is turning out to be a giant flop. Right now they have a game in cardiac arrest and they are desperately throwing out double exp weekends and nerf this , no we need to boost that , no no no you gotta nerf this "fixes" to try and get it's heart beating again. It may survive, but the server merges and free trials are not far off now.

Thats one opinion from someone who DOESN'T play the game.
On the other hand my guild is steadily growing, the european server I am on has masses of players, never seems empty even on a game this size and the newbie areas have more than 40+ players (/who does only first 40).
Play the game if you want a REAL opinion.

you are right I do not play the game, I beta tested it for about six months and knew what a losing proposition it was to buy it so I did not. Just looking at the patch notes, posts, desperate attempts to retain subscriptions, and fanboy posts trying to defend the game tells me I made the right decision.  "just say no to bad games" Anyway it is not a opinion that the game only has 65 K characters above level 15, that can be easily proved using their own numbers over at VG players. Few are buying, few are playing.

Fine if you dont like the game but CONSTANTLY posting on the VG forum that its crap doesn't make it so for all the players who enjoy it.
I don't like quite a lot of games on this site but you don't see me posting every 5 minutes how bad "such and such" a game is, especially when I tried them and don't play them any more.

It's an opinion board, get over it. I suppose maybe they should have made a official site where only subscribers could have posted.

I wish you would get over VG...

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

    Hi Angry Vanboy.

People badmouth VG because they have reason to do so,

Because they payed for a beta game. Because the collectors edition said 100 days free! and Sigil lied. Because the game isn't playable. Because the game crashes constantly. Because it's boring. Because some servers are deserted. ETC.

If you don't like opinions, don't read the bloody forums then.

I am happy, in all my honesty, because in this case people turned out to be mature, at least the better part of people.

Here is a product (note : ever since MMOs are mainstream, they constitute an industry, making every mmo out there but a product) that is substandard. Yes, there is a standard in polish and in game design, and the genre is evolving. Not only is Brad stuck in a moment in the past making his creation a product of the past, but it's also sub par when it comes to playability.

All in all, the costumers have spoken, and we said "we don't eat sh*t". I hope VG becomes a real big flop, and designers from the day forward shall pay attention to our needs, keep promises, and give us the respect we deserve!

    Majorly blew it.

I cancelled just before update #1 because of the state of the game.  For whatever reason, I decided to give it one more month and try out the update.  Big mistake.  I have seen very few improvments, but I've certainly felt a lot of nerfs to my favorite classes.  It just doesn't make sense.  When your playerbase is putting up with performance issues and bugs, you don't go out of your way to throw in nerfs on top of everything else.  Are they trying to push people away?  At least in my case, they did.  I promptly cancelled again.  I will keep an eye on the forums though and see what happens with this turd of a game.  If we're lucky, maybe Brad will step aside and someone who knows how to produce and run a MMO from this decade will take over.

In terms of expectations then yes, they blew it.

In terms of survival then no, I do think the game will survive.

They just need a defibrilator rigth about now, and I can think of 2 things that would go a long way.

    1. Disable the tombstone system until it is FIXED and servers are stable, many of the REALLY major issues is linked to this, lost items and lost levels due to krashing game and krashing servers not to mention lost tombstones, there would be no need for XP weekends if this were the case.

Why give double XP for past transgressions when said transgressions could have easily been avoided?

    2. Crafting is horrendous imho, the most frustrating system ever created.

Nothing I do seems to influence anything, it is just dumb luck and allthough I do not ask for picture perfect realism but a system that at least resembled believable would be nice, anyone who worked like this system functions in real life would be unemployed.

Dumb luck take 2, the people who have been putting up with it and migth even enjoy it is left to another luck factor, upgrade recipies.

Making crafting pointless and frustrating to most people who were supposed to do it for fun and and making it boil down to dumb luck for those who do it as a living and really need them recipies to compete is so illogical it would make Spock shoot himself.

Keep in mind these are my opinions and observations and may or may not be equal to yours.

I feel that they have blown it, but only for now. They might be able to recover, but will never do as well had they never messed up in the first place.

It is similar to EQ2. That game is honestly pretty good right now (though I am not playing it due to various non-game issues), but it had a fairly unimpressive launch (technically it was fine, the gameplay was just meh). However, it has fixed itself and is now not doing too badly. Of course, had it been this good from the start it would not have alienated so many players.

