-300 -

It's a great movie, you should all see it.

Prompt:

----------

Should it be made into an MMO? Why or why not.

EDIT: It's supposed to be I can't *wait*, not want... MMORPG.com needs poll editing abilities for 5 minutes after creation.

PLEASE don't waste another MMORPG project on an IP. an IP only restrict things. it only possibly influences graphics and storyline in a positive way, that is all. Nothing more.

I say no, though it has nothing to do with the movie.  It has to do with history.  The battle at Thermopylae lasted 3 days.  King Leonidas of Sparta blocked the Persians from coming down into Athens, well.. .block isnt exactly accurate... he delayed them, along with several thousand other greeks.  I won't go into a full history lesson here but after 2 days of standing their ground King Xerxes of Persia learned of an alternate path that was being held by 10,000 greeks from a neighboring city state.  Thinking that the persians were going to attack their home they fled the pass that they were supposed to hold.  Hearing of this Leonidas of Sparta knew that they were done for.  He ordered all of the athenians and others gathered to retreat while he would hold the pass with his spartans.  Aprroximately 1000 Thesbians refused to retreat and stood by the spartans' side.  Now, not taking anything away from the sacrifice made by Leonidas, his spartans and the Thesbians they were slaughtered.  Not one person survived and Leonidas' head was removed from his corpse and stuck on a stake.

Now, throughout the ancient era and on into today historians and dramaticists study re-enact, sing about and everythign else that happened there... But, it was 3 days.  You can not have an mmo based on 3 days.  Would an ancient greece mmo be cool?  Maybe, Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising looks to be a good one even though it is Rome not Greece.

How bad did they trash Frank Miller's vision in the movie? Frank Miller brought Batman , DareDevil and alot of heroes back from the brink of death (in terms of people buying the books). But every Frank Miller based book to movie has been terrible.

Even the scripts he has help on , got redone at the last minute to horrible movies.  Think I ll just stick with his books.

A MMOG based on ancient greek city-state warfare? Sure.

Based on the specific imagry of this movie? No.

300 is a graphic novel that was made into a movie, it would be a terrible mmorpg because it's cronicles the out come of a few battles.

Why would you want to?  300 has more of an appeal that the movie Troy had to middle-age women.  300 barely clad oily men fighting for thier gay lovers.  Doesn't exactly make me want to play it, or even watch it.

    Pretty homophobic are we?

Before you waste your time writing things like this i ask you to see things in context of the times. All of those men were married, yes they did have sex with other males; usually the younger males they themselves trained. However this was common practice during that time, and while most people will disapprove of this in modern times it was totally acceptable back then. The fact that they had sex with other males doesnt diminish their accomplishments whatsoever.

As far as their bodies, it was also common practice to oil oneself to show of pure clean skin. It was a normal thing back then. Times change and cultures adapt, deal with it. You need counceling.

On a game about it.....it would seem interesting since mythology would play a large part, and i certainly love greek mythologies. Though youd have to take factional warfare into the mix. Back then city-states were the norm not the exception.

Why the heck would you make a MMORPG out of this movie? As someone said, maybe make a MMORPG about the time era, but god NO not about the movie.

I would make for an interesting RPG, just watching all the armies battling at one choke point.

Where the heck in the movie were any of the Spartans(men) having sex with one another?  There was a crack about the Greek politicians  and thats it.  As far as being oiled up...its a freakin movie;)  It was for effect and to enhance muscle tone for the camera...grow up.

Erm, how many times can players reenact a historical battle that ends in their own slaughter again?

Now, an MMO set in the time period would be great, but specifically that movie/novel/battle?

That or he finds sex with men gross, a perfectly natural response.

Hell no it didn't, I'd not insult a single one of those warriors for being a bit gay with eachother, hell.. this may sound ignorant but I say this as a joke. My pops told me this "Never fight a gay man, after they kick your ass they'll <you know>". I'll take his advice.

As far as their bodies, it was also common practice to oil oneself to show of pure clean skin. It was a normal thing back then. Times change and cultures adapt, deal with it. You need counceling.

Also it was used so one could not be grappled properly, a very good tactic might I add. No only are you harder to grab, you look damn good doing it.

I too enjoy this ancient culture, and I've dismissed my modern thoughts because of this, it's a era of "wow".

Hell no, no mmo. A game perhaps, an mmo? It won't ever happen.

I can't imagine it would be a good game, unless you get a really great developer. Otherwise it'll just end up like LOTR(not the mmo) or something. And no, it will never become an MMO, I assure you.

  • LeojLeoj Member Posts: 98
Perhaps not if it took the name of the movie, but if there was an mmorpg that had the setting of ancient greece that would be pretty kick ass in my opinion.

Just saying, it sounds unsexy which is a real big drawing point in mmos with lack of content.

isn't that kinda what happens already in MMO's.  8 men taking out 500 some people,  or 30-50 taking down some elemental's stronghold.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Really? I thought Sin City was one of the best movies of 2005.

Frank Miller himself appears to have been happy with the film. Or why else would he have agreed to work on the script to Sin City 2?
