lol his talking like the audience are idiots, and that they are nursery school kids.

I bet he wishes he was an ORc, so he could beat the crap out of the customers.

I like the way he delivers his ideas.  Not everyone is going to understand MMO language.  I think the way he described the different races was hilarious.

Also, the way he described the goal of the game sounds a lot more intriguing than the current path for more MMORPGs.  WAR seems focused on character progression via continued play in PvP and PvE, not just grinding mobs over and over for minimal gains (reputation, tradeskills, honor)

Well if the game designers, programmers etc put as much enthusiasm into the game as he has given in the video,i HOPE it will tun out be extremley good.

I can't stand that guy, he's so 'overexcited' waving his hands around i'm not deaf ffs. Doesn he have a gf, if not he should get 1.

Doesn't take away that WAR could be a good game, but they should keep this guy 'behind the scenes'.

You maybe doesn't understand Paul Barnett is a big reason this game got such high anticapation. His entusiasm shows and every1 (usually) who watch his movies get caught by it. He's a real pro when it comes to driving up the anticapation of WAR. I don't think WAR would be so wellknown if it wasn't that Paul Barnett was the "front figure". Don't underestimate Paul Barnett.

Lol, I can't get enough of that guy.  He just seems so......un-professional....as far as P.R. goes.  It's not a carefully rehearsed speech coming from the PR writers.  This guy is winging it the whole way.  I love it.

    Great link by the way.

    The guy is great.

    And so is the movie.

That vid is almost famous - it's been cited as the reason people are interested in WAR so often that he should get a residual for eveyone who plays the game at release.

You can tell he is as excited about the game as most of the people who are going to be playing it are.  That, to me, is a good thing.  I also think he did a great job explaining things to the audience and treated them as if they havent spent the last 5 years playing MMOs.

Whoa what's your problem? It's his JOB and his HOBBY at the same time. And he's doing the best job ever at advertising the game at the same time.

No need to try to sound "macho" by asking if he has a gf or not, does that have anything to do with the game?

Yeah, this is probably the most famous WAR video not released through EA Mythic. There are a few others that are pretty much as good, too, as Paul always entertains.

As for the hate towards him...why? He is Mythic's most valuable employee, as he is drumming up a lot of anticipation for this game, and really draws people in with his charisma. Besides, he keeps things fun and very non-geeky (as much as possible), by using plain language with some jokes thrown in.

Have you ever seen someone like Brad McQuaid or Jeff Butler talk? I have, and it is painful.

I always love seeing Paul; he feels like someone I could just sit down and have a pint with and chat to like an old friend.

Excellent presentation. No pretty words, Just a developer saying "Ok, this our game, this is what we got, this is what its like" I love it.
  • cupertinocupertino Member Posts: 1,094
He dont mess about, hes stright up, "yes we do" "no we dont" none of this "we plan to" "in future we may" "we have not ruled out"... etc

You can tell hes passinate about the game and thats good to see.

    He's like a maniac

    its nice

"It's no good coming to our game if you are trying to grow weed, It's no good coming to our game if you want to make pants. It's only worth coming to our game if you want to burn things to the ground."
    -Paul Barnett, WAR is coming

This is the video that got me hooked. When Mythic announced that they've partnered with EA, I almost gave up on the game until I saw that video.

"You can't have an end" - That's where I put the EA thing behind me, at that exact moment. I've always thought MMO's should never have an ending, and since it's Warhammer's "most important thing" I was instantly looking forward to this game.

The very first Paul Barnett video I saw was the multi parter on Gamespy about Chaos.

Thats what got me interested in Warhammer online.

Anyone who does not get excited when he starts talking about "pudding from the sky", is some sort  undead thing.

And as far as his manliness goes, he has been known to talk to his two kids during his podcast and blogs. So i don't know if he has a girlfreind or wife, but he probably has two more kids than the heckler will ever have.

This guy and many of the others behind the scenes of  WAR are the reason why I have switched from being a fanboi of AOC to being one of WAR.

I love the passion these guys are brining to the table, they just make you want to like them and root for them in a way.

I really want to see WAR become a hit, not only because I need something to play, but because I really like the people behind it.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

You probably have never been to the North of England because thats how there personaltys are.Call it a British sense of humor and even though the UK and USA speak the same ligo(English)all be it  US  English is not quit true  English i think you really have to be English (uk)to understand Pauls sense of humor.

Look at  Warhammer lol all that madness was made up by Northern English men who are the core of Games Workshop and Paul comes from the same place in northern England.

His description of the races is the best part by far.

He does an excellent job of explaining the game in a way the both MMO vets, and those who've never played an MMO can understand.

He's passionate, animated, and his enthusiasm is very infectious.

As a whole, I think EA Mythic has done the best job of marketing and hyping WAR out of all the MMOs. No wild promise making. They've managed expectations very well by only really showing things once they're in the game and working. They've even come out and said, "If you don't like X, this isn't the game for you". They know who their target audience is, and they aren't trying to be all things to everyone, like that other game what's not doing so very well right now.

A lot of the other MMO's out there would do well to take a page or three from WARs marketing playbook.

The difference between Paul and other developers is, you believe him.  Watch just about every developer out there that is describing their product, and they'll say that they'll have cool new features and amazing effects.  But they don't seem enthusiastic about it.  A shy smile, maybe a little hand movement, but they simply aren't convincing.  Then there's Paul, who sounds like he has nothing in the world he'd rather be talking about.  Plus, he talks in a way so that both MMOers and newbies would understand.

    Seriously.