Vanguard, unfortunately, has a had a launch many, many times worse as a lot of issues are not even gameplay, but technical ones, too.

Yes, I think they blew it. You only have one chance to make a first impression. No matter how good the game gets in the future people are always going to remember the way it was at release. Unfinished, unpolished and buggy is what people will remember even if Brad and Sigil turns it all around and Vanguard becomes a WoW beater.  That's just the way of the world. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression. There is no tomorrow if you can't impress people today. Sounds a little cliche-ish but it's true.

I am a fan of SoE, but this is a perfect time to blame the publisher 100%.  The money this game cost to make giving it a few more months of testing would not have broken the bank.  SoE and other publishers need to learn ALOT from Blizzard, and I mean ALOT. Blizzard is know for delaying their games and content.  That's because they know how much money they have to gain by having the best reputation of releasing finished solid games.  THIS is why their games blow up, and Vanguard got blown up.  If SoE can't handle the pressures of the mmorpg biz I think they should get the F out.

I agree.  And Sigil should learn to manage their time and resources as well.  If they are supposed to have a game done in 5 years, don't start an eight year project.  They definitely bit off more than they could chew.

LOL is this guy for real ? has he played this game ?, does he have a super computer built by SGI ? does his family work for sigil and not want them to be fired lol ? This game is such a joke that the ppl playing the game will all lvl to lvl cap about the same week and then have nothing to do in a big world of bad models, and horrible 3d engine design, that lags and chunks when you enter other zones. lol I cant wait to see this game die because I too believe the hype but BETA TESTED it and watched the patch notes , etc, etc, and laughed my way to UNINSTALATION!

I don't think Vanguard should die , It does have alot of potential but there are a few things holding it back

    1: SOE involvement in anyway

2: Released a year to early

3: Aimed at the wrong market , sorry to all the so called Hardcores but your just to small a market  for a game to make money , they should have looked for a balance between Hardcore & Casual ..

4: Size Vs Quality , No matter what the movies say Size dosent matter ...

I wholeheartedly believe they have/will hit their targeted audience of old Everquest/UO players. Although its not an exact duplicate of what these people may want, its probably the closest they will come. The game will undoubtedly become somewhat successful within the 100k-200k subs range, which is perfectly standard for an MMO.

I don't believe it will ever get to the heights of WoW, Lineage 2, or even FF XI however.

i don't recall old eq being anything at all like old uo.  it improved on graphics, kinda.  it also introduced much *bad*  to the genre.

all i want is a game that is FUN.

is vanguard FUN , or just another boring-as-hell grindfest ?

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

The fact that they are now catering to the WOW easy-mode crowd tells me that they blew it. This game had potential but now it seems to be going down hill fast.

I signed up for the game this Friday and I'm already having quite a bit of fun. Character creation is neat, the quests are semi-interesting, I love the environment. It's a little slow on my machine but I like how the game looks and like I said, I'm having fun!

On the contrary, they have completely overlooked and ostracized Old Everquest players like myself.

    1. I really wish people would stop blaming SOE for the VG debacle.  All the problems are due to Sigil, not SOE.  Sigil is the developer.  SOE is the publisher.  If anything, had SOE not taken in VG, the game would have collapsed long ago due to lack of funds.  SOE is to be blamed for past MMOs, no argument there.  But in VGs case, all the blame falls on Brad and company.

    2.  Let me also add, had SOE not intervened, VG would have been launched at least 6 months prior to the end of January.  Considering the bugs the game has now, imagine the horror of VG going live 6 months ago.

    3. Brad said from the very beginning he was aiming at the "core" audience.  It's the rabid vanbois who spread the word that VG was hardcore, in effect turning off numerous potential customers.

    4. I'd rather phrase it as "Size doesn't matter unless it is at the expense of quality."

Vanguard is the best MMO I have played in a long long time. Since DAoC I have not had this much fun grinding or exploring, the level of content is staggering.  All of you rabid vanguard haters can stop posting in these forums, its making you look stupid. I mean comon if your not gona play the game stop posting about it, or keep trolling here for post scores if it makes you feel more "hardcore". I would much rather play the new hardcore MMO vanguard. I really believe that vanguard may have its bugs, but I have played many MMOs on release or near release and I am yet to find one that didnt need polish. I think vanguard is on the path to MMO greatness. But if it cant pull it off I do have WAR and Pirates of the Burning Sea to look foward to...
